We are very proud to welcome Djrum to the Samurai labels with a single that marks a more musically open minded approach Red Seal will take from 2015 onwards. Already debuted by Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music Recommends and featured in Synkro's mixes for Boiler Room and iD Mag, this 12" is garnering serious interest from the wider electronic community. 

Djrum is an artist we have admired for some time and embodies the individual approach we respect in electronic music artists. An incredible DJ as well as producer, Djrum exists in his own unique musical universe with loose ties to many genre's, but giving the majority of his music a classification often proves futile. Such is the case with his Samurai debut. A pair of sprawling, epic musical moodswings, both sides enchant with their multi layered glide.

‘Waters Rising’ is a collaboration with vocalist Lola Empire and was originally written around a piano sketch that was sent back and forth between the two artists until it became the fully realised song you hear now.  

"I really hadn't expected love to be a theme in the album, but I was chatting with Lola and she told me how she'd fallen in love. I sent her the initial sketch for this and told her i didn't think love was an appropriate subject for it. but she came out with this. 
'love is dark' she said."

People often ask us how we continually / consistently uncover such amazing talent from around the world. I could go on for hours about it but the short answer is we just look… really, really hard. We go deep, with an open mind, and an ear tuned acutely to “the vibe”. It’s not a popularity contest and definitely not about expectations of what we are as a label. We've never been about a “sound” but more an attitude: we like what we like, and we aren’t afraid to back it. We put our money where our mouth is, so to speak. In that spirit, Ukrainian bad bwoy Bejenec has to be one of my favorite discoveries of the last year. His artist bio describes him as “young ukrainian artist and producer who performs razor-sharp melodic live acts, traversing breakbeat, acid, techno etc”. Which in 2019 is pretty standard, BUT it was the simple use of “etc” that really pulled me in with an immediate sense of playfullness and zero-fuck-giving. I find that essence permeating throughout all his music & online visual diaries (his instagram, cheekyly titled “@albms4free” alone is certain to mess up the algorithms of your mind). Bejenec’s music is attention grabbing, and makes you look twice to try figure it out. Like that cheap male hooker that is surprisingly impossibly hot, Standing at 3am on the corner of a bad street, in a neighbourhood you really shouldn't feel comfortable in, but you find yourself "into it". Bejenec's latest offering "Don't Stand And Weep"  has that "double take” factor, and for us, THAT is the vital ingredient.

Hidden Element is electronic act from Kyiv, Ukraine. By blending elements of breakbeat, techno and ambient, producer Igor Kirilenko creates forward-thinking music with shifty rhythms, cinematic samples and deep textures. Inspired by classic sci-fi movies, it’s a perfect soundtrack both for crowded ecstatic club nights and solitary mind-wandering.

Igor began releasing tracks as Hidden Element in 2011, firstly as a duo with Nil Tarasov, and now as a solo project. Over the years he released music on various labels including Med School, Pinecone Moonshine, Alphacut, Silent Season, YUKU. 

Project’s track “I See The Light” (feat. Kiyomi Yamashita) was noted by DJ Mag as “Track of the Month”. Track “Reload, Replay” was played by Steve Lamacq on BBC1Xtra. Debut LP “Together” released on Absys Records in 2016 received a number of positive reviews and warm feedback from El Hornet (Pendulum), Ulrich Schnauss and other producers. 

Hidden Element also created official remixes for a variety of artists, from British drum’n’bass legend London Elektricity to Ukrainian pop-singer and Eurovision winner Jamala.

In 2020–2021 Hidden Element manifested a new ambitious chapter with EP trilogy “Comparisons” / “Kontinuum” / “Cycles”. Packed with intense contemporary breakbeat and seasoned with high class remixes from Throwing Snow, Andre Bratten, Prayer, Cocktail Party Effect, these EPs earned praise from Mixmag Japan, Mixmag UK, Mixmag Brazil, BARKS, Qetic, Inverted Audio etc. A bunch of tracks from the trilogy was also aired on BBC Radio 1 in numerous guest mixes.
