Radio Slave & Dustin Zahn team up as Radio Zahn for ‘Berlin Sessions Vol. 1’. Joining forces for the first time, Radio Slave and Dustin Zahn launch their collaborative works as Radio Zahn with a set of colourful, groove-laden techno tracks inspired by the sound of mid-90s New York on Rekids this May. Across all three mixes of ‘Twilo’ and ‘Power Muzik’, the duo deploy chunky, hard-hitting drums alongside building arrangements and masterful use of synths and dubbed-out FX, with the former featuring vocals by Toy Tonics member Kosmo Klint. A dream for fans of intricate, dancefloor-friendly techno, the release showcases why Radio Slave and Dustin Zahn are two of the most consistently exciting artist in dance music.

Responsible for some of the most recognisable tracks in the genre, including ‘Grindhouse’, ‘Don’t Stop No Sleep’, ‘Another Club’, and other timeless cuts, Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards’ work with Joel Martin as Quiet Village and solo work as Rekids has received critical acclaim, and he remains one of the most in-demand and consistent remixers around. 

Since the late ’90s, Zahn’s hypnotic and driving techno has consistently caught the ears of top DJs and labels worldwide, best exemplified at his legendary marathon sets at Berghain. His vitalwork with Intellephunk includes the nearly two decades long running Communion after-hours events, cementing his invaluable contributions to the Minneapolis techno scene and beyond.

Following outings on Slump, Hâws & Schimmer, mpeg makes his Semi-Delicious bow with an all killer, no filler collection of acidic tinged, progressive bombs.The release kicks off with the hypnotic ‘I Do Me’. The track rolls effortlessly into a crescendo of synthetic stabs, panning acid and a throbbing bass fit for Goa. Starting off with a bang, we roll into the breakbeat inflected ‘Kotanyi’. We’re treated to more psychedelic, progressive goodness with a slightly more brooding tone. Subtle keys lighten the track’s final stanza giving it serious sunrise set potential.

B1 gives us the colourful ‘Thanks For Calling’. Swirling bleeps and descending acid lines contrast the records balearic sensibilities setting the tone nicely for the Ice Cream side of Semi Delicious’ 13th outing. ‘You Do You’ brings with it broken beats, a top line akin to golden era Italian house and more citrus-y undertones that characterise the record. ‘Shapeshifter’ wraps up the affair with a bang employing an almost speed garage-esque low end below the psychedelic symphony of extraterrestrial sonics dancing above

The bracelet became the subject of not only interest and lust, but also of concern, and was the topic of ethical and safety debates.

If you're looking for a slice of vinyl which will lift your spirit, fill your soul and put a smile on your face, then please introduce yourself to the latest EP from St. David, namely his "Essential Grooves EP", courtesy of the formidable Chiwax label. Written back in 2022, the four tracks here showcase the breezy dancefloor vibes that St. David brings, with all the cool Italian swagger you should expect from the Theory Of Swing main-man. 

So let's get into the EP; on the A-side we are greeted with “The Groove Goes On“, which is best described as “slinky“ House music at its finest. The bassline is one that the finest funk jam would be proud of, here it's layered with neat percussive elements and lively keys and synths, interwoven for a deeply enriching dancefloor experience. 

The A2 jam, “Summer Nights Fall“, also has an extremely tidy bassline, this time a more 80s-sounding affair, and as with the A1, the warmth floods out of the speakers, with delayed keys and little riffs coming in and out of the groove, percussive knocks panning to add space and a xylophone-esque riff as the track motors along. Both tracks on the A-side are winners, oozing class and depth, these could (and should) be dancefloor staples for all House-heads this summer. 

Flipping the wax over and things head into Fred P/Zepherin Saint territory on "Tech-no Peace“. Off-beat percussion gives a marching style to the rhythm, while the floating spaced-out synths are held together with a wriggling acid line, low-resonating pads also weaving their magic. The Acid line opens and closes, giving way to panned delayed FX, working back up to a superb break, after which it's all-systems-go. This is a truly excellent piece of pure-dancefloor-driven music and worth the price of purchase alone. Bravo!! 

To close the EP, the vibe slips back to that of the A-side, with a gentler, live-keys led groover, namely "Touch Of Jazz“, featuring the silky playing of WB. The bassline here is set back into the track, allowing the flow and rhythm of the keys to be the main focus which, as with the A-side cuts, gives the track a gorgeous vibe, leaving you feeling uplifted and buzzing once the vinyl has reached its closing runout crackles. 

This is, without doubt, a wonderful and timeless 12", one which any half decent DJ or House music fan simply must check out and add to their collection.
