About this journey :
As we are letting go off old beliefs, old paradigms and old system, we are seeing the structure of the old world breaking broken down in front of our eyes. The last year or so has shown us the things that do not work anymore on this world, giving us the opportunity to go inwards and find the truth about who we are. Sometimes scary and challenging, as we are facing the unknown. Yet exciting and beautiful cause we are given the opportunity to create a new world more beautiful than we have ever seen before.
Music is timeless and endless and overcomes any challenges. A universal language that no matter the circumstances always gives us a ground for hope, connection and release. With this journey I wish to help you remember the truth of who you really are. That life is simple and we do not need a lot. Getting lost in music and spacing away to other dimensions not bound by time and space is what I wish to pass on to you.  Have fun and enjoy the ride, sending you a big big hug, much love,

Umayyad : Arabic noun meaning being a member of a dynasty of caliphs based in Damascus that ruled from A.D. 661 to 750. Old photomontage with me and my dog back in India.

Here’s Kantocast 017: Vecdaud - “Tapetum Lucidum”!

Salih Gafer(Vecdaud) is a producer and live performer of electronic music. He is also a researcher in Sonic Arts at the Centre (MIAM) of ITU where he is focusing on audio programming and immersive audio practices. He started his career as a producer/DJ back in 2014, and he co-founded the electronica duo Ikaru in 2017.

In 2020 he announced a new solo project and named this endeavor Vecdaud, releasing two singles: Mongun & Unulla. In 2022 he released his debut EP Sirkupu via Kanto Records. A rework followed this EP to Martin Kohlstedt’s track GOL. Lastly, he released two singles (Yuva&Gaye) to announce his second solo EP Sunozan & to launch his new independent recordlabel, Soma Tune.

*What pushed you towards music production?
I wasn’t directly born into a world that is hyper-connected to the internet but I am one of those people who saw the transition from dusty streets to website links, blogs, and social media. Since I’m 6-7 years old I’m interacting with a computer where I discovered sound is a medium that deepens whatever you are up to. To me, at first, this thing that I was “up to” was computer games. It is where I learn to install files, crack software, and collect illegal audio files. (Surely I avoid these now but back then, these were the "normal".) I started collecting music to make playlists while I played games. Then, these collections found their way into portable music players. I enjoyed sharing my personal curation with my peers. Then, someday a friend who is enthusiastic about hip-hop beats introduced me to the digital audio workstation named Reason. This changed everything. I remember my first automation where I manipulated a simple filter cutoff, I was so impressed. To this day, this ability to shape sounds to express my ideas, my feelings, and being able to build a narrative with it like the language itself... this shakes me up. So, what fuels my artistic path is still the enthusiasm of this child. I see, I think, I do, I reflect, I repeat. 

* Do you think music interconnects with culture?
Yes, inevitably. I think the milieu we live in shapes our output broadly. With the age of the internet, this milieu became larger but still, we are in the early adoption phase. Regarding the effect of it on my production, I either try to isolate myself from certain narratives that I think I shouldn’t reflect, or I alternate within narratives where I found the meaning of life. Then, I try to melt these influences I've got from my environment to a point of idiosyncrasy. This gives me a ground to express my inner voice freely and allows me to reprogram my reality if I think it is a necessary thing to do.

* Do you get inspired by any other form of art?
Surely. I often have fun mixing art forms which is becoming easier each day with new computational tools. This inspires me to focus on my primary thrill, sound, in new ways.

* What makes a set a good one?
Selection, reinterpretation, engagement.

* What’s the process you follow when bringing tunes together?
Instinctively I plan ahead. Although I don’t think anything is out of tune at any time, I genuinely try to make my mixes "in tune". Also, I stretch the tempo of a given track around +/- 10-12 BPMs at maximum. I care about this because I perform with Ableton Live and to me, beyond this space, audio files start to reflect too much that they are in manipulation of some sort. Other than these technical facets, I care about my narrative a lot. To me, “a good set” should have distinct “chapters” instead of the feeling of the same track repeating for 3-4 hours. Therefore, I read the circumstance that I will interact with, then I start to build points of stress and resolution around it.

* What would you like to say about your podcast?
This podcast contains a blend of some original material and material I have edited specially for Kantocast listeners. If it “talks” to you, don’t just pass by, express what you heard. Loves!

It has been such a journey we started with the rāga saga about 2 years back with @ackssek bringing us #1 still so happy about that ^^ since then we have had some of the best names from all over the world on this series...

2 YEARS MONADA BRAHMA | San Miguel ft. LaniRose | Psychedelic Masked Ball

The Oddness is the project of Melbourne producer and performer Warwick Ferguson. The sound of the Oddness is Downtempo yet energetic, with punchy tribal drums and huge bass lines wrapped around the long slow burning structures of progressive house.
The Oddness Launched his live set in 2018 and has since performed at some of Australia’s premium festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Let Them Eat Cake and ChiWowWah Town. The set is full of improvisation and can go anywhere from laidback and melancholy through to a chunky, driving gut punch. Recently he has been joined by Multi Instrumentalists Dylan Jarred and Timmus, performing as a 3-piece band.
His first release came in early 2018 on Uone’s label Beat & Path with a huge remix from Electronic music legend Adam Freeland, quickly followed his debut album ‘Culmination’ on Griff’s new imprint Corymbia Recordings.
2019 saw a string of releases and remixes for labels Pipe & Pochet, Shango Records, LNDKHN and Sofa Beats, as well as remixing Satin Jackets huge hit Automatic for Eskimo Recordings.
A European tour was booked for 2020 including Boom, Noisily and Vibronica festivals, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation. This led to some serious studio time culminating in his second album due in December on Beat & Path.

Seaside Trip pres. to you »the untold stories of the sinking sea!« - this mixture is the eighth story in 2020 and number 130, which is told to us by https://soundcloud.com/y_e_m .

I don't even know when exactly I heard a mix from him for the first time. It must have been 3 or even 4 years ago, it was https://soundcloud.com/ldsroom 's channel and I was impressed by his Shift II mix. I lost sight of him and didn't look for him either - too many fish swim in the ocean and the captain likes to lose his leg or even one or the other artist out of sight. Well, once again I was browsing through LDS's history and heard YEM's mix sets "cruel" and "Timberland" 3 or 2 years ago and was thrilled again. I don't know exactly what it is, but YEM grabs me with the way he sets up the mix sets. Anyway, A lot of water flowed into the sea and it took another 2 years before we got together ... For many is a 4 hours set a lot of time, for others it is a short introduction to their music collection.

YEM's words for you:
I'm just a man who likes listening and collecting music in his mixes.
This time i went back in to the tunes of past few years and compilated a set of  those that are still Music to my ears. Suspect that this type of flow was considered to be called "Deep". So let us try to dive back and reminisce how it sounded. Most of the tracks should be recognizable, but since it turned out that I was the person who pressed the buttons and twisted the knobs while recording, some stylistic interference may be noticed. Hope somebody will find this journey interesting. But that's really not important as much as people's health and peaceful living around our planet.
