You may not be familiar with the name @ironsoulmusic, but if you’ve been a dubstep fan you’ll know the producer by his other alias — @kromestar. The south London producer (real name Ricky Kalsi) first appeared under the moniker back in ’05, for his more grime-leaning work. but has received plaudits across the board for his low-end mining cuts as Kromestar. including ‘Kalawanji’, ‘Surgery’ and ‘Here We Come’, as well as having appeared on Om Unit’s ‘Cosmology’ series. More recently, the prolific beatmaker has been dropping a slew of instrumentals (the heavily-spun ‘Carbon/Banter’ 12”) that showcase the grimier side of his sound, only with an expansive and highly melodic feel, and always adventurous. He’s pieced together a 100% production mix for us in anticipation of his album dropping — touching on grime, dubstep and bass.

Fresh off being crowned as one of our top labels of 2018, TT (@tobago-tracks) is continuing its industrious and impressive form into 2019 with a new EP from South London-based artist hmurd (@hmurdoch). 

The UK outlet has earned respected status for its dedication to pushing a vanguard of experimental producers making music on their own terms, and hmurd’s three-track outing ‘Boycott Ethical Consumption’ bolsters the imprint’s next-level repertoire. 

EP closer ‘Shepard’s Delight’ is an intense, compelling club concoction that places you in the swirling frenzy of 3am with a clarity of thought declaring: “this bangs”. Piercing tones are grounded in earth-shattering bass, raising adrenaline, before collapsing into a chaotic catharsis of clattering percussion and demented church chimes.
