Welcome back to a long awaited  Live from SPEED instalment of our mix series. For this next edition, we take you back to 24th February 2023, where SPEED teamed up with local promoter crew to Present Julia Govor. Here is Julia's recording from that special event.

A superstar techno producer with her own innovative and unique sounds, Julia Govor is the founder and curator of record label JUJUKA, as well as the co-founder of Radial. Currently based in New York, Julia has recently been featured on Bandcamp Daily as a best new Music producer. 

With original productions that the media has described as Rare, Beguiling and Mind filling, teamed with her dense, vivid DJ sets, Julia is enthusiastic and energetic with a charismatic fatal charm. Govor knows how to move and make others feel and engage.

Amidst lockdowns and home isolations, we at HER 他 really wanted to keep the party alive (and responsible) while supporting and promoting great artists from around the world. As a result, we have today launched HER 他 Transmission. HER 他 Transmission will be a series of Mixtapes and Live recordings released weekly by artists who we love and inspire us.  

We are excited today to share with you the very first guest mix of our series, A powerful and emotion mixtape by DJ, producer and trans-LGBTQIA + activist Miriam Alegria, better known as @Wantonwitch.   Wanton Witch was born and raised in a small town in Borneo in the east of Malaysia. At the age of 19, she moved to Bangkok to begin her journey in the music world. Since arriving in Bangkok she has made waves in the local and international electronic music scene with her highly emotional, story-telling approach to sound and performance. Wonton Witch is also the co-founder of the queer dedicated Bangkok collective ‘Non Non Non’ and hardcore rave project ‘ELED’.   We met Wonton witch on an Asian tour in Bangkok where her collective, Non Non Non helped us in putting on what was said to be Bangkok's very first All-Female/ LGBTQIA + techno event. We were blown away by her DJ set, compassion and dedication to her art and what she believes in. 

We are very grateful to be able to launch our series with such a strong and upcoming artist.

Here in Melbourne, the Goth Weather is finally upon us and we still cannot legally rave. Today, however, to accommodate for this we bring you the third installment of our HER TRANSMISSIONS series. 

Transmission #3 is an energetic and strong mix from Indonesian artist, DJ, and fashion designer, Itta S.Mulia, AKA- MIXXIT. Hailing from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, MIXXIT has been DJing since 2018 and combines multiple genres and scenes to create her fun, high-energy DJ mixes. A single mix can see crosses between Electronic, techno, punk, metal, experimental music as well as Dangdut Koplo and other traditional forms of Indonesian/ Java music. 

We got to spend some time with Mixxit before the lockdowns on her Australian tour and were really moved by hearing her own story of how she has been working to create safe space for women in Yogyakarta by hosting events and having parties in her studio.

Our 10th transmission again takes us back to our Melbourne Launch party at the very very sadly missed Crazy Arms and was recorded by Melbourne-based Taiwanese DJ, Kaytseng. Somehow through all the sweat and vibes this mix was recovered and we are able to share the original recording with you for Her Transmission 010.

Kaytseng was born in Taiwan but now resides in Melbourne and is a regular on the Melbourne DJ circuit with her alternation between jumpy and jagged electro, Heavy pounding techno and aggressive EBM. Kaytseng has defied convention at every turn and this Live recording is proof of that. Big things!!!

HER 他 Transmission 035: Zaftig @zzaftig

One thing we always set out to do within the Transmission mix series was highlight an equal number of local and international artists. The discovery of amazing and talented musicians from around the world is a special thing, as is that same discovery of artists within your local community. For the 35th Transmission mix we again find ourselves back in Melbourne to share with you this mix from Zaftig. 

Originally from LA, Zaftig is a DJ, Producer and Singer with a focus on cinematic sound. Combining a mix of Techno, Electro-clash, Dark Italo, New beat and Synthwave, Zaftig creates multilayered soundscapes to invoke the dualities of the dark and the playful. When asked about her mix for the HER Transmission series, Zaftig said - 
“This mix was inspired by Kenopsia- the eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that’s usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet. On a particularly existential day during lockdown I went on a walk to the city to try and get some inspiration for life; I ended up at Myer Music Bowl. With it completely empty it was a beautiful duality of emotion and perfect example of Kenopsia. I was able to stand on the stage and started to visualize a live gig with hundreds of sweaty bodies interacting with glee. Patrick Cowley came on my playlist and it was all disco good times in my mind from then on. The tracks I selected are meant to express the tension and release of lockdown- melancholic electro, dark italo and classic Hi-NRG funk with vocals expressing the desires and emotions of this liminal space. I hope you enjoy the soundscapes, thanks for listening!”
