Following the release of last year’s critically acclaimed album Puzzles, Danish producer Kasper Bjørke now presents Puzzles Remixes - a collection of five reworks aimed squarely at the dancefloor, delivered by a carefully selected cast of international artists.

Ahead of their much-anticipated debut album, Hamburg’s hottest secret is about to be unleashed on the world. Deo & Z-Man drop their first single for hafendisko, a supreme taster of the future treats in store. 

'Tales of Love' is a beautifully crafted futuristic disco gem – and available here in three wildly different and equally stunning versions. 

The boys work their magic on the original with sweet vocoders, firing disco toms, and perfectly pitched ear for the happy melancholia of the dancefloor. Perhaps referencing their italo roots, 'Tales of Love' is as perfect a pop song as you will hear all year. 

The guys have been building quite a following in the underground, not least for their innovative and open minded live performances and highly creative DJ sets. And it’s the dancefloor where Tigerskin’s remix belongs - teasing out the clubbier elements into something of a stomper that throws a wicked rhythm guitar into the mix. 

The 'RSS Disco & Z-MÆN Remix' is another thing entirely - lush, thoughtful and minimalistic in design, the track finds plenty of room to let the vocals work their charm, while slowly but surely a spacey disco synth takes hold.

Baybi is the fourth and final single taken from the hotly-tipped album “Sprinkles” by Kasper Bjørke. 

As with all Kasper’s output, Baybi is exquisitely produced, resolutely innovative, and perfectly realized with its bouncy mid- tempo, groovy bass line and a deliberately camp vibe from a strangely familiar synthetic saxophone theme - which makes Baybi sounds like a worry free and breezy summer day boat party in a balearics, sometime in the early 2000s. 

Also included is a remix by none other than a living legend: The ever impressive Roman Flügel; who has taken on the original signature elements and turned them into a proper peak time anthem - and will be our safest bet in delivering some transcendental moments on many open air dance floors this summer. Faroese DJ and producer Brynjolfur is one of the leading lights of the Danish club scene, with energetic performances and a charmingly personal musical style. Having dropped the sun-drenched Chain Glass EP for Hamburg's hafendisko at the height of the summer, he returns to the label fold once again with the shimmering disco delights of The Save EP.

'The Save' is an instant mash-up hit, combining disco cowbells and shakers, vintage house piano chords and rhythms, with the finely-tuned wispy vocals of synth pop. It hits the ground running, and build towards a big bright house breakdown that combines skilled songwriting with Brynjolfur's clubbier roots. 

'Time' takes an entirely different tack, emerging with a slow, brooding electro stomp at sultry tempo; it blossoms into instrumental track of cinematic proportions and suspense, that shifts into a cosmic-influenced beauty by the track's end.

On the 4th single from his highly acclaimed 4th LP "After Forever", Kasper Bjørke puts his disco noir anthem "Apart" into the safe hands of two luminary remixing talents.

The original version of "Apart" was selected as "Tune of The Month" in MixMag in the September issue, stating: 
“Its nothing short of genius… Kasper absolutely nailed it”.
And now, on the digital and limited edition 12” vinyl (with beautiful artwork by american artist John Copeland), you will find two epic remixes by Kompakt Records’ head honcho Michael Mayer and renowned UK producer, Ewan Pearson (Jagwar Ma, The Rapture, etc.).
 
Michael Mayer gives the tune's melancholy synth pop an epic feel, remaking it for the deepest and darkest of big room dancefloors, adding a discombobulating synth drone and ramping up the intensity levels.

Ewan Pearson's remix adds a High NRG vibe to expose the yearning vocal before adding layers of arpeggios and synthesizers to an utterly irresistible, motorik pulse with some epic breakdowns.

Both remixes skilfully navigate a line between the pop and dancefloor sensibilities of the original track, respecting the integrity of the bittersweet, emotional vocals of the Icelandic girlgroup Sísy Ey.

After the release of the three singles "Rush", "Sylvia" and "TNR", this package rounds off a quartet of singles, that confirms Bjørke's outstanding talent for sensitively combining influences of post disco and 80s synth pop in new and consistently invigorating ways.

This time, it’s from none other than Berlin underground luminary Johannes Albert, a driving force in the contemporary house and Italo disco scene.

Albert’s remix of Conversations featuring Icelandic trio Sísý Ey (also known as Systur) showcases the finesse of an experienced producer. 

