Es ist eben so mit den Dingen, die anders sind alles andere, dass niemand mit ihnen rechnet, bevor sie da sind. So verhält es sich wohl auch mit dem Album ‚Momoko' des Elektropop-Trios DAS MAER, einem Sammelsurium aus allerlei unterhaltsamen und doch tiefgründigen Kuriositäten, erträumt in einer schlaflosen, isolierten Woche in der Mineaturmetropolis Heidenheim, das nun nach mehr als einjähriger Feinarbeit erscheint. Die Mär vom MAER beginnt mit einem Tanzbären, so unscheinbar zunächst wie drollig, der sich aus Berlin auf eine Reise durch den musikalischen Untergrund begab, auf viel Wohlwollen stieß und so aus einem Einweg-Projekt ein etabliertes Trio zauberte. Auf der anderen Seite der Geschichte steht nun das Debütalbum desgleichen in den Startlöchern: Momoko, der namensgebende Spielzeugroboter, inspirierte DAS MAER – bestehend aus Elektroszeneveteranen Yannek Maunz, Brascon und Johanson – zu einer Langspielplatte, die ihrer ersten Silbe würdig ist. Mehr als eine Stunde klangliches Kontrastprogramm – von Violine und Kinderchor bis TB-03 und Autotune – erwartet Hörerin und Hörer hier. Darin gebettet Geschichten, Fantasien und Klamaukgedichte übers Erwachsenwerden, Verliebtsein, Feiern, das Fahren im 40-Tonner oder im Nachtbus, manchmal herzzerreißend melancholisch, manchmal weltfremd optimistisch und immer mal wieder tief zwischen den Zeilen versteckt. Dem Credo ihres bisherigen Schaffens bleiben die drei Kollaborateure treu: immer der Intuition nach, Genre-Grenzen beherzt überschreiten und sich vor allem nie zu ernst nehmen. Da ist es nun also: Etwas, das so noch nie war und das sich doch so anfühlt, als hätte man es sich schon immer gewünscht

THE CHASE

In hot anticipation of Kasper Bjørke's fouth solo-longplayer, hafendisko presents the remixpackage for 'Rush', the first song taken off the new album.

A Kasper Bjørke single release wouldn't be the same without a string of superb remixes - a trait he managed to keep up over his countless releases on numerous labels. 

Here, 'Rush' is treated to some outstanding reworks by:
Abstraxion aka Harold Boué, a young French producer based in London and Marseille is known especially for his stellar debut album Breaking Lights, signed to Nicolas Jaars label Other People.

Abstraxion provides a mid-paced burner that adds arpeggiated synths and chops up the vocals to wonderful effect - maintaining that sense of melancholy from the original, but priming the track for more discerning dance-floor action. The dub takes things a notch deeper.

Copenhagen's rising star Brynjolfur provides a high energy killer take, thickening up the bottom end and developing the groove into a chug that references Kraftwerk and Donna Summer in a perfectly crafted pop context.

Philadelphia freaks Pink Skull's version of 'Rush' opts for a more acidic and spaced out direction in line with the trio’s narcotic electronic vibe. The full remix allows the vocals to float airlessly above the squelches and bumps - a supremely effective piece of outsider house music, complemented by the even-spacier dub.

Marred by illness, pandemic and disaster, this record is unapologetic in Daniel Gardner‘s portrayal of life looking upwards through the murky waters of rock-bottom.

Thick, dark and jagged striations of dreams stomped down into piles of discarded artifacts, sometimes accented by the fleeting chorus of human yearning, sometime forgot about altogether in moments of ignorant bliss.

In ‚Release Paralysis‘, the specific circumstances are not to be revealed, inasmuch the importance of recognizing that events occured and shaped an emotional state which is valid and inarguably human.

Creativity isn‘t always beautiful, although honesty usually is.

Perhaps now the paralysis can be released.
