random headcanon time: the reason this version is less creepy than the rby version is because our protagonists from johto are more educated about bugs thanks to previous interactions with bugsy which makes them not afraid of the many bugs in viridian forest, unlike the kantonian protagonists who do not have a prominent bug specialist to look up to and thus are more afraid of bugs.
