Monkey Puzzle are a 6-piece live band who play psychedelic instrumental electronica. Combining drums, bass, guitar, violin, clarinet, percussion,and samples, most of which are played through a variety of effects, Monkey Puzzle weave a rich sonic tapestry which combines the sound of electronica with the organic energy of live acoustica. Their sound is a diverse and oceanic journey, blending extensive ambient chillout sections with swells of pulsing trance and surges of all-out tribal rhythmic smash.
Monkey Puzzle are fascinated by the natural world and its manifold forms, and its influence is never far from their music. The subject matter of their music so far includes ambergreiss, sloths, geometry, microcosmic moss worlds and the elusive elephant bird.

Musical comparisons to Monkey Puzzle include Ott, Massive Attack, The Prodigy and even Tool. and whilst Monkey Puzzle do not sound exactly like any of these, in all cases they are certainly flattered that the comparison has been made...

Featuring members of Backyard Rhythm Orchestra, Dub Tek, Book Of Silence and O.P.E.N., Monkey Puzzle are a curious mutant hybrid never considered for mass production. Too weird to live, too rare to die; make sure you witness this unique musical event.

Plus there is a very strong folk element to it, which makes it just that much more intriguing and a bit poetic, whilst never losing its energy. James Brute biography


James Brute is the alter ego of James Steel, songwriter and frontman of 2000s East London darlings, The Brute Chorus. Since the release of Bury Yourself—his debut solo single in 2014—his musical tales of love, loss, and lust have ventured into ever darker and more mysterious waters. The warp and weft of his songwriting speak to our basest human instincts, weaving together themes and characters that are at once ancient and modern, arcane and mundane.
In 2025 he began playing some of the most intimate shows of his career: unaccompanied, often completely unplugged, standing alone in the middle of a room among those who had gathered to listen. Stripped of all adornment, his songs emerged raw and unguarded - sung out, slung out and strung out for all to hear. And in that vulnerability, a new path began to emerge, the darkness pricked with the light of hope.
