Lab Diaries: Unmuted 002 w/ N3VMD

From Another Star’s first EP of 2025, Perimeter Four, creates an alliance between two techno forces spanning the globe while reaching for the cosmos.

Audio Resistance is an Italian techno producer whose catalogue stretches back to 2016, appearing on Lewis Fautzi’s Faut Section and Italian techno powerhouse Arts amongst others, and who heads his own Collapse imprint featuring work from noted producers and emerging names. Starting off his side with a nonstandard rhythmic frame, ‘Trappist’ uses the extra beats to build solidity, with reverberating zaps steadily circling around pillars of bass & kicks while uneasy atmospheric washes waft between the other elements. ‘Umami’ reels in the wayward impulses for more traditional techno structures, concentrating on dense, dystopian synth arrangements and subtle changes in percussion to drive it to a haunting conclusion.

A core artist on Richie Hawtin’s 2023 From Our Minds tour whose work has been featured on Glasgow legends Slam’s radio mix series and earned him a pair of EP releases on respected veteran Edit Select’s eponymous, long-running imprint, Declan James’ discography stretches back to 2016 and presents a futuristic, transfixing take on hypnotic, industrial and IDM-leaning techno, often found on his own Voidware label. More space-searching than Cronenbergian bloodbath, ‘Scanners’ applies classic techno ideas in a smooth arrangement for an outward-bound transmission. For the the EP’s title track, we find his dense, dark style in full effect, a murky low end and strange, intermittent echoed snare hits gradually building with bleeps and synth layers to a peak-time intensity even in its decidedly unsquared meter.

Set the Mood with G.A.S.!

For G.A.S., the perfect opening set starts light, rhythmic, and full of swing. The music should feel playful and effortless, something that gets people moving and creates a relaxed atmosphere where the crowd can ease into the night. This part of the night is about comfort and curiosity, drawing listeners in through groove and flow. As the set unfolds, the energy gradually shifts into deeper and darker territory. Here, the DJ can explore textures and contrasts, slowly raising the intensity and building anticipation for what lies ahead. By the end, the dancefloor should be warm, alive, and completely in tune, ready for the next chapter.

The 47th edition of the Set the Mood series features Utrecht-based DJ G.A.S., an artist deeply connected to the city and its nightlife. This connection inspired him to leave a positive musical imprint on the place that shaped him. His love for techno began in Berlin, where the raw and industrial underground scene introduced him to a wide world of unfamiliar sounds. Over time, his style evolved into a blend of thumping techno infused with acoustic, electro, swing-inspired and breaky elements. He often plays at a slower tempo than most techno DJs, placing emphasis on danceability and emotional depth.

Beyond his work as a DJ, G.A.S. is passionate about giving back to the community. As a volunteer host at Birdcage Radio, he supports an open and inclusive music culture. His name, G.A.S., stands for gegeneraliseerde angststoornis (generalized anxiety disorder), a reference he uses to raise awareness and support for mental health. For him, music is a way to express, connect, and create space. Through his sets, he hopes to offer a sense of safety and honesty, both on the dancefloor and in everyday life, by simply being himself and inviting others to do the same.

End of Perception is a Berlin-based techno label co-owned by Viels and Francesco Della Sata, which has featured music by Takaaki Itoh, Ness, Brendon Moeller, Deepbass, and ORBE, amongst others.

Providing the next EP titled 'Destino,' the label head Viels showcases four new and original works.

Originating from near Milan, Viels is an experienced DJ and producer who has played all around Europe alongside DVS1, DJ Nobu, Setaoc Mass, Steve Bicknell, and many more, while also holding a residency at the Acquario event in Milan.

His standout production style has graced imprints such as Bas Mooy's Mord, Oscar Mulero's Warm Up, Psyk's Non Series, Svreca's Semantica, and Edit Select Records, as well as his appearances on End of Perception, and includes collaboration releases with fellow Italian, Pyramidal Decode.

Beginning with "Primo Respiro" and its an ethereal sound, rich in hypnotics and drenched in atmosphere. Cyclical pulses are an underbelly to a staggered kick drum and tense percussion in this heads down groove.

"Movimento Tellurico" has a more upbeat sound yet covered in mystery. Sparse sweeps, bubbling textures, and delayed cymbals create a perfect melting pot of an alluring dystopian aura.

Next up, "Incompleti" turns on the dub vibe, with a satisfying feeling that a subterranean exploration is underfoot. Warm modular bleeps and flickering effects combine with shuffling elements for a deep and spacey trip.

"Destino" is the title track and closer, opting for a more dance floor approach with a raw sound. Using its driving yet restrained rhythm and illusive spirit for a quality sound, it delivers a mesmerising mood.

For the inaugural edition of the Bastardo Electrico Radio series, we thought it fitting to kick it off with a mix from our new resident Mejmi, one of the best DJs emerging from Ireland's thriving electronic underground.. Recorded live at The Pav, Cork City, Ireland supporting Ben Sims on 14/03/2025.

Blending hypnotic, rhythmic techno with spectral atmospheres and old-school influences, MEJMI crafts a sound that honours the roots of the genre while pushing its boundaries. Using vinyl and digital formats, her sets offer immersive journeys that embrace both past and future.

Founder of Club Economy, MEJMI also holds a residency at Bastardo Electrico, one of Ireland’s most respected techno platforms. Her productions have appeared on Harmless Records, Faoi Thalamh, Encrypted, Airtexture, and Delinquent Delivery—showcasing her skill in fusing drive, depth, and atmosphere.
