IT'S FINALLY HERE! After months of fine-tuning and polish, my personal take on Isaac's soundtrack has been released to the public.

This theme was initially a way to set the tone of the project; it was one of the first tracks made for it. I wanted to capture a facet of how I wanted it to sound, taking influence from other soundtracks while also doing something original in its own right.

INNER SANCTUM

Consciousness Wading (Title Theme Light)

Isaac is a game about cycles, so I wanted to give this track a sort of underlying feeling of melancholy, a loss of innocence, and despair. Ultimately, I ended up using a few of its motifs in other tracks. Above all else though, I wanted to give it a drive, a feeling of pushing forwards despite the odds. Nothing sucks more than being sent back to the drawing board, but you gotta pull through.

The Cycle Reborn (Basement)

Sometimes there's nothing stranger than waking up in the dead of the morning to have your head full of fog; your senses not all quite there yet. The Cellar is an infamously difficult starting area, and it usually marks a difficulty spike in the game that steers many players off from seeing the game through to the end. It's a wake-up call, and one that your senses will have to adjust to, if you want to brave the looming horrors that await further below.

Your Mind Needs Tuning (Cellar)

Everything's in disarray, yet you push forward.

This track was one of my personal favorites to make; I wanted to give it a sort of "hardened warrior" energy; the spaghetti western vibe from Repentance's Downpour theme retrofitted to a small child roleplaying as a cowboy as everything crumbles around him. 

Another thing with this track is that I wanted it to sound damaged; some of the synths and rhythmic beeping made to emulate the sound of a fire alarm. The song was also made to be a bit crunchy, as if the speakers playing them were fire-damaged themselves.

Fire Under The Floorboards (Burning Basement)

The Keepers welcome you in with open arms. Rest your weary soul, and pray that the sin of Greed doesn't overtake you. 

Laid-back and somewhat acoustic, this track was made to represent a sort of "resting spot" for the player.

Flicker Of Innocence (Shop)

The hardest thing about this track was trying to decide how I wanted it to sound. What did the "Depths" mean to me? I wanted to instill a sense of foreboding, a sense of danger, and a sense of impending doom. Given how it's the penultimate level before your first encounter with Mom, I suppose that's rather fitting.
