With a passion for disco, italo, Chicago house and Detroit techno Patrizio Cavaliere aka Rocco Universal has been collecting music for the last two decades and it’s these musical influences that have shaped his raw, tripped out disco/house production sound. ‘Tiny Islands’, his debut release for Leng, is a real melting pot of rich melodies over a thick baseline and is a clear example of Rocco’s passion for the dancefloor.

With something as multi layered and deep as the original track it needed Ray Mang to add his trademark sound to the remix. Here he goes straight for the jugular drawing out some of the loops and percussion leaving no mistake as to when this should be dropped on the dancefloor.

After REBOLLEDO’s successful debut album SUPER VATO (CÓMEME CD LP 01) from two thousand eleven, his highly praised mix CD MOMENTO DRIVE (KOMPAKT CD 117) from two thousand fourteen, and all-around mayhem during his adventures as one half of the Pachanga Boys, Xalapa's finest returns with his second solo album MONDO ALTERADO: a recollection of moments and experiences from recent years, colorful mnemonics encompassing the brightest and the darkest. The result is a kind of soundtrack for a movie that doesn't exist, a sonic journey designed like a mixtape that faithfully reflects Rebolledo's background as DJ and producer. Nine tracks connect for one overarching narrative, sharing elements, motives, details, as they blend together. Jake Fairley aka Fairmont has some timeless classics in his discography; 'Gazebo', released on Border Community in 2005 is his most successful track ever although he has a long & great discography. Now we have his debut release on the label. 'Shadows Of Mine' is the lead track for this release due to a monster synth line and a well-treated vocal sample, a peak-time track for 21st century dj-sets. We are glad to have the one and only Rebolledo for the remix duties with a post-modern hi-NRG influenced revision. Completing the package 'Impasse' and 'Trivial', epic & melodic techno tunes which completes this release in an excellent way.

A crowd of vibrantly colored fish move with the current, their numbers are enormous, their movements in unison.
Suddenly out of the darkness a barracuda cuts through the crowd, taking out four or five before disappearing into the shadows.  The crowd moves on as if nothing happened, quickly closing ranks where the missing ones swam only seconds before.
Fish disappear, darkness envelopes us.  Cold and lifeless where light has never penetrated... Five thousand feet, ten thousand.  Deeper, where only strange, self-illuminating echoniderms move eerily through the currents.
Then suddenly we hear a voices...

PRÈMIÉRE: Superpitcher - Hiding [Hippie Dance]

Following a first vinyl appearance on You And Your Hippie Friends’ “A Very Nice Combinado Volume Dos” (YAYHF 03) earlier this year, Mexican producer PAULOR aka Paulo Rodriguez gets ready for his first solo outing with Hippie Dance’s sister label.

Curated by Rebolledo, the imprint has established an impressive talent pool within only three releases, including both veteran and upcoming talent such as Sebastien Bouchet, El Güero, Zombies In Miami, Beyou, Roman Flügel and more. It’s a testament to the label’s chiselled vision that an idiosyncratic and diverse group such as this is able to sustain individual approaches to electronic music while weaving a coherent sonic tapestry from all its ingredients, the whole quite organically being more than the sum of its parts.

Now, it’s up to PAULOR to flesh out his own sound cosmos on You And Your Hippie Dance’s latest 12” drop, presenting a concoction of salt-caked beats, riffing guitars and flexing bass that evokes a sense for space and untouched, psychedelic landscapes not unlike Rebolledo’s very own desert funk vignettes. After “La Race” (his contribution to “A Very Nice Combinado Volume Dos”) and the “Discótico Desértico” remix for Rebolledo’s “Mondo Re-Alterado” (HIPPIE DANCE 10 LP) started making the rounds in tastemaker DJ sets, PAULOR caught a major moment of inspiration while performing at Monterrey’s TOPAZdeluxe - which lead to the husky, hypnotic cut PAULOR’S BLUES, pièce de résistance and headstone in one, as it set the scene and also birthed enough follow-up tracks to naturally grow into a cohesive, full-blown EP.

From echo-drenched, beatless opener NEBLINA to the percussion-infused intrigue of DELIRIO EN CARRETERA, the athletic pop minimalism of AMIGOS or the slow burn of brooding mystery shuffle LUCES CALLING, PAULOR creates a unique, atmospheric sound panorama that excites minds and bodies alike. Adorned with a starry night sky, the record’s cover artwork couldn’t be more fitting – it’s a dominant musical vista in PAULOR’s work, whose vantage point is not necessarily a specific place (although all tracks were recorded in Xalapa), but a feeling of exquisite duality: the feeling of being lost between the stars, lonely and connected at the same time, a speck of dust and the center of the universe.

