Hessle Audio is proud to present the first collaborations between longtime friend Joy O and saxophonist Ben Vince. Introduced to each other by Jon Rust, the two tracks are a result of studio sessions together as well as manipulation of Ben’s existing recordings. Both tracks explore the tonal, textural and rhythmic possibilities of Ben's playing within a focused dancefloor framework. Ben Vince will be releasing a solo LP with Where To Now? In late May, featuring collaborations with Micachu and percussionist Rupert Clervaux.

I was introduced to Abi at the end of 2010 through a mutual friend - Johnny Dub who co-runs the excellent Manchester night hoya:hoya. Instantly I was blown away by her voice
I sent her some stuff that was on a slightly different tip to my usual beats. She dug it, sent it back - worked on it some more, Tobyjug was born and i'm glad to say it has been the start of a long working relationship and friendship.
 
We worked together a lot last year on her solo material and the year culminated in Abi flying to Berlin to work with Benjamin Damage and I on our recent album They!Live.

Almost two years after the success of The Tony Allen Experiments and a few months after the release of the 7” single Amore, Nu Guinea return with a new LP published by their newborn label NG Records. Nuova Napoli is the result of an extensive musical research that became a historical investigation of the sound that shaped Napoli during the ‘70s and ‘80s, starting from the cross-pollination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, african rhythms) which forms Nu Guinea’s DNA.

*Lyrics of “Je Vulesse” are an extract of the poem “Je vulesse truvà pace” from the poet Eduardo De Filippo.

The Napoli formed, Berlin-based duo Nu Guinea creates sounds that are influenced from the idea of an exotic, far distanced place. By combining various music styles that are related to dancefloor music in its purest sense, they create a distinct sound, touching genre routes that go from obscure disco to world-ethno music.

Better Listen Records is a label that needs no introduction, straight out of Washington DC, BLR has put out some breath-taking music from some of the biggest names in house and disco with Cody Currie, Ethyène and Ari Bald to name a few. With a motto to “press remarkable grooves” they certainly exceed this with each and every release, and have come a long way since establishing in 2016 no thanks to some great work from Martín Miguel.

The first track comes from the magical and magnificent Folamour with ‘Oneness’ a beautiful piece of art in which we have the pleasure to premiere for you today. The most consistent artist in his field Folamour never fails to amaze with his music which to quote his label is, ‘’For Heaven Use Only’’. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe how good the Frenchman actually is and this track follows suit. Sweet guitars, addictive piano melodies and jazz-infused goodness with this one, things Folamour is well-known for. A true feel good banger that will have you singing along and dancing all day and all night. Let’s face it Better Listen and Folamour was always going to end well and we cannot wait to grab a copy of this 12”. Out on april 20th via Juno!

Jon Dixon, member of Underground Resistance’s live band Timeline, pays tribute to legendary Detroit jazz trumpeter Marcus Belgrave.
