Detta stycke började, likt många av mina stycken, som ett försök att parafrasera en annan tonsättares stil. Denna gång blev det Hernyk Goreckis stråkkvartetter som inspirerade. Det går lätt att höra influenserna om man känner till förlagorna, men det är självklart mycket av mig i stycket med. Detta är även mitt första (post-)minimalistiska stycke. En genre som jag uppskattar.   

Styckets titel kom sent. Den är inspirerad av musiken och inte tvärt om, som det ofta är i mitt skapande. Långa uppbyggnader och långa linjer bryts av av korta intensiva fragment, som en storm. Detta upprepas, men med mer av allt. Stycket avslutas med bräckliga flageolettklanger, som om en kommit undan stormarna, men endast nästintill levande. Och utan allt för stor optimism.


Segla In I Evigheten - Stråkkvintett nr 1 // Sail Into Eternity - String Quintet nr 1

Co-winner of the inaugural Stephen R. Gerber Prize in 2017, from League of Composers ISCM, NYC (from 250+ anonymous submissions), DĔPO FLUX is a concerto grosso for mixed quintet and chamber orchestra. It was commissioned by the Foot in the Door ensemble at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School and conceived as a featured work for the ensemble’s performances at the 2015 Dark Music Days Festival held at Harpa in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The title is derived from terms utilized in aerosol physics: deposition being the process by which aerosol dust particles, whether wet or dry, collect or deposit themselves on solid surfaces, and flux being the flow of a physical property in space.

As a musical construction DĔPO FLUX is a sonic realization of single tones or sounds utilized as if they were dust particles moving through space while coalescing and depositing over time. The work is informed by an intimate transcendental action: poetic release of a handful of ashes from a departed loved one into a natural body of water; watching them swirl and mingle and glide and sparkle, reflecting the radiance of the sun as they disperse in an ecstatic dance of return into the embrace of Mother Earth.

Cheap Thrills 3rd Improvisation on an idea by Bennie Maupin

Cheap Thrills komponerades närmast som en improvisation över en liten melodisk vändning: tre toner från Bennie Maupins underbara album "The Jewel in the Lotus". Titeln är fylld av personliga allusioner - på musiker, tonsättare, arbetsmetoder, attityder…

Liten teknisk historik: Ett av de första svenska verken, kanske det allra första, som använde datorstyrd live-elektronik. Istället för att spela med klicktrack till en fixerad tapestämma, användes tre synthesizers kontrollerade av dator och midiklaviatur när KammarensembleN uruppförde verket 1993. Sju år senare ersattes syntarna av 26 överlappande ljudfiler och en Max-patch. 2004 gjordes en Pure Data patch för danska DIEM-ensemblen och 2007 spelade San Francisco Contemporary Music Players med den MaxMSP-patch som fortfarande används. När verket framfördes 2018 av elever på Södra Latin under Jan Risbergs ledning, var även midi-klaviaturen borta, ersatt av en fotpedal som dirigenten själv hanterade.

Beställt av Samtida Musik, uruppfört av KammarensembleN under ledning av B Tommy Andersson 1993. Cheap Thrills finns på Henrik Strindbergs cd "Within Trees".

Henrik Strindberg: Cheap Thrills

This is "Time Of My Life," the third full-length album of compositions by Adrian Knight, released digitally worldwide on October 31, 2011. The tracks were written, performed and recorded in 2007-2009 in Stockholm, Sweden. The record is bookended by two long piano pieces, the first one, "Abide With Me," is a take on the classic hymn, and the second one, "Liebeslied September 29 2008," is a half hour long piece originally written as a birthday gift. These works were born out of the encounter with a very special piano in a studio at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. "Border Fence" (electric guitar and loop sampler) was recorded live in November 2007 in an apartment in Gärdet, Stockholm. "Pink Pamphlet 2" stems from early 2009 and consists entirely of voice loops.

Moreover, these works are linked to each other by the particular times and places they were recorded, as well as their "private" nature (none of these tracks, with the exception of "Pink Pamphlet 2," were considered for release).