He masterfully preserves the emotional weight of the track’s strong vocal melody while reimagining it with a Cologne-inspired blend of house and techno melancholy. The result is a late-night and early-morning anthem, primed for dancefloor transcendence.
Albert revealed that during an early test run of the remix in a club setting, the reaction among the crowd was unmistakable: lighters held high on the dancefloor, a signal that he was on to something special.

The second of a series of remixes from Kasper Bjørke’s latest album “Puzzles” has been crafted by Kaspe Bjørke himself. “Reworking your own catalogue is always a challenge”, he says “and it’s not something I have done very often. Yet, transforming I Was There into a club track for DJs was incredibly rewarding.

On the Puzzles album, this trackmaybe stood out a bit compared to the rest of the songs - but in its remixed form, it fully embraces its club potential. “On the rework I took out the live bass and guitars and opting for a programmed kick drum while making the overall track more synth-driven. Using a 303 acid bassline and more distinct keyboard layers, I wanted to bring a new dimension to the track while preserving the raw, live energy of the original drums.”

It’s basically a tribute to the 2000’s post disco sound of New York which was and still is incredibly inspiring to me - it was a scene that has had a lasting influence on me both as a
producer and music fan, shaped by my countless trips to the city, for working
on new music, DJing and getting lost in the night life.

The people of Hamburg are associated with traits such as modesty and coolness. The same can be said about the music scene of Germany‘s second largest city: While there is a lot of buzz in the media about cre- atives being envious to the capital, the music scene, especially in the electronic fields, has been thriving here in the last few years. Hafendisko, the Hamburg based new sub label by hfn music, reknowned for their re- leases by Trentemøller and Kasper Bjørke, now puts an end to Hanseatic understatement: “hamburg elektronisch” is a new compilation series of awesome electronic beats from the river Elbe, the first installment focu- ses solely on House music. The 20 tracks of this download-only com- pilation, among which are three exclusives, not only feature old masters like DJ Koze and Lawrence, promising newcomers like Smallpeople und Wareika, but also showcase the most important melting pots of the Hamburg scene.
The new drive of the city is mostly accumulated in two spots: Smallville Records, the first of them, proves that the classic record store still can be of relevance, no matter how much discourse about releases and pro- ducers is now going on in digital networks. The store is small, but run with knowledge and passion. The people there not only curate their own Smallville parties all around the city, but also run an offspring store in Paris and several great labels: “Smallville” (featured here with tracks by Law- rence and Smallpeople), the vinyl-only imprint „Laid“ and, of course, „Dial Records“,the most-famous electronic label in Hamburg, because of its unique melancholic approach to techno music (check out Isolée on this compilation). On top of that, people who help there at the counter also run their labels like RvdS (whose “it’s”-platform is represented here with „A Walk On The Moon“) or book great parties like the “Dear” nights at the “Ego” club - the second epicentre in Hamburg at the moment.
With the “Ego” in the outskirts of the world famous Reeperbahn the city finally has a great techno club again, in addition to the „Baalsaal“ and „Neidklub“. Its owner Solomun also runs the booking agency and label “Diynamic” in the same building. The label already released nearly 50 records in quite a short time and thus is featured heavily here. Apart from Solomun check out Stimming, DJ Phono and H.O.S.H. The latter is also responsible for the ever-growing “Grünanlagen” Open Air parties who usually have an awesome line-up, although they are free.
Apart from other important concert venues like the „Uebel &amp; Gefähr- lich“ and all the nice bars of St. Pauli between the Reeperbahn and the Schanze quarter, at the end of the night the Hamburg scene still meets at the Golden Pudel Club at the harbour. Despite some difficulties it is still going strong and uncommercial after more then twenty years. Not only most of the artists mentioned before run parties here, but lots of the other labels in this collection as well like Liebe*Detail (Wareika, Lo- vebirds), Dérive (Christopher Rau) or Mirau (Tensnake). At the Pudel so many different people and music scenes engage in creative friction. This multitude of styles will be covered in future parts of this “Hamburg elektronisch” series that will also be released on CD. Cause hanseatic understatement is over.

Danish producer Kasper Bjørke has tapped Stockholm’s Axel Boman for a remix of Ugle (Drømmen om Møn), taken from his latest album Puzzles.

Known for his off-kilter, sun-drenched approach to house music, the Studio Barnhus co-founder transforms the original flute-driven instrumental into a heady, groove-laden trip - balancing deep Balearic textures with his signature playful rhythms. 

