Hadrat ’Abd al-Ghânî an-Nablusî [d. 1143 A.H. (1731)] wrote in his Al-hadîqa: “The 7th âyat of sûrat al-Anbiyâ says, ‘Ask the men of dhikr what you do not know.’ ‘Dhikr’ means ‘knowledge’. The hadîth sherîf, written in the Sahîh of al-Bukhârî, declares, “Allâhu ta’âlâ, to take knowledge away from you, will take away the ’ulamâ’ who live up to their knowledge. The ignorant will remain.
