I’ve Found What I’m Looking For 9-19-18

This one is from 2003. In my last year of film school my friend Dustin and I starting collaborating on scores for student projects. It was a great way for both of us to explore different genres that we typically wouldn’t write or perform. 

He was in a band called Everything Was Perfect and he had a small recording studio in his basement, so it was a great setup for experimenting and just spending weekends recording whatever we felt like. 

I forget exactly how it started, but at some point we decided to move away from soundtracks and to start an actual rock band called Dhorque (pronounced Dork but spelt Dhorque for some reason that we found hilarious). 

I had a few acoustic demos that I thought might work as Dhorque songs and Neighbourhood Hero was one of two “rock songs” that we recorded together. 

Dustin was good friends with Dallas Green and while we were recording this song he came over and hung out. We showed him the song and because he’s a nice guy he said something really positive and supportive like “cool song” or “I like it”. Then he picked up an acoustic guitar and starting playing some songs that he was going to record for his first City and Colour album and I remember being immediately struck with awe and envy. Like “Oh, this is what an actual musical genius sounds like. I’ll see myself out then.” 

Not that anyone should compare his or her talents to someone like Dallas Green. He’s a superstar for a reason. But in that moment, with all my insecurities and naivety, it was very hard not to quickly see where I stood on the talent scale.  

Anyways – I still think this is a “cool song” recorded by two dorks who had no idea what they were going to do with a film diploma – but they at least knew they wanted to make music while they figured it out.

I’ll also upload the original acoustic demo so you can listen to that one too.

Some days ago I was listening to some of my old pieces and I found this, 'Gaia At Night', a composition that I did in 2007, only with soundfonts and when I was learning how to use FL Studio.
It don´t have a very good sound, and it´s not properly quantized but I think that it is not bad at all.
This song is a part of a collective project that we, a spanish composers group, made in 2007 (take a look to my friend Roger Subirana´s music @soundcloud.com/roger-subirana !).