“How could i resist remixing this little pop gem into the stratosphere” says Boman, “ all the elements are there! Proggy flutes and krauty guitars, dubbing it suitable for the most balearic of sunrises, the coziest afterhours or a just ride down the autobahn through the lush mountains of Spätburgundertal”.

Arriving just in time for the shift from spring into summer, Boman’s rework lands digitally on June 13th via hfn music, ahead of the full Puzzles (Club Remixes) EP, due June, 27th.

Truth marked MANOID’s debut album, a ten-track statement from the Polish producer and live act. First emerging in 2014 and known for his work with Pola Rise, MANOID has taken his sound to audiences across South Korea, Iceland, the Netherlands, and beyond.

Truth reflects that journey. Jazz-tinged electronica with contributions from Atom String Quartet’s cellist, modern classical elements shaped by brass from Jedrzej Kupiec, and a standout vocal performance by Josephine Philip (Darkness Falls) all show the depth and detail in his work. Field recordings from a textile museum in Łódź and personal sketches, like a lullaby turned eerie, add further dimension.

Having marked a dramatic departure into fresh musical territory a serendipitous voyage through synth pop, disco noir, cosmic Krautrock and New Wave - Kasper Bjørke's 4th studio album 'After Forever' now returns in a sparkling new guise, each track tweaked, fine-tuned and reinterpreted in all manner of invigo- rating ways. Justly recognised for the care he takes in seeking out original collaborators, Bjørke dishes up an anthology that is qualitatively different from a standard remix package, jam-packed with imagination, verve and unexpected twists.

Pink Skull set the tone, taking 'Rush' into spooky, spaced-out zones, the vocals floating hauntingly above analogue squelches and acid-tinged bumps. Hot on their heels, DFA-affiliated duo A/JUS/TED extract a dark, moody bass line from 'Sylvia', shrouding Cæcilie Trier's Sade-esque vocal in echo and drone.

Colder heralds his welcome return from a ten-year hiatus by casting 'Marbled Blood' in a Lynchian haze - disconcertingly yet deliciously strange - while Superpitcher takes 'TNR' in a down- tempo direction, replete with surging synth pulses and a haunting picked guitar motif.

From there on in, there's no dropping off in standards. Bryan Kessler transforms 'Grit' into a clockwork machine of strobing guitars and brutal bass stabs. Deo & Z-Man magic up a lush, arpeggiated Balearic classic from 'Lies' and Matt Karmil trans- forms the cold wave of 'Into Smithereens' into a no holds barred exercise in pulsing repetition.

Bringing it home, Michael Mayer amps up 'Apart' for the deepest big room dancefloors, Disco Halal label boss Moscoman hones in on the dreamy, melodic heart of 'Forever' and Phillip Lauer brings his brother Jacob into the fold for the 'Hotel Lauer' version of 'Titan'. With its featherweight congas and spirit of play- ful fun, it's a five-star experience and a more than fitting place to kick back and relax after a bewitching tour of planet Bjørke.

No longer one of Denmark's best kept secrets, Holtoug's talent is firmly out of the bag as he touches down on hafendisko with the yearning 'Stay In Love' - a tune worthy of comparison in feel and tone to Âme's smash 2012 remix of Ry & Frank Wiedemann's 'Howling'. Marrying the drive and energy of dance music to the singer-songwriting sensibility of his indie roots, it's a delicious mélange, intense yet featherlight, booming yet ethereal: an intricate and playful soundworld characterised by breathy pads, deft percussive flourishes and a swooping, swooning bass that basks in all its glory on the accompanying Instrumental version.

On remix duties, hafendisko labelmate Yannick Labbé - best known for his work with Trickski and long association wth Jazzanova/Compost - gets all dark and menacing, adding harsh, machine percussion, vibrating subs and a dis- combobulating counterpoint of eerie, sustained tones.

Meanwhile, Martin Gretschmann (The Not- wist), operating under his Acid Pauli pseudo- nym, mutates the vocal into a cooing, howling, wah-wah as playful intertwined synth lines dan- ce and bounce off each other gleefully. Perpetu- ally inventive, otherworldly stuff!

Imagine bringing together two distinct but complementary musical talents, already established as composers and producers in their own right, one male - with years as a performer on the festival and club circuit behind him - and one female - a rising star with a siren’s voice, a maverick committed to live performance. Imagine their astonishing sound: an intoxicating concoction of driving rhythms, lush synths, psychedelic effects and instantly memorable hooks drenched in a dark atmosphere of melancholy and brooding beauty.

