Hisham Zahran has been a long-time friend of the Bespoke Musik family with an intelligent aesthetic and approach to quality electronic music that has constantly evolved over the years. His latest mix is no exception, containing a fantastic blend of forward-thinking vibes.

With a focus on deep, melodic, and ethereal dance music, Hisham Zahran has steadily gained recognition within the dance music community thanks to his wildly popular online mixes. His monthly radio show, The Next Level on Proton Radio, has been a source for fresh and forward-thinking tunes for over a decade.  He holds residencies at Nacelle House Sessions, the wickedly popular underground party in Cairo, Egypt, and Bespoke Musik in New York.

I’m super happy to share this special recording with you guys from what was not only my first time playing stereo, but was one of the most treasured musical moments of my journey so far. 

Being invited by one of my best mates to bring in the new year together in this temple of music and dance was something I’ll never forget. The energy in the room that night was so special. We were surrounded by many of our best friends, some family and the most dedicated Montreal music community as well as some friends and dancers who had travelled from the US and other parts of Canada to be there with us. 

I opened things up before Mik (Kora) took over for another 4 hours or so and then we finished things b2b for another 4 hours. 

After countless nights/days at our studio playing together with a small group of close friends, it was something we had dreamt of doing at Stereo and somehow even though the club was sold out, it still felt like an extension of those intimate experiences. Where it feels like connecting authentically to the music and to each other is not just a celebration or a party, but collective therapy. United energy, everyone channeling their joy and their pain, their love and their gratitude through the music. There are few places where this still feels possible and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play there and do it alongside someone that has become like family to me.

I hope you enjoy it and cary a glimpse of that energy with you 🙏🏼

In 2013 Daniel Bortz released his debut album 'Patchwork Memories', an 11-track selection of deep cuts bleeding with melancholy, black keys and nostalgia. Bortz's laser-precision production skills were in full flight here, and his ability to use very little elements to fill out each track is the work of a serious professional. The album was filled with the sort of low-slung house which could easily double up as a downtempo soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon. Look into his back catalogue you will find that his debut album was no anomaly: his discography is loaded with brooding melodies and infectious rhythms. As you can expect, he follows the same route in the club where Bortz tend to favour the cuts which make you feel as much as dance. Of late, the German has been injecting a darker sound into his DJ sets which might come as a surprise to those who know him for his 'deep house', but Perlon is one of his favourite labels, and that influence is definitely starting to become more relevant in his productions. (This should come as no surprise, the back catalogue of his Pastamusik imprint is loaded with his appreciation for the microhouse/minimal techno label) On the verge of an Australian tour (dates at bottom of article), Bortz has delivered the next Balance Selections podcast. It's safe to say that you are in good hands...
