Monomood - Randomize Yourself (ETUIDGTL 001)

Based on the stylistic content of the compilation, the boundaries of it can be outlined by tracks from BT Gate X-138, which turned out to be the most noisy and ambient, and Spacedrome, which turned out to be tech with shades of minimal. Also on the collection there are references to reggae music in the track from Khlev with melodic vocal inserts. In the rest of the compositions can clearly be seen the love of the authors to dub techno music, their identity and approach to producing, their depth and perspectives on contemporary sound. Enjoy listening!

Silent Season have carried the music of Submersion and Mon0 independently before, but now the dub techno producers have teamed up to take their sound onto new plains of exploration. The sound palette is consistent with both their music and that of the label, but the familiar dancefloor tropes have been jettisoned in favour of a more meditative end result, leading in with the achingly beautiful tundra excursion of "Beginning Of The End". From there the album drifts with glacial motion through a range of finely crafted soundscapes, wielding a world of rumbling, harmonious noise in the middle distance without ever losing that seductive dub techno ambience.

"I was diagnosed with cancer and started radiation therapy in New York, January 2018.  On the weekends, when I wasn’t getting radiation therapy, we would sometimes visit my wife’s grandmother in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.  We would sit in her tiny, ancient, rent-controlled apartment listening to her stories about coming to America and life in old New York.  She would show us black and white photos of people and places from her life and share fascinating stories.  This juxtaposition of nostalgia and the unbelievable pain and uncertainty of cancer created an unfamiliar emotion. I was listening to a lot of dub techno to calm myself after treatments and to help me sleep through the pain.  I was also watching series like ‘The Alienist’ and became interested in Victorian era photos and architecture depicting the life and struggle in New York.  I started to feel as if I lived a past life there.  All of these experiences and interests were combining in my head when it was suggested to me by a dear friend that I should make a dub techno album.  I channeled all of these feelings, experiences, and stories into one cathartic purge, the ashhen project."
