Bio:
11:11 is a Singer, Songwriter and Music Producer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His melodic voice and signature R&B/Trap style is easily recognizable through his music, but he wasn’t always the singer we know him as currently. The artist’s career in music started off producing instrumentals in the modest studio at the Lawrence Heights Community Centre in “Jungle,” the iconic neighborhood in the west end of Toronto.

The Underground is an online Podcast Series by artist, for artists. 
For this show we seek out and interview Singers, painters, Dancers, experts or not, who are undiscovered or belong to a small niche community. People who make art for the sake of making art and are willing to talk about how they’ve been impacted and what drives them to do what they do.

TRAVLR (formerly Something Mutual) is currently made up of Malachi Mason and Carter Banks, two friends from Dallas, Texas. The two met eight years ago when Malachi was running a recording studio and Carter was working on a solo project and looking to record a few songs. Referred to Malachi by mutual friends, Carter proceeded to call and set up a few sessions, and the two clicked instantly. 

Though both in different bands at the time, and lacking time to write together, Carter continued to record material with Malachi; as their musical styles complimented each other’s very well. 

After the split of both of their projects in 2010, Malachi took a hiatus from music and went into the business world while Carter continued on as a solo artist and attended college. 

After a lot of down time, in the summer of 2013, Malachi proposed the idea of covering a few songs with hopes of finding a new and more mature sound. They got together and recorded their version of “Like or Like Like” by Miniature Tigers, in Carter’s small second story room. The cover turned out exceptionally well, and after gaining almost 50,000 plays on the web, they decided to give this new sound a shot. That ‘shot’ was what is now called Something Mutual. 

Motivated from the success of their cover, they went on to record and release an EP titled “Soundcheck” which included five songs they roughly recorded in Carter’s garage. Incredibly, with hardly any audio equipment, they were able to get the EP sounding good enough to release in early 2014. 

After continued positive feedback and a rapidly growing fan base, they decided to take it up a notch and further their experiment by recording a full-length album in early 2015. Their recent release is self-titled 6-song album that includes a variety of different sounds and genres. As they aim specifically to appeal to as many audiences as they can, Something Mutual continues to develop a reputation for their unique sound and refusal to be genre-specific. Something Mutual has managed to incorporate pop, hip-hop, funk, rock, jazz, acoustic, electro and pop-punk styles into their music. 

Though they just released a full-length not even a year after their first EP, the duo has big plans for the future, and has already begun writing for yet another release with what they predict will be an even better and more unique sound featuring the use of a microkorgs, vocoders and more elaborate synthesizers. 

Things will only get better for Something Mutual, as they promise to release only the catchiest high-quality music in the future.
