This year at Pynk I had to privilege to play a little set for the very first time. What an honor! What you see on the cover is the art installation that we built for Cielos and Pynk XI with @Fantinb and @Lyorapissarro. This year came strong for the amount of expression that’s coming out, a lot of letting things fly rather than keeping them inside. And that feels absolutely amazing! Romanski presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 218

Mix 007 was recorded live at a pool party in Glendale, CA. I pressed the record button about an hour into the mix, so I apologize for it starting halfway through a track. The recording also cut off at hour 3, but there’s plenty of magic in between :] 

This mix is dedicated to my dearest cousin, Anita. If it wasn’t for Anita, I don’t know if my taste in electronic music would evolve as much as it has. She introduced me to so many new friends, parties, DJ’s. For the last 6 years, she’s put me on a list here, a list there, a list next weekend and the weekend after that. My cousin introduced me to the “scene” - and for that I am forever grateful. 

Exquisite music taste, the most tasteful style, Anita is and attracts the finer things in life. There’s no time for bad music, parties, sound, vibe, people… Anita is smart in her tasteful decision making. If she likes a DJ, that means they’re fucking good. We ain’t got time for bad music. 

I can feel my cousin feel my emotions when I’m playing music. She’s my blood. She feels the butterflies in my tummy, the excitement and obsession for finding fresh music, the passion and love for quality tunes, she feels all those things with me. Music is what brought our relationship closer, and our unconditional love for it melts into our unconditional love for each other.. like a perfect, melty transition. 

Here’s mix 007. I think I spun for a total of 9 hours straight… this was about an eighth of the way into the day, where I try to keep the day time vibes boosted. If I gain the trust of the dancers from the beginning, then I’m free to do whatever I want in the later hours. All these experiences are really making and forming me into such a confident DJ. I feel like I can mix anything with anything. Sometimes my fingers feel like a higher power is taking control. Everything blends so seamlessly. The attention and passion I put into those knobs and faders pump through the speakers. As fast and as much as I’m learning, I will always approach this art with a humble attitude, hunger to learn more, and    excitement for every single opportunity. 

My cousin talks to me on a daily basis. She knows the process and amount of homework I put into this craft. Tracks don’t get put into my playlists easy. The ratio is about listening to a 100 bad tracks to find that 1 really good one. So one thing I’ve learned from my cousin Anita, always pick the finer things in life. Put in your work, set a standard, and don’t settle for mediocre. Thank you cuz, I love you.

The Gardens of Babylon is a growing international brand based in Amsterdam who specialise in full experience events that combine music, spirituality, and visual effects worldwide. Launching the label in 2019, they have quickly cemented their position as a quality purveyor of House music. After two years without an ADE, last month they welcomed back their weekender event, ‘The Seekers Of Light’ and it was a huge success with a whole host of label artists gracing the stage once again in front of a more than excited crowd.

Next up on the release schedule are NY based brothers Corey and Ryan who form Wild Dark (@wilddark), along with Ariaano (1/2 of Anjunadeep mainstays 16BL and a member of the Dutch Electronic trio, Cubicolor) With releases on label including Flying Circus, Do Not Sit, Anjunadeep and Akbal Music their productions are dancefloor oriented, but are also very suited for those sunrise, sunset moments with more emotive and soulful melodies.

Opening with ‘The Instruments’ shuffling percussion and soft sonics compliment deep, rounded kicks. More melodic aside’s midway signal the arrival of warm analogue bass notes and vocal ad libs. Gaining pace, pads and keys add tension, reaching a dramatic and satisfying conclusion. ‘The Delay is Back’ begins with an insistent woodblock groove and one-note pad. Spiky FX nuance and clever percussion allow the minimal vibe to breathe until chants spark the track into life with some exciting drum work.

Rounding off the EP is the title track, ‘For The People’. Sparse, organic drums give way to repeated carnival chants and soaring melodics gaining pace throughout. Reaching fever pitch, the groove drives on for the perfect early morning hands-in- the- air moment.
