If you enjoy upbeat music that still feels dreamy and gentle, give this album a try. It’s built for listeners who like a balance of groove, nostalgia, and soft emotional energy.

This album blends post‑disco, fusion jazz, and warm vintage synths, with a splash of the dreamy haze found in slushwave. When you hit play, you’re meant to feel a mix of happiness and nostalgia - like thinking about someone you love and remembering the adventures you’ve shared. The sound is dense and layered, warm and echo‑y, with a groove that lets you either sit back and drift or move your body a little.

You’ll hear soft, blended vocals that act more like another instrument than a spotlight. They show up to guide the melody and add emotion, keeping the mood romantic, affectionate, and gently uplifting. The drums are punchy with a roomy, echo‑y snare, and while the tracks aren’t built like typical dance songs, they still carry a smooth, syncopated groove. The basslines stay smooth, and the main textures come from synth‑string chords, synth leads, piano, guitar, bells, and those light, emotional vocal moments.

The whole project leans into feel‑good affection - dreamy, positive, and warm. It’s for listeners who love post‑disco, funk, vaporwave, slushwave, or anything that mixes retro grooves with atmospheric, modern haze. It works outside on a sunny day, but it also fits late‑night ambience when you want something upbeat yet dreamy.



With Our Shuffling Legs

Produced by Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Cave Singers) at The Hive in Vancouver, Oh Fortune carries collaborations from many esteemed improvisational and experimental musicians including Eyvind Kang (Beck, Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot, John Zorn), Jesse Zubot (Nels Cline, Mats Gustafsson), Gord Grdina (Gary Peacock, Paul Motian), Kenton Loewen (Mats Gustafsson, Jerry Granelli), JP Carter (Fond Of Tigers, Inhabitants) and Peggy Lee (Wayne Horvitz, Veda Hille).

Currents of mortality, isolation, and desperation run through the album, and yet its title comes from a reflection of a ticker-tape parade celebrating the return of Gertrude Ederle to the United States in 1926. For a heartbeat, she was the country’s biggest celebrity. She had just become the first woman to swim the English Channel, and simultaneously the new world-record holder (previously held by a man).

There exists in Oh Fortune this chaos of juxtaposition. It could be taken as a sad or dark album, yet musically it kicks with more ferocity and tenacity than people may expect from Mangan. It debates melancholy while it anticipates incredible moments of glory and victory. It’s not sad, it’s simply honest.