If you can do that, you’re on your way to grasping the wondrous soundworld of ‘Seven Dreams of Fire’, the debut LP from Lydmor & Bon Homme - a partnership that brings together Tomas Høffding, the singer-bassist of experimental Danish electronic pop trio WhoMadeWho and Jenny Rossander aka Lydmor (literally ‘Soundmother’), a singer-song- writing star rising from the fires of the underground and spreading her wings.

Kicking off with single ‘Things We Do For Love’ - a masterclass in slowmo house, with Bon Homme’s husky drawl and Lydmor’s pure voice soaring over a luxurious bed of sustained pads - it’s an album whose consistent quality never lets up. From the stirring orchestral strings of ‘Trooper’ to the expansive motorik disco of ‘Dream Of Fire’ to the lowslung bassy groove of ‘Go Fingers Go’ to the lush, anthemic ‘Flash’ to the stripped down sub bass and intimate vocals of ‘Wired’ it’s a fine representation of the duo’s recent string of intense, crowd-pleasing live performances.

The flipside is more than a match for its counterpart. Starting off with the playful opening of the analogue synth symphony ‘Vanity’ - ample testimony to their experimental edge - it’s yet another string of pop noir classics. ‘Trampoline’ seduces with its breathy pop funk, teeming with crisp, percussive details. ‘Tear Us Apart Again’ is infectious and choric, underpinned by simple but brutally effective synth repetitions. ‘Missed Out On Disco’ features a Cure-like guitar motif with male and female vocals ghosting each other while ‘Dream Of Fire Part 2’s synth drones cast a widescreen, cinematic feel.

On CD and digital versions, there’s the bonus track ‘Rain’: a dreamy bagatelle where Lydmor whispers seductively, tantalisingly out of reach, leaving you wanting more.

Lydmor & Bon Homme - the duo of Tomas Høffding and Jenny Rossander - are to release the third single from their exceptional debut LP.

‘Combining their powers like the Wonder Twins they have elevated the pop game with a touch of darkness, a smidgen of sass, and a whole lot of sex appeal’. (Nordic Spotlight) and now Tomas, (singer and bassist of Danish electronic pop trio WhoMadeWho) and Jenny (singer/ songwriter/ rising star) offer up ‘Missed Out On Disco’, a haunting piece of electronic pop presented here in four versions.

The original, which also appears on their album Seven Dreams of Fire, sees Lydmor and Bon Homme exchange vocals over a synth groove that echoes early 80s New Wave artists - a wistful, moving, modern pop classic.

Belgian electronic artist Pole Folder (Benoit Franquet) and Slovakia’s Just Hear team up on a killer remix which stretches the track out over seven and a half minutes and explores an even more emotional landscape. Jenny’s ethereal vocals are brought to the fore and swathes of melancholia are added through spacey pads and a stripped down, acid-tinged production.

Both the remix and original are also here in their instrumental versions, and draw attention to the amazing sound design and production Lydmor & Bon Homme are rightly celebrated for.

Kasper Bjørke’s re-focus on dance floor music on his upcoming ‘Fountain of Youth’ Mini-LP (out June 10th) continues with this exceptional, second remix part of the single Cloud 9.

Running Back labelboss Gerd Janson’s rework is a deep acid jam, just including a hint of the original vocals (performed by Urdur from Icelandic GusGus) and completely recontextualizing the source material, with its razor sharp rave synth theme. With its numerous twists and turns, Janson has created a timeless anthem.

Sisters & Brothers is a new series of releases under hfn music, curated by Kasper Bjørke and Sexy Lazer. 

The second volume in the series sees the turn of Russian Girls - the brainchild of Guðlaugur Halldór Einarsson, a member of the alternative Icelandic band Fufanu who just released their second album ‘Sports’ and of the duo Captain Fufanu before that.

As russian.girls, Einarsson explores a range of sounds,fitting perfectly into the the Sisters & Brothers ethos.

‘Are We Here Yet’ is a darkly comic and wonky electro pop song full of angular sounds and thick synth riffs.

‘Þeir & Þær’ is another atmospheric oddity, channeling new wave and industrial sounds from the early 80s.

Amfetamíngangsterar’ starts with a stripped down motorik beat and devleops into an echo drenched groover with off-kilter melodies and urgent, nervous stabs.

