Down in lower Alabama, almost every weekend for the past two years, folks have been coming together for a music and social gathering on a plot of land called The Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm. The front porch of a modest country home under a 200-year old cedar tree serves as the stage, while patrons gather on lawn chairs and blankets around the property. One part house concert, one part Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble, The Frog Pond in its short existence has already played host to some of the country's finest songwriters, pickers, bluesman and troubadours ranging from Mary Gauthier to Alvin Youngblood Hart, Malcolm Holcombe to Randall Bramblett, Sergio Webb to George Porter, Jr. Local music enthusiast Cathy Steele who presents The Frog Pond explains, "the idea is to bring musicians and serious listeners together in an informal, but respectful setting where the focus is firmly on the music and the community built through artists and listeners." When not on the road, the beloved Alabama songwriter Grayson Capps can be found on The Frog Pond stage playing host to the musical proceedings.  It was through his frequent encounters with two other reoccurring performers Will Kimbrough and Sugarcane Jane that the band Willie Sugarcapps was born. At first it was simply songwriter-in-the-round and jam session-styled collaborations, but it soon grew to become something more. Joined by staple southern Alabama musicians Corky Hughes on guitar and Anthony Crawford on bass, there was an immediate chemistry between the five distinct musicians that led to a repertoire of songs demanding to be documented. They recruited Capps' longtime partner and Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Trina Shoemaker to record them, which resulted in the debut, self-titled album, Willie Sugarcapps. The collection gathers ten impeccably crafted songs imbued by easy flowing performances, angelic harmonies, gorgeous pedal steel and country Zen sentiment.  It's a comfort to know that music like this still happens for no other reason than purely the sake of music itself.
