Ahead of their much-anticipated debut album, Hamburg’s hottest secret is about to be unleashed on the world. Deo & Z-Man drop their first single for hafendisko, a supreme taster of the future treats in store. 

'Tales of Love' is a beautifully crafted futuristic disco gem – and available here in three wildly different and equally stunning versions. 

The boys work their magic on the original with sweet vocoders, firing disco toms, and perfectly pitched ear for the happy melancholia of the dancefloor. Perhaps referencing their italo roots, 'Tales of Love' is as perfect a pop song as you will hear all year. 

The guys have been building quite a following in the underground, not least for their innovative and open minded live performances and highly creative DJ sets. And it’s the dancefloor where Tigerskin’s remix belongs - teasing out the clubbier elements into something of a stomper that throws a wicked rhythm guitar into the mix. 

The 'RSS Disco & Z-MÆN Remix' is another thing entirely - lush, thoughtful and minimalistic in design, the track finds plenty of room to let the vocals work their charm, while slowly but surely a spacey disco synth takes hold. 

Clearly heading for great things, Deo and Z-Man have provided us with a perfect primer for their upcoming album, and a must have release in its own right.

On the 4th single from his highly acclaimed 4th LP "After Forever", Kasper Bjørke puts his disco noir anthem "Apart" into the safe hands of two luminary remixing talents.

The original version of "Apart" was selected as "Tune of The Month" in MixMag in the September issue, stating: 
“Its nothing short of genius… Kasper absolutely nailed it”.
And now, on the digital and limited edition 12” vinyl (with beautiful artwork by american artist John Copeland), you will find two epic remixes by Kompakt Records’ head honcho Michael Mayer and renowned UK producer, Ewan Pearson (Jagwar Ma, The Rapture, etc.).
 
Michael Mayer gives the tune's melancholy synth pop an epic feel, remaking it for the deepest and darkest of big room dancefloors, adding a discombobulating synth drone and ramping up the intensity levels.

Ewan Pearson's remix adds a High NRG vibe to expose the yearning vocal before adding layers of arpeggios and synthesizers to an utterly irresistible, motorik pulse with some epic breakdowns.

Both remixes skilfully navigate a line between the pop and dancefloor sensibilities of the original track, respecting the integrity of the bittersweet, emotional vocals of the Icelandic girlgroup Sísy Ey.

After the release of the three singles "Rush", "Sylvia" and "TNR", this package rounds off a quartet of singles, that confirms Bjørke's outstanding talent for sensitively combining influences of post disco and 80s synth pop in new and consistently invigorating ways.

Hafendisko serve up the first of two mouth-wa- teringly delicious EPs from Yannick Labbé - best known for his work as part of Trickski and a long association with the Jazzanova-Compost axis. It's a hypnotic brew of deeply seductive house direct from his base on Hamburg's Seilerstraße.

"All Of It", a slow-house burner, contrasts nebulous vocals with crisp percussive elements, sustained sub bass and synth pings that pulse around the ste- reo field to conjure a hazy atmosphere. Montreal's Zach Joss, aka Forrest, showcases an extraordi- nary vocal range - breathy, distorted and androgy- nous in turns.

On remix duty, Borrowed Identity consolidates his growing reputation with a re-work that underpins the tune with a rubbery bounce and insistent pulsing bass. Dancefloor-ready yet meditative, tough yet tender, it's a remix that bends the original in new directions while respecting its emotional core.

For his mix, Leipzig lynchpin Filburt demonstrates a musical sensibility honed in the DJ booth: seductive, deadly deep and hauntingly hypnotic, with an added funky edge to the closing minutes.

The playful "Du!" rounds things off: underpinned by a swarming, hypnotic repetition, a simple vocal line intones the title to work a mysterious and wilfully strange magic.

No longer one of Denmark's best kept secrets, Holtoug's talent is firmly out of the bag as he touches down on hafendisko with the yearning 'Stay In Love' - a tune worthy of comparison in feel and tone to Âme's smash 2012 remix of Ry & Frank Wiedemann's 'Howling'. Marrying the drive and energy of dance music to the singer-songwriting sensibility of his indie roots, it's a delicious mélange, intense yet featherlight, booming yet ethereal: an intricate and playful soundworld characterised by breathy pads, deft percussive flourishes and a swooping, swooning bass that basks in all its glory on the accompanying Instrumental version.

On remix duties, hafendisko labelmate Yannick Labbé - best known for his work with Trickski and long association wth Jazzanova/Compost - gets all dark and menacing, adding harsh, machine percussion, vibrating subs and a dis- combobulating counterpoint of eerie, sustained tones.

Brynjolfur has been making waves on the international scene for a little while now, follo- wing his breakout single on Eskimo in 2013. Here, the DJ producer from the Faroe Islands drops another exceptional slice of futuristic disco and backs it up with two stunning remixes.

M25 is beautifully produced - arpeggiated synths, tight drums and a driving, spacey quality that will work just as well for speeding down the autobahn as in the club.

Elsewhere, Mihai Popoviciu provides a suitably distinctive remix - building slowly before unleashing the sparkling melodies and driving bass.