‘Autopilot’ continues the outsider pop vibe, featuring a loose, detuned groove and spiky guitars around a killer vocal.

What’s clear is that the Sisters & Brothers series is going to provide endless surprises and treasures for the adventurous listener.

Null + Void Cryosleep

Cryosleep is the debut album from Null + Void, the alias of prolifc New York producer Kurt Uenala (@nullandvoidmusic). It’s an album of contrasts and tension, where darkness is pierced by blinding light, and where moody new wave bleeds into stark electronics. In one moment, joyful memories give way to isolation and regret, and in the next, Cryosleep explores the catharsis of crowded dancefloors. Throughout the record, Uenala matches his dynamic production with incredible vocalists—from Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and the inimitable Shannon Funchess, to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (@black-rebel-motorcycle-club) and The Big Pink. Null + Void’s take on dark pop meshes with his love for Detroit electro, poignant synth melodies, and cold atmospheres. 

With the cinematic opener “Falling Down” and brooding instrumentals like “Come To Me”, Cryosleep can feel like the soundtrack to a lost space epic. No
doubt, the album evokes Blade Runner, dystopian landscapes, and the splendor of far-off galaxies. As Uenala puts it, Cryosleep is inspired by “classic sci-fi-stuff,” images of futuristic machines sustaining humans frozen in a dreamstate. The melancholy “Foreverness” explores what they might be thinking: “A collection of fragments, memories of a life lived—preserved, but incomplete and jumbled.” Meanwhile, “Into The Void” paints a peaceful, otherworldly picture, “like soaring towards a white light.” Lead single “Asphalt Kiss” sounds like a frenzied chase scene through rain-slick streets, while the upbeat “Paragon” zips like a bullet train over lush, alien scenery.

But for all of its widescreen beauty and world-building, Null + Void’s debut album also thrives on emotional songwriting and stylish versatility. Uenala dips his beloved old-school genres in chrome, giving them
a contemporary, high-gloss sheen. Dave Gahan’s singular voice brings a classic edge to “Where I Wait,” a stunning song about hope and uncertainty.
“I wrote it with Dave in mind,” Uenala says of his frequent collaborator. “He wrote the melody and lyrics soon after he was sick, which I think influenced the reflective tone.” The song, which also features Sharin Foo of The Raveonettes, shines among Cryosleep ‘s unforgettable pop excursions, alongside the quietly catchy “Take It Easy” and the harrowing “Hands Bound”. Uenala envisioned the “larger than life” voice of Shannon Funchess (@light-asylum) amidst frantic beats and gothic bells, and she brings undeniable power to “Hands Bound”. In awe of her presence, the producer says, “Shannon sings her lyrics about dominance and control with scary conviction.”

The title Cryosleep perfectly accentuates what Null
+ Void expresses throughout his first record. “It’s about the desire to keep loved ones alive beyond their lifespan,” he explains, alluding to the personal life experiences that color this music. “And if you tapped into that frozen person and scanned their last thoughts, their final farewell, this is what might come out.”
To experience Cryosleep is to enter the many worlds of the subconscious, vibrant realms of hidden shadows, lost memories, and the mesmerizing unknown.

Null + Void Where I Wait Remixes Pt.1 The Hacker 

One of the undoubted highlights of the Null + Void (@nullandvoidmusic) long player ‘Cryosleep’ is the collaboration with Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan.

Null + Void is the project of Kurt Uenala, the Swiss born producer and multi-instrumentalist who has a long history of working with synth legends, and ‘Where I Wait’ further enhances that reputation.

Turning over remix duties to The Hacker (@the-hacker) - the French producer delivers a typically dark and driven take on the track. A mid paced groove unfolds with tightly programmed arpeggiated synths seemingly barely under control. Gahan’s iconic vocals float over the top, creating a powerful, poignant track.

Also included is a The Hacker’s Dub Remix, stripping back the vocals into a few dubbed out snippets and echos, and focussing in on the tough groove, courtesy of the tight drums and thick, propulsive bass.

BRYAN KESSLER - SISTERS & BROTHERS VOL. 4

Bryan Kessler (@bryankessler) has made a point of not toeing the line in terms of the sometimes mono-thematic world of electronic dance music. Hailing from Cologne, Kessler started his musical life as a lead singer in an indie band, before discovering the pleasures of the dancefloor for himself. Having released a number of superb tracks on Comeme, Numbers and Get Physical, he now drops a killer 5 tracker on hafendisko.