Rebolledo’s YOU AND YOUR HIPPIE FRIENDS imprint grows its groove footprint on international dance floors with the full-length debut of GÜERO @guerogroove, the latest vinyl outing from the Hippie Dance sister label and also its first fully fledged album project. To attentive hippie friends, the artist name should ring a big, funky bell – one that sounds exactly like the cut “Convertible Ride” from the notorious “A Very Nice Combinado Volume Uno” 12” release (YAYHF 01).

Back then, our hero was travelling under the somewhat more convoluted “El Güero Fresa” monicker, but has since dropped some of those conceptual pounds in an effort to reach maximum sleekness. In the same vein, his debut album is a testament to ultimate funk-a-ficiency, digging deep into fizzy arpeggios and chunky basslines - and the occasional guitar cameo, giving tracks such as bubbling synth opener ELEKTRONIQUE, the neon-lit NIGHT CRUISING, bouncing electro disco roller ALTO FINAL or the programmatic SPACE DRIFTER just that little extra riff.

GUITAR MAYHEM, however, is anything but – you’ll discover a pretty dank bouncer and certainly not the squealing meltdown one would expect. TECHNO MINIMAL doesn’t do what it says on the tin, either, opting for an energetic bass ‘n’ organ workout instead. By now, you’ll begin to understand why the album’s called MY WAY MY RULES: GÜERO takes whatever sonic path he desires, no matter what - which is precisely why he chimes so well with YOU AND YOUR HIPPIE FRIENDS’s steadily expanding motley crew of rave misfits and studio drop-outs. The way of the hippie is indeed a mysterious one.

Rebolledo explains - "Following some now cult releases on Multi Culti, Turbo Recordings (with the much-acclaimed “MZ”) and his recent LP “Lotos Land” on Japanese imprint Endless Flight, our favourite East-Berlin born Sascha Funke is back with a record on Hippie Dance’s sister label - You And Your Hippie Friends.

I guess that some have you noticed my obsession with Sascha Funke’s music over the past years since it is an essential part of my DJ sets. After taking a pause in his solo work in order to focus his attention on his amazing band project Saschienne together with Julienne Dessagne (AKA Fantastic Twins, also his partner in life), he came back with a really cool EP on Kompakt Records which I played over and over and left me wanting more. Being close friends gave me the luxury of having access to his material before others and when I would visit the coolest couple in Berlin, Sascha would always play me his new tunes in the car while rolling through the city. Every time I would ask for those tracks to play out and in the club, people that I would play with would often ask who was behind them, as it happened with TIGA one night in Cologne, which eventually led to Sascha’s music being released on Turbo Recordings and Multi Culti the following months. 

Now I finally got the chance and honour to release a Sascha Funke EP on our own humble label… ACATENANGO. Like every time, it all started with me visiting Berlin, Sascha playing his new material while cruising around on board of his German car, me getting in trance while listening to it, asking for it and playing it right away in my next sets.

Three super cool tracks, all very different from each other but somehow connected with the inimitable Funke touch. Powerful yet elegant, hypnotic yet fun, brutal yet sophisticated.

Already a well-established presence on the outlandish fringes of experimental, alternative and dance music, celebrated Israeli duo Red Axes make a surprise left-turn onto Phantasy with a three-track 12”, ‘Sipoor’. Unsurprisingly, the results are as pleasingly out-there as the occasion requires. 

Following on from last year’s self-released LP, ‘The Beach Goths’, ‘Sipoor’ immediately announces the Axes’ uncompromising return to the front and centre of the dancefloor with the raw, provocative ‘Bad Time Story’. Brazen, brash acid triggers this particular tale, as Red Axes briskly modulate their way through a ruff, tuff but never less than musical landscape of 303s and 808s. 

‘Sipoor’ takes a more gradual approach to building offbeat rave tension, featuring an unknown male using his native tongue to request some kind of house, some kind of techno and some sort of release. His wish (and we hope, yours) is the Axes’ command, as the music goes deep before seamlessly unfolds around a throbbing bassline and a playful, familiar keyboard sample, beckoning feet to the dancefloor and perhaps tongues ever so slightly to cheeks. 

Concluding the 12”, ‘Teroof’ takes each of Red Axes’ signature ingredients - deeply rhythmic EBM-inspired drums, spiralling electronics, unapologetically odd vocal distortions - and reconstructs them amid what sounds like the Monaco Grand Prix, as high-velocity motors speed past the soundscape, kicking up some serious dust.
