We are thrilled to bring you Oznerol Era by Lorenzo Buhne, out on NocturnalSol, a division of Heyday Media Group, as part of our new Musings series. The album is comprised of a group of demos and recordings written, arranged, remastered and recorded by Buhne between 1984 and 1991 during his tenure as the bassist for Los Angeles band’s The Dickies and Fear.

Oznerol Era is the inaugural release on NocturnalSol's Musings series. Musings was created to showcase previously unheard recordings, demos, song sketches, rough mixes, live recordings, and more. Whatever they are, wherever they come from, Musings celebrates these sparks of creativity that are closest to that space that encompasses creative spirit.

The Oznerol Era is a collection of songs from three separate events in my life.

First up are songs from the Oznerol E.P. which was released in 1985 on the ‘Made in Space’ label. It was well received by US College radio, which was quite a thrill.

The second batch which are most of the songs contained here are from a rehearsal/recording which occurred in 1989, with Robert Lansing (aka Enoch Hain) on guitar and Jerry Angel on drums. They were going to be part of an Oznerol follow up release that never happened.

And third is, ’She Likes it!’, a song demoed on my own on the trusty-crusty 4 track Tascam cassette deck, at my place in El Sereno in 1991.

I had actually forgotten about these gems and if it were not for Renee at NocturnalSol for nudging me all of these years to put them out, it wouldn’t have happened.

It is music to be in the mood for so... whenever you feel like letting your hair down or rebelling, this will help you get there

When I read the ‘Songs of Innocence - Introduction’ poem by ‘William Blake, I loved it! It is profound.

I turned the page to see what’s next and... ‘The Shepherd’ transported me back to my childhood in Naples.

Every year we’d have the opportunity to see and hear the ’Zampognari’ musicians, who were really only shepherds. They would come to our neighbourhood and play for donations at Christmas time.

With unkempt outfits, a loud beauty and wailing sounds, they would cast spells, fantasies and emotions on us… and Blake’s words flow in and out time. (Lorenzo Buhne | Nov 2023)

'Stay' from forthcoming album "Aguas de Diamontas".......coming our way 2025!!

Stay is a particularly vulnerable song in my repertoire, specifically because it only sports a 'refrain' as opposed to a standard chorus, and it's pleading the listener - and/or the inspiration of the song in some cases - to just Stay. The vocals might be my most subdued and subtle to date, adding to this overarching theme. Let's work it out, let's get physical if we need to, let's talk literature or baseball if we need to; or whatever Stay might mean to you.

This song was written at a time in my life when I felt particularly lonely from a romantic perspective, and often wondered why some lovers would, or more often, wouldn't Stay. It does have a double meaning I've realized in the 10+ years since I wrote the song. The band the tune was originally written to be performed by was my primary project at the time called Cave Country and we were on the ropes at that time. I certainly included some references to my pleading with the band to 'stay' to stick with it - and come out stronger on the other side. I promoted embracing and overcoming our differences. As you can tell, they didn't stay in the end, which just proves in life, as with inertia, once things are off and moving - hard to slow them down.

I love the 'doo-wap' references in the background vocals and the collaboration with Brian Hobart, the record's co-producer and most heavy collaborator - to be the best yet. Can't wait for what comes next!

THE JIM REYNOLDS BAND - Stay

The third studio release from The Goddamn Gallows, and a very notable one at that. You can see in these songs that The Goddamn Gallows were evolving steadily into something new! They still had a little of the psychobilly punk twang, but there was a little more to it than just that. This album was originally self released by the band in 2008, and was re-released on Farmageddon Records in 2011 on limited edition vinyl, and has since been repressed.