The new EP is also the fourth volume in the Sisters & Brothers series, curated by Sexy Lazer and Kasper Bjørke.

‘Such a Sweet Ability’ is a pure statement of Kessler’s philosophy with vocals and lyrics by Berlin based artist Claudio Campo-Garcia, - a spoken word vocal laying out his vision - underpinned by a throbbing, low slung techno groove.

‘No Go-Go’ also has a grimey, rock swing to its electronics, with a swung, jagged bassline and crisp, firing percussion. Kessler adds his unique vocals late in the track, heavily treated and moducalted for maximum effect.

‘Tender Me The Tenderness’ treads a similar vein - rough and ready electronics provide the backbone, with tripping, pounding drums maintaining the shape. This one is aimed squarely at the floor.

‘Don’t Be Dumb Pretend You’re Dumb’ employs heavy percussion and a deep, round kick for the dancers, before exploding into fizzing electronic busts of static - something like a carnival happening inside a broken television.

Last up is another exquisitely titled track - ‘Tell Your Friends They Should Better Stop Talking’ - which slows the pace a little but still brings the heat. Off-kilter pulses and bleeps balance out the driving rhythm, while an euphoric synth stab phases in and out across the track.

PABLO SÁNCHEZ - DAYDREAM 

Hailing from Caracas Venezuela, Pablo Sánchez has made his home in Barcelona, carving out an impressive reputation for exciting and eclectic productions and performances. Here, he drops a hugely impressive three tracker for Hamburg’s hafendisko label.

‘Daydream’ is built around a throbbing groove. Thick, punchy kicks and snappy snares set the tone, before the bubbling, rolling baseline brings the propulsion. Spacey synths and shuffling percussion suggest a love of the more outer-fringes of disco and house, before the vocal drops to bring the whole track together.

Pablo Bolivar produces a crispy remix - tonnes of space and dynamism in the mix allows the elements to breath and find their own function - the track explodes into life with a full throttle release of kinetic energy - sure to hit hard when deep into the more cosmic parts of the night.

‘Mahari’ is a finely crafted and slickly executed piece that exists in the same orbit as ‘Daydream’ ,but  nds a different way to shine - pulsing synth tones and stuttering effects cast the vibe deep into space - one that will stick with the more outernational dancefloor troopers.

Hailing from Caracas Venezuela, Pablo Sánchez (@pablosanchez) has made his home in Barcelona, carving out an impressive reputation for exciting and eclectic productions and performances. Here, he drops a hugely impressive three tracker for Hamburg’s hafendisko label.

‘Daydream’ is built around a throbbing groove. Thick, punchy kicks and snappy snares set the tone, before the bubbling, rolling baseline brings the propulsion. Spacey synths and shuffling percussion suggest a love of the more outer-fringes of disco and house, before the vocal drops to bring the whole track together.

Pablo Bolivar (@pablo-bolivar) produces a crispy remix - tonnes of space and dynamism in the mix allows the elements to breath and find their own function - the track explodes into life with a full throttle release of kinetic energy - sure to hit hard when deep into the more cosmic parts of the night.

‘Mahari’ is a finely crafted and slickly executed piece that exists in the same orbit as ‘Daydream’ ,but nds a different way to shine - pulsing synth tones and stuttering effects cast the vibe deep into space - one that will stick with the more outernational dancefloor troopers.

Russian Girls
Digua - Sisters & Brothers Vol. 5

The latest transmission from the Sisters & Brothers series returns to where it began, with Iceland’s latest discovery Russian Girls stepping up for a fierce five track EP. 

“Although Russian Girls started out as a solo project it soon became a platform for me and my friends who like making good music,” founder Guðlaugur Einarsson explains. Today, he defines Russian Girls as a trio, with Tatjana Dís and Gylfi Sigurðsson, for the most part. “Our connection comes from our former studio on Skúlagata (Reykjavík),” says Guðlaugur, “where we spent a lot of time together making music, sharing knowledge and chilling.” Being a member of kraut-techno trio Rafiðn as well as rock bands Skrattar and Fufanu - which evolved from techno duo Captain Fufanu - makes Guðlaugur no stranger to collaboration.

Sisters & Brothers is the result of the combined curational talents of Kasper Bjørke and Sexy Lazer - on a quest to showcase amazing music from their extended musical family.  

On the new Degua EP ‘Villtu Ekki’ (I don’t want) starts things off, a restrained, melancholic opener that combines wistful vocals with slowly modulating synths and a heartbeat like pulse. 