Once more the label stands up and shouts about the city’s rich and diverse electronic music scene. The series so far has brought together local legends and up and coming artists alike - showing the world that Hamburg’s famous modesty hides an embarrassment of riches.

This vinyl only EP lands prior to the full compilation, and features some exclusive reasons to get very excited.

Hamburg based hafendisko has been responsible for some incredible output over the last few years, and are noted for their judicious selection of remixers.

This vinyl only release confirms the fact – a selection of four shimmering remixes of hafendisko material including a new remix by Smallville’s Julius Steinhoff which is exclusive to this vinyl release. His rework of 'Alive' - a new track by hfn’s highly rated Ebb – is a sublime slice of deep emotional house music, strings, keys and synths interplaying perfectly with gentle vocals form the Swedish outfit.

Brynjolfur’s new track 'M25' already receives brilliant feedback from those in the know, and it’s Mihai Popoviciu’s remix that get the nod here – crafted for the dancefloor but at the same time deeply musical and moving.

Similarly, Jacob Bellens’ 'Polyester Skin' - taken from the upcoming correspondent album - receives an outstanding remix treatment by Tuff City Kids (aka Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer).

Jordan Lieb, the New York based producer/ musician behind the black light smoke project (or Tiger Fingers which was also released on hafendisko), drops an uber fresh EP release on hafendisko. 

The lead track - ‘Fire in My Head’ - has the hallmark elements of Lieb’s  finest productions - a thick, infectious groove with plenty of flavour
- snappy snares, deep pads and a super soulful vocal from fellow New Yorker Dana Hom.

‘Wise Guy’ is just as well realised - existing somewhere between Lieb’s hometown of Chicago and his adopted city of New York in terms of style - the drums are super tight yet with plenty of swing - the production leaves plenty of space for the heavily treated vocals to sit within the groove - pure late night material.

‘Signals’ is a little tougher - a sick, crunchy rhythm track ushering in the moody synth stabs and cut up vocals. For those that like it even deeper and rawer, a Stripped Mix of ‘Signals’ is also included here, which pears the original down to the rhythm track and a few other sparse elements.
Likewise, dubs of ‘Wise Guy’ and title track ‘Fire in My Head’ are also offered present, taking things deep into the dance.

Jordan Lieb - aka Black Light Smoke - is an Emmy Award winning composer/producer/musician whose records and live sets are drenched with characteristics of house, 80s post punk, synthwave and electro.

The Loving You EP is no exception - ‘Third Up’ kicks things off with a strong slice of NY house - raw and overdriven, it’s dripping with flavor, featuring tight vocal loops and crunchy 808 hits.

‘Marimba’ has a similar tape saturated vibe, highlight the killer hook and crisp, funky rhythm track. Lieb’s ear for musicality is always represented, and the marimba melody flips the track into another direction.

Last up is ‘Loving You’ - an uplifting take on classic house tropes - pitched up vocal, a bouncy drum track and sick synth leads. All in all, a perfectly realised three tracker from the New York native now Nashville resident.

BRYAN KESSLER - SISTERS & BROTHERS VOL. 4

Bryan Kessler (@bryankessler) has made a point of not toeing the line in terms of the sometimes mono-thematic world of electronic dance music. Hailing from Cologne, Kessler started his musical life as a lead singer in an indie band, before discovering the pleasures of the dancefloor for himself. Having released a number of superb tracks on Comeme, Numbers and Get Physical, he now drops a killer 5 tracker on hafendisko.

The new EP is also the fourth volume in the Sisters & Brothers series, curated by Sexy Lazer and Kasper Bjørke.

‘Such a Sweet Ability’ is a pure statement of Kessler’s philosophy with vocals and lyrics by Berlin based artist Claudio Campo-Garcia, - a spoken word vocal laying out his vision - underpinned by a throbbing, low slung techno groove.

‘No Go-Go’ also has a grimey, rock swing to its electronics, with a swung, jagged bassline and crisp, firing percussion. Kessler adds his unique vocals late in the track, heavily treated and moducalted for maximum effect.

‘Tender Me The Tenderness’ treads a similar vein - rough and ready electronics provide the backbone, with tripping, pounding drums maintaining the shape. This one is aimed squarely at the floor.

‘Don’t Be Dumb Pretend You’re Dumb’ employs heavy percussion and a deep, round kick for the dancers, before exploding into fizzing electronic busts of static - something like a carnival happening inside a broken television.

Last up is another exquisitely titled track - ‘Tell Your Friends They Should Better Stop Talking’ - which slows the pace a little but still brings the heat. Off-kilter pulses and bleeps balance out the driving rhythm, while an euphoric synth stab phases in and out across the track.

PABLO SÁNCHEZ - DAYDREAM 

Hailing from Caracas Venezuela, Pablo Sánchez has made his home in Barcelona, carving out an impressive reputation for exciting and eclectic productions and performances. Here, he drops a hugely impressive three tracker for Hamburg’s hafendisko label.

‘Daydream’ is built around a throbbing groove. Thick, punchy kicks and snappy snares set the tone, before the bubbling, rolling baseline brings the propulsion. Spacey synths and shuffling percussion suggest a love of the more outer-fringes of disco and house, before the vocal drops to bring the whole track together.

