As an instrumental music composer, I have been active since 1983 and have created works in a diverse range of genres, including jazz, classical, bossa nova, ballade, new tango, contemporary, and microtonal styles. My compositions have been performed and recorded by various ensembles and soloists, both nationally and internationally. I have also received several commissions to create new works for specific occasions or events. In addition to composing, I have also worked as a music arranger, transcriber, and orchestrator, collaborating with other composers and musicians to bring their works to life. Throughout my career, I have constantly sought to expand my knowledge and skills, participating in workshops, seminars, and masterclasses on various musical topics.

Marissa Johnson is a busy collaborator, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has appeared on dozens of recordings over the last decade. She has been touring and releasing records with various bands since her debut album under the moniker Weathered Pines, THE SKY BETWEEN THE BUILDINGS (2010). 

While she has travelled throughout Europe and North America as a member of No Kids, Dizzy Eyes and The Flintettes, a recent move from Vancouver, BC to a rural community has afforded her the opportunity to turn her efforts inward. 

With her latest album, COLLECTOR, Johnson has created warm and lush pop melodies and intricate vocal lines that contribute to a lavish musical landscape. Foregoing the anonymity of the Weathered Pines moniker, Johnson has stepped out of the shadow of her side projects with focused intention. 

In between recording and live shows, Johnson has participated in a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts, contributed to several projects in collaboration with Nicholas Krgovich, and worked with Detroit producer, Matthew Smith (Outrageous Cherry, Rodriguez, Dennis Coffey, Kim Fowley). She is currently preparing for the release of COLLECTOR in 2016.