‘Í nótt um dag’ (Night time every day) is still on the outsider pop tip, clearly showcasing how the duo understand hooks and atmosphere. 

‘Bíóbabb’ a co-production between Russian Girls and Kraftgalli raises the temperature somewhat, a quirky effected vocal on top of a tight rhythm section and those trademark posk punk synth sounds. 

‘Por Que Rock’ is a signature low slung, off kilter jam, something the Russian Girls have been pulling off since their first release on Sisters & Brothers. 

Bryan Kessler (@bryankessler), the German DJ, producer and writer, adds his own take to Bíóbabb in a spectacular remix, adding plenty of weight and additional energy for the dancefloor while maintaining the original’s oddball quality.

Featuring the mesmerising vocal talents of fellow dane Jacob Bellens, and bundled along with three simply unmissable remixes from WhoMadeWho, Lopazz &amp; Zarook and Serge Santiago, ‚Young Again‘ is a heart-warming tale of love and life, told through the eyes of a hopeless romantic.

Kasper‘s unique instrumentation and production skills add up to him being one of the most important, young musicians emerging at the moment.

This single shows off his potential for producing hit records, not only with classy, catchy melodies and re-listen-ability but with A-Class studio finesse too!

Jacob Bellens, of ‚I Got You On Tape‘ and ‚Murder‘ fame is well known amongst Copenhagen‘s indie scene, and so it made perfect sense that Kasper teamed up with him, to create this spellbinding, modern pop song.

Kasper then asked Italian string composer Davide Rossi (who has previously worked with artists such as Goldfrapp, Royksopp and The Verve) to perform a cinematic stringsection, making the soundscape of Young Again complete.

To top everything, Swiss graphic designer and multi artist Florence Tetiér and her collective Fortune have created a beautiful music video, to give Young Again a strong visual side as well.


The Remixes: 

Danish indie disco kids WhoMadeWho provide an amazing interpretation full of live instrumentation mixed with casually dubbed electronic undercurrents. Wrapping the original vocal in a pair of skin tight jeans ready to rock out to house music, this hypnotic analogue version is as individual as it is versatile! 

Serge Santiago is a name any respectable electronic music follower should be familiar with. Blending funky italo disco, acid house and everything between, his DJ sets and productions hold him in a class of his own. Santiago‘s ‚Italo Boot Mix‘ whips things into a frenzy, just in time for summer closing parties worldwide!
 
Remix duties are also dutifully fulfilled by Heidelberg‘s Lopazz and Eddie Zarook, who have been friends and studio partners for many years. Lopazz, who‘s countless releases for labels like Get Physical, adds his classic analogue tweaked out touch, while Zarook blends in a touch of deep and techy minimal house into the mix.

Kasper Bjørke is the Danish multi-talent whose second album ‚Standing On Top of Utopia‘ was recently released on hfn music to much international applause. 

The beautiful, classic-analog meets cutting-edge-futuristic sound of the album has kick started a revolution in post-electronic stylings where songwriting and genuine musical ideas stand in the forefront of tough beats or unnerving trippyness. This remix package represents this whole-heartedly, with three outstanding moments in fresh and addictive hybrid sounds, right in time for summer!

‚Heaven‘ was the touching, haunting song that Mr. Bjørke has perhaps become best known for of late. Now a certain Mr. Prins Thomas hands in his amazing ‚Diskomiks‘ version, which stretches out dreamily over 9 minutes in this honest and essentially timeless re-arrangement. Live guitar overdubs, drifting strings and soft, lazy vocals are all in full effect!

Muzzle Flash‘s version adds a little more pressure for the dancefloors, while still maintaining that slower, lazy vibe. This is modern disco house for  real connoisseurs of the genre. With tension and perfectly-timed, carefully measured builds and lifts, this remix boasts warm, room filing vibes with plenty of soul.

American sensation Nicolas Jaar contributes his remix of ‚Heaven‘ which boasts some wonderful live instrumentation, airy, open sound design and a free, hazy atmosphere that really comes alive as the track floats onwards.

With almost 30 years of releasing records under his belt, Dino Lenny has naturally built an incredible back catalogue of productions, remixes and collaborations. 

He’s worked with some of the biggest names in the business, yet his own productiaons retain a distinct, personal style that is all his own. 

With Camouflaged, Lenny drops polished, groovy dance music that will light up many floors this year. 