Pablo Bolivar produces a crispy remix - tonnes of space and dynamism in the mix allows the elements to breath and find their own function - the track explodes into life with a full throttle release of kinetic energy - sure to hit hard when deep into the more cosmic parts of the night.

‘Mahari’ is a finely crafted and slickly executed piece that exists in the same orbit as ‘Daydream’ ,but  nds a different way to shine - pulsing synth tones and stuttering effects cast the vibe deep into space - one that will stick with the more outernational dancefloor troopers.

MANOID - Truth 

MANOID (@manoid-music)  returns to Hafendisko this October with his debut long player ‘Truth’, comprising ten original tracks from the Polish producer and live act.

Rising producer MANOID has been steadily developing his unique approach to electronic music for the past few years, releasing his first tracks in 2014 and co-producing material for fellow Polish artist Pola Rise, whilst taking his live act across the globe to The Netherlands, South Korea,Iceland and more.

Here though, we see him marking a milestone in his career with his debut album for hafendisko, the Hamburg-based sublabel of hfn music, which has played host to music from Trentemøller, Kasper Bjørke, Lydmor, Null + Void amongst others.

Across the Truth LP MANOID delivers an amalgamation of styles ranging from jazz-tinged electronica like opener ‘No Time’, which features the Cellist from Atom String Quarted, one of Poland’s top jazz groups, through to modern classical influences such as ‘Letting Freedom Grow’ which is based around brass instruments recorded by Jedrzej Kupiec.

One half of Darkness Falls and Trentemøller collaborator Josephine Philip also delivers vocals on ‘Take Me’, adding yet another musical twist to the package, whilst further ideas came to fruition through field recordings such as ‘When’ which is based upon recordings from a textile museum in the city of Lodz, and ‘For Roses’ which was initially made as a lullaby for MANOID’s niece but he felt was a little too dark so later developed it into this enchantingly eerie composition for the album.

MANOID’s debut album radiantly displays charm, maturity and musicality throughout and joins the thread of his musical influences and experiences perfectly.

MANOID’s ‘Truth’ LP is out on hafendisko 05th October (Vinyl) and 25th October (Digital) 2018.

Six years after his latest LP ‘Busted With A Bag Of Bliss’ came out on My Favourite Robot, Canadian indie electronica master Sid Le Rock returns with his fifth studio album ‘Scenic Route’.

The new LP, which will come out on April 26 via hafendisko, is the result of a year-long production process, marked by total creative freedom in the studio.

“Reflecting the ethos of my over 15-year long music career, ‘Scenic Route’ is all about taking the long way — embracing my experiences and humility by continuing forth along a road less traveled, rather than seeking instant gratification and shortcuts in life,” Sid Le Rock says.

With a total of eight LPs, four of which were released under his Sid Le Rock moniker, it’s clear that albums are the Berlin-based producer, live act, DJ and vocalist’s preferred form of expression. 

“I’m an album artist. I prefer the concept of an album, because it’s more intertwined with all your influences, your musical goals and directions, and you can get away with a lot more experimenting, expression and explorations than you can with an EP. EPs for me are foreplay,” he explains. 

With a total running time of 60 minutes, Scenic Route is a musical journey through a wide palette of sounds, ranging from dancefloor tracks ‘Kismet’ and ‘Morgenfrisk’, electro masterpieces ‘Speak Sweetly’ and ‘Hiraeth’, vocal-heavy indie electronica gems ‘Slowpoke’ and ‘First Kiss’, and cinematic beauties like ‘Waldeinsamkeit’.

With almost 30 years of releasing records under his belt, Dino Lenny has naturally built an incredible back catalogue of productions, remixes and collaborations. 

He’s worked with some of the biggest names in the business, yet his own productiaons retain a distinct, personal style that is all his own. 

With Camouflaged, Lenny drops polished, groovy dance music that will light up many floors this year. 

The original version rides a solid motorik beat, allowing for moody piano elements and a haunting vocal to take the track to another level. 

Lenny’s sense for drama and space is preserved on the Black and White mix, but with a straighter house groove aimed firmly at the late night dancers. 

Hafendisko regular Brynjolfur also adds his own interpretation of Camouflaged - a driving electronic workout with a filthy, mutating bassline and dramatic pads.

Eva Be has been a defining presence on Berlin’s music scene over the past 20 years. Being an integral part of the Sonar Kollektiv crew since the early days, her style has spanned multiple genres and moods, ranging from trip hop, dub, experimental electronics through to house and elements of techno. Here, after a couple of outings on Poker Flat Recordings, Eva joins hafendisko with three tracks that perfectly encapsulate her eclectic, funky style. 
This Is Be. E. ratchets up the tempo for a more direct reaction - Eva’s exceptional sound design provides a track full of flavour and nuance - while hitting hard enough to keep any dancefloor on its toes. 
The Way is a rolling dubby house track - the driving groove is coupled with trippy delays and drum fills. 
Elbows also experiments with echoes and space - a minimal groove supplies the basis for dubbed out spoken word vocals before a thick bass line kicks in.
