Lorenzo Masotto is a composer and pianist from Verona, Italy, with releases on labels such as Sonder House, Lady Blunt Records, Preserved Sound and Dronarivm. He has performed in many venues, most notably London’s Union Chapel whilst tours have taken him to California Sofar and concerts at the Iberian Theater in Lisbon and the concert at De Helling in Utrecht.

i=r is an album which Lorenzo started to write when the pandemic broke out across northern Italy and much of the world, in March 2020. He set out initially to explore the complete tonal possibilities of a Seiler upright piano, restricted to two microphones. He became fascinated as he discovered the beauty and sonic elegance of a hammer touching the string, muffled by felt, as the motion and vibrations created all kinds of creaks and noises within the wood.

i=r, known as Snell’s Law, is the law of refraction. Each piece of this album represents a different refraction, as different points of view reflected in an artificial or natural mirror. The accompanying photography by Michele Dolci is as much a part of the album as the music, as individual scenes of symmetry, asymmetry and reflection each depict a given track from the album.

It is perhaps fitting exactly one year on since the ideas behind this album emerged, that this bright and fluid collection of compositions beam their rays of hope back from those dark reflections. Light and darkness, warmth and cold, strong and frail, hopeful and despairing. Our hope now is to emerge into the light, under the warmth of spring, with a renewed strength born of our collective despair.

There is no doubt that the birth of a child is the most incredible, wonderous, and, frankly, miraculous event to be a part of. It’s the climax of the most complex and awe-inspiring biological processes, the most radical change the human body can go through and the most utterly emotionally over-whelming event possible. No wonder everyone involved is knocked for six....“The music was recorded in the moments after baby Alma had gone to sleep. All tracks were recorded using electric guitar and effect pedals. Alex Bober - Reflections Of Yesterday

Anthéne is Toronto, Canada based artist Brad Deschamps who has been recording Ambient music since 2011, after also forming part of the duo North Atlantic Drift for which he’d performed alongside artists such as Benoit Pioulard and Bing and Ruth. Solo releases have emerged on leading labels such as Hibernate, Sound In Silence and most recently Home Normal, who released ‘weightless’ only last month which label boss Ian Hawgood describes on the website as ‘warm analog sleep echoes’. Brad also runs the magnificent Polar Seas Recording label, which has released material from artists such as Mikael Lind, Celer and Andrew Tasselmyer.

We’re pleased to present the next release in Brad’s catalog, which is entitled ‘asymmetry’ as he strived to explore different depths of sound. The title of the album was born out of his idea of recording in different ways to create narrow, saturated recordings as well as widescreen ambience yet trying to blend these works together as a cohesive whole. Guitar and effects pedals, synthesizers and field recordings are some of the elements that form the basis of this dynamic yet minimal range of compositions but a simple yet key ingredient can be heard in the warm and gentle tape hiss which underpins the record.

Whilst Brad’s ideas are rooted in joining disparate, unrelated textures, the resulting record is something that makes sense; the seven pieces have been lovingly mastered by Ian Hawgood, the sheer patience of each gently unfolding track will comfort even the most restless of soul and the packaging design features artwork from Peter Nejedly. Somewhere, unintentionally, an indescribable theme emerges from nothing to blanket your eyes and ears.

This album was conceived in Moscow during the Spring of 2018, when Dmitry Vasilyev organized the concert of Enrico Coniglio and Giulio Aldinucci at дом - Dom Cultural Centre. The album reflects the feelings of some very intensive days made of exchanges of ideas with a multitude of people involved in music (including Dmitry Taldykin of Dronarivm) and moments spent in isolated places out of the metropolis, like a forest not far from an army shooting range.

In this album, the two musicians wave together memories of an immutable past and questions about the present, giving birth to a sort of a requiem overflowing with lyricism. This music enlighten the dawn of a future that now appears more uncertain than ever, with frozen intensity and dramatic strength. As a message entrusted to the stars, it leaves as wondering if we can still change the course of events.
