That’s what she told me when the meteor shower was announced. We both wanted to see it, we needed to see it. We made a pact: rest before midnight, wake up when the world starts falling, and drive until the city lights couldn't find us.
But intimacy has a way of bending time. Once we locked into that hold, the outside world stopped existing. The tiredness that arrived wasn’t just physical; it was intoxicating. It was a heavy, velvet weight that made the idea of a drive feel like a journey to another planet.
When the alarms finally blared at 11:30PM, we arose in that hazy, half-conscious state where sentences don't quite form. We looked at each other and knew. We knew the drive was beyond our grasp. We knew the stars were above the roof anyway. And we knew that no matter where we were, as long as we had each other, we had the world.
"In My Arms" is the sonic representation of that gravity. It’s the sound of choosing the person over the spectacle. It’s the realization that while everyone else is looking up at the sky, the most beautiful thing in the universe is right here, breathing next to you.