The original version rides a solid motorik beat, allowing for moody piano elements and a haunting vocal to take the track to another level. 

Lenny’s sense for drama and space is preserved on the Black and White mix, but with a straighter house groove aimed firmly at the late night dancers. 

Hafendisko regular Brynjolfur also adds his own interpretation of Camouflaged - a driving electronic workout with a filthy, mutating bassline and dramatic pads.

A new release this winter marks a landmark moment in an important musical story. Way back in little 2009, the label hfn music was born in Hamburg, and made its introduction to the world with the release of the Trentemøller compilation Harbour Boat Trips: 01 Copenhagen. 
Founder Tobias Lampe wanted to start a label that was more broad in scope than his previous, more electronic focussed projects, and the compilation provided the perfect opportunity to launch one. In the 10 years since then, the label has survived the whirlpool waters of the early 21st century’s constantly changing music industry, and released everything from pop to art-punk, with artists ranging from New York to the Faroe Islands. 
Now, they’re about to put out their 100th release. Fittingly, given the label’s focus on new and innovative music, and the historic aspect of the release, hfn100 sees one of hfn’s best songs of 2019 put into the hands of the man it all started with, Anders Trentemøller. His danish compatriots Blaue Blume’s new album Bell Of Wool is one of hfn’s standout releases this year, and so hfn100 sees Trentemøller remix one of that record’s standout tracks, the fragile, but soaring “Lovable”. 
In Blaue Blume’s original, “Lovable” is an airy, tormented song, a gossamer-delicate composition that carefully stitches together layers and layers of shining synths that gradually build up and up into a peak, before crashing into a subtle beat, a musical journey that mirrors vocalist Jonas Smith’s trip from anguish to numbness. Whereas the original’s music sounds woven together from light, Trentemøller takes it into darker territory. He hooks the song to a harsh, sparse beat leaving Smith’s vocals bare and isolated in the burnt out, dystopic musical landscape he creates. 
Trentemøller mirrors the original’s careful building up, adding new elements to fill in the song’s sound, before it collapses into a tough, noir disco groove. It’s a perfectly realised remix – Trentemøller keeps the original song’s skeleton and soul, but fills in the space with sonic touches that could be no one else’s but his. Ultimately, it’s a fitting song for hfn’s hundredth release. For a label that’s always been a platform for its boundary pushing artists, a collaboration between two of them, that sees an already innovative song pushed into a bold new shape is the perfect way for hfn to step into the next 100 releases.

Kasper Bjørke is no stranger to the art of the remix, having amassed a prodigious back catalogue over the past half decade. However, unlike so many other artists driven to churn out versions to keep their name in the limelight, one gets the sense that the young Dane has a quality control mechanism that elevates each mix he puts his name to – and a crucially deft ear for the artists he invites to rework his own compositions.

It’s with that in mind that hfn music proudly presents Remix Crusades (2007 – 2013) – a timely reminder that remixes can offer committed artists the creative platform to produce some of their most inventive work. Split evenly down the middle, half of this release focuses on remixes of Kasper Bjørke tracks over the past 5 years (including tracks of his 2012 album release ‘Fool’), with the second half a treasure trove of remixes he made for other artists.

Available in one place for the first time, the collection (which also contains a couple of exclusive unreleased tracks), is a perfect summation of the Bjørke’s disco-fied house music style, and a great opportunity for the non-DJs to catch up with his exceptionally high output over the last few years.

The list of artists lining up to re-interpret his original compositions is mouth-watering to say the least – from US sensations Nicolas Jaar, Still Going and Slow Hands, to the cream of European club land – rising stars Mano le Tough, Maxxi Soundsystem and Catz’n Dogz, underground flag-bearers Wareika, and fellow countrymen Trentemøller, WhoMadeWho and Kenton Slash Demon.

When Bjørke himself is at the controls, the results are no less devastating. Bjørke describes the process thus, “a remix portfolio becomes a sort of production diary that can go hand in hand with my own original material. It reflects my influences of the time I worked on the remix – and sometimes you can hear sounds and ideas in the remixes that have affected compositions on my own singes and albums.”

As evidence of this, witness the outstanding work he produces for the likes of Michoacan, Trentemøller, Ilya Santana, Moby, Gluteus Maximus, Human Woman and many more. His talent for deconstructing wildly disparate styles and pulling together tracks that are definitively by the hand of Kasper Bjørke, is clear to see.
