Our dream is utopian: to separate music-making from markets and create a just system of pure artistic meritocracy.


Odradek Records is not just a new record label. Odradek Records is the first wedge of a larger project, proposing a new way to produce and enjoy classical music. We think that the current model undermines the true essence and significance of music. We think that a model centered on just a few big names, the great concert halls, a limited repertoire that is necessarily restricted by the bonds of popularity--a model that makes its selection of new young performers from the anti-musical system of competitions, the success of which is often obtained through extravagant histrionics rather than the correctness or subtlety of interpretation--and finally, a model that is subject to the exploitation of the marketplace, and which obliges the majority of musicians to pay enormous sums to record CDs, for which the profits then go largely to the record company, thus depriving many very worthy but not wealthy musicians from the possibility of recording--is not only a model that is far from art, but is a model that even itself is in crisis. 

Ideally, music just as other primary goods, should not fall subject to the markets. We know that in a strict sense, this is utopian, but it is precisely this tension towards an unreachable utopia that guides our project.

Odradek Records is a non-profit seeking label. Once production and distribution expenses are recuperated, all of our proceeds go directly to the artist. Odradek Records selects its artists solely through the criterion of utmost quality of the recording and the interest of the proposed program. We don’t want to exclude, but rather include: we are not interested if you have won important competitions or not, neither if you have performed in important halls or signed with major labels. We are not interested in your age or where you come from. The only thing that interests us is whether you play your instrument to a very high and professional level. With us you can record Chopin, but you can also record: Berio, Scelsi, Copland, Carter, Webern, Schoenberg, Ligeti, Kurtag, Ives, and many others.

Our recording studio avails itself of the greatest technical instruments available today.

The distribution of our CDs is guided by an innovative criterion of transparency and flexibility in setting prices.
The rights of the composers and of the artist are protected by Creative Commons copyright (sometimes referred to as “copyleft” policy) because we want to render legal and free all those things that almost everybody already illegally does anyway.

We consider that the distribution of our music is not a one way street, but instead a dialogue. Only the presence of an active public gives true life to an artistic product. Write us. Odradek Records does not only produce CDs. We are convinced that the truest fruition of music happens in live concerts. For this reason we organize itinerant music festivals, moving from city to city, to promote our disks and music.

And finally, a word about our name: we borrow it from Kafka. Like the worried family man in Kafka’s tale, we are also worried. We are worried that music might become always more and more an odradek, an indefinable and incomprehensible being, whose voice sounds falsely, like the voice of one who is “without lungs”, a being without form, disturbingly replicating that which was once alive, that can plastically become whatever is wished for by those who posses the instruments of power and control. We wish for the cage-like railing surrounding the man of Kafka’s drawing to become instead an instrument to play - we would like to transform our prison into our liberty. 

We would like to restore music to its true role, that of artwork, and restore musical interpretation to its true function, the only one that opens itself towards the possibility of a future: that of a field of research.

Being anonymous music aficionado, music professional or a sexy Pacha girl, there are two things you really should know about Matthew Hoag: meeting him in person is always fun - but joining him for the night clubbing could be a life changing experience. This vivid, warm, cheerful, friendly bon vivant isn’t just one of those guys who want to play music. He’s spent years to explore the technical and business aspect of it and he’s always intrigued with the combinations of different art forms that full it. Recently he has came to the conclusion, that no matter what, club life is nothing if not expression of artistic mind made in sincere human interactions, so he’ll be focusing on that with his new initiative Dice Man in the years to come.

Matthew’s creativity provides the best results in the sun, salty water and all year long summer environment. Or in his own words: "I am Mediterranean by breed and Latino by soul. I am a passionate guy." He experienced his first club night as a 12 years old boy and instantly fell in love with the concept of spreading the positive vibe among people with the music. His passion for warm tech-house has taken him to a non-stop around the globe journey, performing in countries such as Brazil (Experience Festival), Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Serbia, Greece, Austria, Germany, Belgium (I Love Techno) Luxembourg, USA (WMC), UK, France Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Macedonia as well as his favourite place to be - Ibiza.

“I was born and raised in a pocket sized Slovenia and lived for a while in a cosmopolitan New York, but nothing beats Ibiza. Here it really feels like home. Everything’s perfect: I like the language, food, the warmth of this open minded people, beautiful nature, rich nightlife, here’s no taboos in sex or the way people live and act. Ibiza is the greatest club culture Mecca in the World. And it’s the only place where, no matter how big the whole industry, music as an art form still matters. Here, people really appreciate creativity and artists and all hedonism aside they still share the right values. 

Matthew spent the last two years on road with his fellow countryman Umek as his tour manager and warm up deejay. "It was a once in a lifetime experience. I’ve learnt a lot, especially about the business aspect of music and club culture, got to know many interesting people and seen some amazing places. But on this account I’ve neglected the art in my music, especially the production." So he returned into the studio, got back to the drawing board and started working on the fresh output that already shows some results. "In the music I’m looking for the peace and tranquility. In the past I’ve allowed to myself too many compromises as an artist. Although I’m a tech-house deejay and I can adapt to both genres, techno or house, I’ve neglected the warm, organic, vocal sound. At some point my sets became too aggressive, so I decided to step of the train, gather my thoughts and start all over again."

