Akriza & Māh Ze Tār’s full collaborative album is out on Gravitas Recordings July 21st after three stand out singles and a journey through ancient sound.  These two artists worked together to blend ancient traditional music of the East with the newest sounds of the underground bass music scene.  Showcasing both their sounds in an exciting new way, this release is a true piece of art and history of ancient cultures.  Both artists have been heavily in the bass scene with their touring and production, and this album is something special and the first collaboration between these two.

Invocation opens the album with an epic ancient harmony of voices, bringing in nature sounds and unreal live strings from the talented Mah Ze Tar.  No drums or bass, just an epic build that seamlessly blends into the next track.  A Call To Sama continues from the intro track while bringing in deep bass, enchanting vocals and a minimal drum beat to start the flow of the album.  An epic build into the second drop which incorporates heavy bass growls and a fusion of the ancient sounds and modern day bass music.  Better Start Praying brings the energy even higher with enchanting easter flute sounds and a heavier beat that you can’t help but move to.  It follows the same concept as the previous track, adding in dirtier bass growls and traditional bass music sounds in the last drop.  Indra’s Dream combines these styles and immediately showcases a blend of synthesized ancient sounds with the traditional elements found in the culture.  Cosmic Odissi builds with tribal rhythms and live string instruments following similar sounds of their previous releases, dropping into a massive kick pattern and 808 hits to get the body moving.  Large bass growls enter and transform the track into a heavy hitting trappy beat that you can’t help but move to.  This Is Raga brings down the energy into a beautiful interlude of ancient singing and faint strings in the background.  It begins and ends with a vinyl start and end effect, almost as if receiving this transmission to take a break from this new sound and showcase the roots of the culture.  Where You Are, Now flips this style showcased in the previous track into a huge world bass track that is the perfect title track of the album.  It opens with psychedelic sounds of the Sitar and live string instruments that immediately put the listener in a trance, making for an epic build that drops into a perfect bass heavy rhythm that you can’t help but move too.  They continue incorporating the original instruments in a flawless way while still pushing the heavier sound design and booming bass.  Epirus opens with beautiful string instruments and quickly expands into a catchy beat and immersive instruments that almost feel like a full band performing.  Vocal chants come in and transport the listener into a tribal ritual with endless ear candy and perfect flow.  Just when you think it is over, it breaks down into the original strings and slams in massive growls and transforms this enchanting tribal beat into a massive drop.  Eternal Healer closes the album with the heavy hitting bass they have been showcasing, but at a slower speed and perfectly teleports the listeners into a state of peace.  The ancient sounds shine through in breakdowns and is a final journey through their blend of past and present.

All of these tracks feel like a call & response with the ancient cultures and modern electronic bass music style that we know so well.  Each track goes on its own journey through both styles and seamlessly blends together for a special kind of listening experience.

KIWA’s Dystopic Sci-fi is a collection of moods from a bygone era, before the digital revolution became a central part of our everyday lives. The album takes its musical influence from the last decades of the 20th century - ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s - which is also the reason it was produced, mixed and mastered using analog equipment.  KIWA has been a veteran on sound design and electronic music over the past 2 decades and has released with more than 20 labels worldwide over his career.  He has been laying low on music for the past two years perfecting his craft and wanting to bring something different into the current world of electronic music. These tracks were originally written between 2014 and 2022 and truly give us that nostalgic feel that we crave for in music.

A massive 15 track album, this release truly blends all styles and ideas of electronic music, while still staying cohesive under the retro nostalgia they all envelop.  Across The Globe (feat. Jackson Whalan) kickstarts the album off to a rowdy star with glitch hop goodness and rap, acid bass and funky breakbeats throughout with a high energy banger.  G’s n Things keeps the glitchy funk and leans more into the breakbeats and the retro influences, truly sounding like a soundtrack to a heist movie.  Metaphor (feat. Suspira and Bea Aino) continues the breakbeats but adds beautiful catchy female vocals, this one will get stuck in your head and is another perfect movie soundtrack and teleports us back in time.  Sjuka Dagar Revisited (feat. Arosa Ensemble) picks up the BPM and is a funky drum & bass track with live horns and synths filling the soundscape, beautiful vocals from Arosa and a fast pace hard to not move to.  Just A Hack has repetitive AI vocals and is a fun stab at META and social media, truly reminding us of Knife Party’s Internet Friends in the best way possible.  Carbon brings in a four on the floor house beat and funky bass and old school synths that instantly teleport us into a Tron world.  Point Blank  is another high energy drum & bass track full of cinematic builds and high energy that is ready to get the dancefloor moving.  Pixels To Eternity (feat. Manos Libres) slows down the tempo for a laidback groove with Manos on the vocals with wet bass and a slow breakbeat groove to nod along to.  Back To The Future is the funkiest track on the album and is full of classic retro synths and catchy vocoder lyrics from the classic track “Time” from Pink Floyd, truly bringing us back to the future.  Paradox has an epic build and brings in a four on the floor g-house drop with huge stabbing basses and truly brings us back to the early rave days.  Mirage brings back the breakbeat into a heavy banger that is impossible not to move to.  Fade To Night opens with an epic arpeggiated synth into a perfect breakbeat flow and beautiful pads and keys, truly a track you need for a night-time drive. Chunky Bit Of Luck starts as a beautiful synth driven slow breaks track and quickly turns into a glitchy heavy anthem filled with horns and bass.  No Games is another more synth driven track that pulls back from the heavier styles and back to the funky roots of some of the first tracks on the release.  Made Up My Mind (feat. Manos Libres and Tim Duster) closes the album with beautiful piano and a laid back breakbeat groove full of live guitar and brass instruments, a perfect closing to the journey through KIWA’s sound.
