Time

Renaître which means rebirth in French is an experimental track that explores rock music from the past and present. As this track is exploratory in nature and combines a lot of elements from various genres of rock and dance music, the video as well follows a space explorer's quest for new lands. The various crescendos and decrescendos signify the happiness and sadness one feels when they embark on an adventure. I believe that, both are essential for a satisfying journey.

The last minute and a half sees an increase in intensity that signifies that all the effort, self-belief, persistence and never-say-attitude is close to paying off. The explorer finally reaches his destination, the painter gets the perfect muse, the scientist makes a path changing discovery or the musician finds that elusive, never-before heard sound they were looking for.

Notes: In George Orwell's "1984" Winston Smith, the protagonist, attends the daily "two minutes hate" a gathering where the crowd shouts at a screen depicting the government's endless war against the heretical people of East Asia... In one scene a plane dive-bombs a group of refugees, and shoots down a woman holding her infant child... Orwell's scene was the inspiration for "From On High," which refers to the very real plight of Syrian refugees trying to get into Europe...

Immigration is a human right... Some day because of climate change you might have to immigrate, too.  Love your fellow humans!

I Want You

Sometimes you just dispense with the niceties and make a glorious noise. Such is the case with Laxá's "Better Angels". 

Recorded in a derelict swimming pool off Sloat, the sonics were perfect. Swirling guitars, distant drums and distorted keyboards  captured the dereliction. The crumbling graffitied concrete walls echoed to the sound of a band both of, and not of, their time. The low buzz throughout the track is the sound of sampled traffic savagely distorted.

As darkness fell, a few curious passers by stopped to listen, witnesses to a singular happening in place and time.
