Facing the Storm

In February of 2022, as Storm Eunice worked its way across the UK, two people, namely Greig Baird and his partner Susie Baird set out for a rare weekend away on the North Coast of Devon. The weather was rough, but life affirming. The North Devon coast spectacular and dramatic; made more so by the waning storm.

This collection is a set of sonified memories; moments in a particular location at a particular time. A creative recalling. A set of sound postcards if you will.

Dronny Darko brings us a new album of dark dreams, recorded in the smoke filled Black Room studio (Kiev, Ukraine). 

Dark entities roam the edge of our reality. An incomprehensible intellect observes our primitive patterns and behaviors. Vulnerable and naked, you become abducted and pulled into their domain. Examined by strange machines that hum, buzz and drip. You awaken, ankle deep in a purple fetid sludge that submerges the floor of the charcoal citadel. Alien symbols adorn the colossal doorways here, each leading into a new world. In the distance guttural clicks reverberate as they watch your trembling steps from within the shadows. Are they waiting for you to choose your fate? 

This album merges the lowercase and minimal genre with a strong science fiction element. Throbbing bass layers croak and groan under the pressure of whirling machines that buzz and hum. Very dark and brooding.

Phil Tomsett & Aaron Martin - The Sound of Someone Leaving

Phil Tomsett is a UK based sound artist, composing organic, ethereal and impressionistic ambient music for labels such as Home Normal and Fluid Audio. As The Inventors Of Aircraft, Tomsett has also put out records on Time Released Sound, Serein, whitelabrecs, Rural Colours, Audio Gourmet Netlabel and hibernate. If the aesthetic of the mentioned imprints evokes a particular sonic response in your awareness, then you shall know what to expect from his new release. Joined by Aaron Martin for the cello accompaniment, and a touch of Ian Hawgood's reel-to-reel analogue mastering, The Sound Of Someone Leaving is a sombre requiem for the empty spaces left behind by a presence fleeting in time. "Absence is powerful. When someone isn’t there anymore the empty space is charged with emotional power. As if the act of vanishing leaves behind an ethereal, supernatural signature." Tomsett impounds that signature with a combination of the layered and looped arrangement of synths, strings, and choral vocals, which draw on the memories, moments, and sense. Today I am sharing with you an exclusive premiere of a title track from the album, which captures the essence of feelings and tone.
