been so busy working on other projects that i accidentally set myself a new challenge this year

thanks to a deeply unhealthy series of all nighters, the 6th edition of my annual production mix is a collection of tracks and sketches i put together in the last week. exported my last track for the mix two hours ago, recorded straight after and just had a lil sleep deprived cry as the last tune played out 😭

For the fifth instalment of The HFT Mix series we look to Hong Kong via Berlin as we welcome Klasse Recordings co-founder Mr Ho.

As co-founder of Klasse Recordings Mr Ho has showcased a penchant for wonky acid and warped techno, welcoming the likes of Dungeon Acid, DJ Fett Burger, Cardopusher and Fjaak. As a solo artist and DJ however in 2016 alone he partnered up with Luca Lozano to produce one of our favourite records of the year in the 'Visions of Rhythm' EP and, well, recorded one of our favourite mixes of the year too in this little beauty. 

Clocking in at 90 minutes compiled with the HFT 'parties in mind' as Mr Ho moves from latin disco with Elkin & Nelson's 'Jibaro', Japanese funk from Tatsuro Yamashita and a few classics from the Mr Ho camp thrown in there for good measure too. Enjoy.

DJ LOTR MIX FOR PLANET FUN

Winner of a song contest run by a German underwear and bathing suit company in 1984. The prize was the production of a song with professional musicians - namely this very song. Judging by her rapping skills, the competition must have been a little on the weak side of things... 😆 It needed some seriously cheesy Schlager bits removed and more of the electronic good stuff. Enjoy!

Amsterdam has been graced with a fearsome array of fabulous selectors and disc jockeys in recent times, the city is abuzz with experimental music and talent. 

Orpheu The Wizard has been a pivotal figure in the development of the scene, crucially helping to nurture new faces through his key role as a co founder of Redlight radio - a distinctive platform which has acted as a gateway and an open door to a new wave of music, producers and dj's. 

His own background is well versed, he's earnt his stripes and played the long game building a respectable array of musical knowledge and selective talent which he uses to entice and delight crowds across Europe and beyond. Eclectic, far reaching and multi purpose - his sets often run wild across a sprawling spectrum of sound. 

This year he will play at Love International festival, an appearance which should not be missed.

Olefonken is a musical savant. A musician, an artist, a producer, a DJ, a label owner and a promoter, he embraces and works in every faction of music. He first started making music, playing in various bands in school, and eventually formed hubbabubbaklubb. While working in that group Olefonken has concurrently established a career as a solo artist with two EPs Quaaludes and Till Hanne finding the ears of Norwegian listeners and audiences abroad.

A new mix I put together to capture the spirit of the world class ambassador of dance music aka Phil Asher aka Restless Soul / Phlash. Having had a brotherly 25 year long music & friendship with him, I thought it was only right to play music that reminded of him without playing his tracks, which I will do on my radio show on Sunday 31st 7pm live on globalsoulradio.com.  This set features leftfield vintage Afro, African, Afrobeat, Afro Funk, Afro / Techno Dub, Roots House, Disco and Jazz Funk to remind you of the music taste and vibe of brother Phil. He knew all the classics but was also a curve ball DJ, throwing random yet super obscure quirky tracks, just to surprise the dancefloor, whether you liked it or not, he was a real DJ not a functional juke box one. He was a total artist at work who lived, breathed and shone music daily. Enjoy, share and keep the legacy of Phil Asher alive, whether you knew not him or not.
