For this track I used the famous sample used in J Dilla's "Bye" off of Donuts. I really got an appreciation for how Dilla chopped his samples during this project.


On this day, 45 years ago, over 6,000 miles apart, two legends were born. James Dewitt Yancey, aka J Dilla, and Jun Seba, aka Nujabes, would go on to inspire millions of beatmakers with their own innovative and groundbreaking styles. These two tracks are a tribute to these trailblazers who revolutionized instrumental hip hop.

On this track, there were no samples used. I took the chords progression of one of my favorite Nujabes tracks, Tsurugi no mai, and recreated it, then built layers around it in my own style.