Being less and less intrigued by the business aspect of the music Matthew focuses on art and people. His Lovable Fairy Tale project is a unique open source organization, which includes a label of the same name but is mainly operating as an inter-artists networking platform. "I don’t want to constrain the collaborating artists in any way, artists need freedom to express themselves, but especially less experienced ones need a little bit of help or a small push along the way and that’s what the Dice Man is all about - socializing and sharing ideas.

M.D. Morris (b. 1982 – ), writer, music producer, community activist, mentor.

After repeated thoughts of abortion, due to societal and family pressures, his mother gave birth to him on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, Kansas, where she was a sophomore majoring in Psychology and Child Development. 

Soon after she graduated and married, they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Like most black children, he never knew or seen his father. So he looked to his mother's husband for love and guidance. But instead, he found himself entering a world of malicious acts of child abuse.

With the consistent mental and physical abuse by his stepfather, he found a place where he could be loved and accepted…the streets of Milwaukee. The hustlers, the winos, the pimps and the prostitutes, the drug dealers and the drug-addicted and any other lost soul that walked the ghetto…became his father…became his next direction.

Though the street life consumed most of his soul and mind, he still found time for education. Nicknamed Braniac, the kids in High School ridiculed and teased him for his academic progress and standing. Chess Club. Perfect attendance. Honor student. At the end of his sophomore year, he surrendered to the peer pressure and chose a new direction…crime. But he still graduated from High School and was accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. 

In 2004, he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration and minors in Marketing and International Finance.

After graduating from college, he realized that there was no real job security in America. He felt that in order to survive, you had to look at what gifts and talents God gave you and use them to create business and financial empowerment. On a trip to visit his mother in Orlando, Florida, he decided Orlando would be the city where he would build his kingdom. He created Phamous Models, an image branding and marketing company that specialized in creating “industry buzz” for people in the arts and entertainment industry. (Phamous Models is divided into five divisions: Films, Modeling, Music, Publishing and Merchandising, which also includes a non-profit organization called, “We Will Never Forget” Foundation for The Child Abused and The Neglected.). he set out to control and dominate the arts and entertainment market with a set of “rules” and a code of ethics similar to a military strategist.

In 2010, Morris began writing the controversial semi-autobiography, "I Did It My Way: The Prelude". The work originated from his life living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

Encouraged to expand the work into a full-length narrative and feature film, Morris produced a 3,153 page manuscript that became widely criticized for it's violent and glamorization of street violence and justice. 

Critics praised the vivid realism of "The Prelude" and favorably compared Morris to James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, and Richard Wright. Like them, Morris was hailed as a powerful, relentless chronicler of the brutal reality of African American life in northern urban cities. Additionally, "I Did It My Way: The Prelude" was held up as an American success story, the narrative of one who beat the odds of his childhood and saved his own life.

With well over 10,000 written pieces of poetry and lyric sheets, not including seventeen novels and twenty screenplays and the mind of a business tyrant, he feels he has a substantial amount of ammunition to go to war with anybody in the entertainment and publishing industries. 

From almost being an aborted fetus, to an abusive childhood, which led to a violent life of crime, M.d. Morris has emerged from the depths of hell with a vision and a plan. He has used his stumbling blocks as stepping-stones. His character, his words, his love for poor people and his subject matter are emotionally infectious.

D.J.J has one main goal, to be recognized in his community as a leader who did everything within his power to make a difference. I guess you can say that he is close to achieving that goal.
The best way to explain D.J.J's music is that it's prevelant, relatable, powerful, motivational, inspirational, and empowering with a message of hope. Joseph's experience with bullying inspired him to touch on the topic in his music and go to different schools to speak about his experience and share his music that touches on his experience and his feelings on the topic itself. By putting himself out in the open, D.J.J has gained the respect of his peers, other artists he admires, and community organizations in and out of Auburn. With every song that D.J.J creates, he always gives a piece of him to the fans.
In a lot of cases, the only way to really enjoy an artist's music is if you can relate and connect with what they're saying in their songs cause of the experiences that they're speaking about in their songs. That is exactly what D.J.J aims to do with each song he puts together. Putting himself out in the battlefield and making himself vulnerable is how D.J.J has gained the love and respect of many people inside and outside of his hometown of Auburn. A lot of people look up to D.J.J because he stays true to himself, he's honest in his music, and he's always aiming to do the best he can to make his dreams a reality.

Jamieson is a UK rapper/producer born and bred in London currently based in NYC. Jamieson was an official SXSW artist in 2013, has been featured by outlets such as MTVIggy.com, TheSource.com, XXLMag.com,DJSemtex.com, etc over the last 4 years.
