Staying true to their creed that it’s not big names but the music that matters, this Saturday 24th of August the residents will be joined by the young face but now familiar figure of Telford. Fresh and local, we’re keeping it in the Subculture family.

In 2001, while his friends were still out playing football and getting excited about girls (and possibly boys), a fourteen year old called Telford, was buying House records and probably being picked on for being a nerd and calling himself by his surname.

The mid noughties saw this young man all grown up and firmly ensconced in the Sub Club but behind the bar rather than behind the decks. However post-pint pulling and with ready access to bend the ears of the leading lights of House, an opportunity to play records in a real club wasn’t slow in presenting itself.

Now still only 27, he is already an accomplished Subculture resident, playing alongside Jeff Mills, Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, Âme et al. and of course Harri & Domenic. From sets at Sonar in Barcelona to epic eight hour sets in Berlin’s Katerholzig his name is a welcome addition to line ups at underground clubs throughout Europe and the UK.

Reluctant to speak about himself, he prefers to let his imaginative sets do the talking. Concentrating on creating a feeling and building a groove, his diverse use of house and techno can draw even the most recalcitrant feet onto the dance floor. Singularly minded, committed to his craft and almost puritanical in his purpose, he concentrates solely on being a DJ in the truest sense. Perceptive of his audience, brave, innovative and not afraid to take a risk, he plays with the single aim of taking the night somewhere special.

A DJ who plays music to make people dance. What could be more wonderful than that?

He has recorded this Subculture Mix as a snapshot of what to expect this Saturday. After listening back, it’s hard to pick out a favourite track with so many excellent examples of his musical style.

We are sure this mix will become an instant favourite. Enjoy….

Telford Subculture August Mix

Last month on the 13th of October, we invited house music hero & all round good guy Derrick Carter to bring his 'Derrick Does Disco' party to the Sub Club helping to celebrate GLASGAY! 20th Anniversary.

The source of many a man-crush (particularly from our local DJ geeks and record freaks) our sexy affair with Derrick has spanned a good couple of decades. Perhaps it’s his desirable physique, that intense beaded brow around 2am or his disarmingly charming manliness from the moment we met him off the plane.

Either way we’re always hot for him and so was everyone in the crowd who joined us as we got down and dirty in a darkened room and showed each other some serious loving, with no strings attached till 3am.

With Derrick in control for the full four hours we had to get the roadblocks out. Here is an hour of this amazing set specially picked out by the one man block party himself.

With most DJ’s barely getting their teeth in to 2014 yet, Rotterdam based composer and producer Eelke Kleijn is already back teasing more huge tracks. Set for release on Feb. 24 on Eskimo Recordings are two brand new originals. ‘Lovely Sweet Divine’ is a slice of space disco heaven. This otherworldly tune is drenched in expansive reverb, disco rhythms and infectious arpeggiated basslines.

Typically brooding with an uplifting inflection, 'A Tale Of Two Lovers' is Eelke at the top of his game – only what we have come to expect from recent months. Combining fluid violins, hang drums and his typical bass rumble it’s a track from someone so adept at production they have the confidence and freedom to play around with styles in the 7-minute runtime.

Another fresh blood member of Glasgow's new breed of music makers who have grown up surrounded by the underground sounds of Glasgow and gone on to make them their own. Telford is no stranger to a Subculture set but each outing demands he brings even more of his best to the game.

As a special treat here's a teaser of what to expect on Saturday (18/1/14). Back in August last year Harri, Domenic and Telford went to back to back to back for five solid hours hours. This live recording from the Sub Club, covers the last hour and a half, where our three finest residents took us through till 4am on a summer Sunday morning...

We’ve said it before, but more so than before the role of the resident DJ seems to be getting a lot of media attention of late. Obviously having someone on hand to properly prepare, sculpt, rescue, drive and elate a crowd is so many good things all at once. They’re vital and pivotal and a whole heap of other words that end in al so it says a lot that we’re here to introduce Krysko, a resident at Manchester’s Warehouse Project. Well versed in his field having held residencies at The Redlight and Tribal Sessions at Sankeys Soap, Tribal Gathering and now The Warehouse Project it would appear that his own beliefs match up with ours with him stating just yesterday that “residents should be trusted to be able to do all of the jobs during a night".

Preparing to demonstrate his DJ capacities later this month (18th September) when he ventures south from his WHP hub to our Room Two, we asked him a few probing questions over email so we could officially introduce him and he also recorded an exclusive new mix to give us a insight into how he'll be setting the pace for B.Traits and Jimmy Edgar a week Friday.

Der Song „Aerials“ von System of a Down hat @sarkis_mikael dazu inspiriert, einen neuen Track aufzunehmen: „System of a Down ist eine meiner Lieblingsbands aller Zeiten.
