Cameo Blush is the project of London-based producer John Dunk, producing experimental dance music that draws on a mix of UK sounds and beyond. The producer combines distant elements of the dance music sphere, all the while retaining a signature sound and style of production full of unexpected twists and turns.
	
	Named one of Mixmag’s Top 25 Artists to Watch in 2022, his latest single ‘Template’ was released on 30th September via concept label unknown - untitled. The single was described by Resident Advisor as “instantly memorable and further establishing the day-glo sound Cameo Blush has already impressed us with”.
	
	Alongside a string of mixes - including for Dummy and the Feel My Bicep mixtape series - the producer has taken his live show to revered clubs such as Corsica Studios, Phonox and e1. Previous releases include EPs on Ross From Friends' Scarlet Tiger imprint, Seb Wildblood’s all my thoughts and Nick Höppner’s Touch From A Distance, as well as remixes for Prospa and Aleksandir.

Turkish producer and DJ based in London, Alex Lawrence, aka Aleksandir, appeared on the radar in 2018 with 'Yamaha', a harmonious blend of traditional percussion and modern house. His mastery of melody, acquired at the conservatory, quickly propelled him onto the international scene, with notable performances such as at the Dour Festival last year and more broadly in various clubs around the world. He signs our 234th mix.

Marking the 16th release on the label since its inception in 2023, the connection between Old Man Crance and the label started via a DM with her demos and blossomed into a collaborative partnership including a spontaneous back-to-back with Beatrice M. at Bassmaessage last year. The ‘Hepp’ EP follows shortly on from Old Man Crane’s first appearance on Bait via the One Hundred and Fifty Steps compilation series and begins an exciting chapter for the emerging artist.

Old Man Crane 'Hepp' EP (OUT NOW)

Impérieux debuts on Hessle Audio with the Fena EP, an immersive collection of 4 tracks defined by his unpredictable and varied sonic palette. Drawing on a heritage that threads through Turkey, Greece and his home city of Kırcaali in Bulgaria, Alper Durmush channels a turbulent year in which six months of creative stillness ignited unexpectedly into an explosive burst of musical ideas.

"Fena is a word my Mum used to call me as a kid" recounts Durmush on the title track. "The name comes from Turkish, but with a Balkan twist, it means a mischievous rascal - wild, unpredictable, a bit too much at times". This restless energy is perfectly captured with jittering interferance and snarling sawtooth synths bursting through the mix, threatening to overwhelm the speakers and sending sound engineers running for cover. 'Sickomode' encapsulates the push-pull emotional sensibility of the EP, with confidence and meloncholy rotating, shifting, and giving way to each other.

'Saat' is an attempt to recreate a track based solely on a surreal description, relayed by a veteran of the rave scene in his home town - "This guy told me about a festival in the woods back in the early 2000s, where someone played a track with dogs barking in the break - the volume rising constantly." The initial dissonance of its detuned lead releases into a euphoric rush of melody, a combination which is becoming something of a producer trademark. The EP closes with the quiet, unwavering warmth of 'Cawuso', a nickname for a person that the artist met last year. "This very special person showered me with kindness and purity. It almost felt unreal, so I decided to dedicate this track to them."

Impérieux - Fena EP [Snippets]

The second installment in Darwin’s curated mixes for Rhythmic Culture comes from UK duo Dual Monitor. Their boundary-pushing productions have earned them the moniker “The UK Genre Alchemists” from Rinse FM. This open-format approach to music carries through to their vibrant, kaleidoscopic DJ sets—no two ever the same. The duo deftly weaves together twisted, low-slung UK bass, skittering IDM, dancefloor-shaking tech-bow, and zoned-out dub and jungle.

Darwin: "The story of Dual Monitor is actually a really cute one. Jake Hodge sent me a track they made "Step Pattern" because he was so blown away by the production and said "You need to sign this," and I did instantly not even listening to it a second time! Fliss and Zebb are hands down some of the most talented up-and-coming producers I’ve come across in a while. The speed at which they’re cranking out tunes and dubs, and the range in their sound, is unreal. On top of that, they’re two of the loveliest people to hang with. So happy to have them as part of the SPE:C family."
