Hailing from Long Island, New York Zel Omar has become a success story in his own way. Since the age of 10 he has developed skills as a lyricist, producer and audio engineer. He started recording music at age 13 under the guidance of DJ Johnny Juice at a local studio. It was there he learned how to make beats and engineer for himself and others. After graduating from Full Sail University with a Bachelor in Recording Arts he has expanded his potential within the music industry.
 
Omar specializes in Hip Hop & R&B however he experiments with other genres like Pop to widen his audience. His college experience has also allowed him to become his own director and editor for multiple outlets of entertainment within his circle.
 
Zel Omar has not only accomplished that but has also become an excelling independent businessman in the past couple of years. In 2014, Omar established a media production company called Domination, which specializes in providing aspiring artists with services like studio time, video production, photo-shoots and more.

One of the greatest things about Hip-Hop has always been being able to watch artists grind with diligence and determination with hopes of being offered a record deal and/or an opportunity to build their career.  Over the past 25 years, The Source’s Unsigned Hype column has a rich history of shining a light on that particular facet of Hip-Hop culture, and with this Unsigned Hype page, we plan on continuing that tradition.
