Be For:

There are two definitions to this EP, the first being literally being “for our time”. In the current era of musicians, like myself from London, people tend crave and look to the states for answers and are quick to criticise the music from our own home. Some may disagree – but I speak from experience. This EP is the project that demonstrates there is hope where we’re from and where I’ve come from and we should unite in that. We all have a story to tell. This project is about Truth, Love and Passion.

Before:

The second meaning of this project is its nostalgic presence. This being a story telling project, it is filled with reflecting on situations and life experiences. The whole theme sonically is driven by reminiscence; I wanted to bring the same feeling or something close to the feeling, you felt when Hip Hop was at its peak of greatness and what is said actually meant something. I was born in 1993, and with this project I wanted to give people that same feeling of when music and Hip Hop was appreciated and respected by the masses in the 90's, and bring that feeling back to my home city and the world.

"First off, after doing the Que and Meek Mill remixes, I wanted to remix an artist that was more in the vein of the kind of hip hop that I do. What better person than one of my best friends on Earth and fellow C7 crew member, Del. After selecting the song, and getting the OK from Dan the Automator to give it a whirl, I realized it had 4 verses. I didn't want to cut any verses, so to keep it interesting, I decided to remix it in a medley type of way- using a different sound style for each verse. For verse one I did hip-hop style, a musical sample with a live drum swing on the drum programming, kinda dramatic, a lot like the original song in it's vibe. Verse 2 I did a glitch-hop swingy style with all hand made sounds,  a lot of work there. Verse three I did a club/hyphy bass style, straight up bay area origin style. Verse 4 was a reprise of the first verse, but with me playing synths instead, to show of some of my musical training from my youth, no samples. I like the way the remix keeps moving and changing, even inbetween verses. I hope people can get into it. The workload was like making four remixes at once. After Del told me he really liked it, I felt good about how it may be received. Enjoy" -Plee

Helmed by world-renowned drum & bass and reggae DJ Liondub, the Liondub Internatonal imprint has made massive strides since it's inception. Releasing a steady stream of top-shelf material from a growing stable of producers and vocalists, it has become a go-to source for emerging, top-notch music at the nexus of reggae, dubstep and drum & bass sounds. Sugar Minott is a hard act to follow, but there could be none better than Judah Eskender Tafari. Coming up at the height of roots reggae music, Judah first performed as a musician at 12 Tribes shows in Jamaica and later recorded his first big releases at Studio 1. Beginning with "Jah Light", he went on to record other hit songs like "Rastafari Tell You", "Always Trying" and "Just Another Day". These tracks and many more have gained him international notoriety in the past 30 years and lead up to his work with Ras Kush's Black Redemption label. In all of his music Ras Kush delivers a positive message of Faith, Hope and Charity. 

NYC based keyboardist, engineer, and producer Victor Axelrod, aka Ticklah, has been a continual and integral part of the NYC music scene for over a decade. He is a founding member of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Antibalas and the Easy Star All-Stars with whom he continues to record and perform. In the past several years he has recorded keys for Mark Ronson, D'Angelo, Estelle, MIA as well as the Amy Winehouse. In addition to Liondub45 he has released his own work on the NYC reggae label Easy Star. Wether its a dubbed-out Sharon Jones remix or an original groove built form the ground up, Ticklah's tracks are always captivating and rich with sonic detail.  

Originally released as the b-side to "Life" on Black Redemption, Land Of Confusion was voiced at Ticklah's studio and released in 2007. Three years later, Ticklah has arranged a new instrumental track around the vocal, adding his own signature out-board effects, percussion and keyboard harmonies to the conscious lyrics of the "Commander". The resulting track and version are a musical gem; melding the dub experimentation of Creation Steppers with the inimitable spirit of Studio 1 and Soul Syndicate. It's no surprise then that Jah Shaka has offered steady support for this track on his soundsystem time and time again! Three years in the making and well worth the wait, Land of Confusion is a must have for all fans of dub reggae and roots music worldwide.
