3 QUESTIONS to JOYCE MUNIZ:

Q: Let's talk about your mix and your roots. How did you find your way to Eelectronic Music and what do the tracks in your mix mean to you today?

A: My interest in Electronic Music was actually sparked by MTV. Back in the mid-1990s, MTV was really cool and had great music from artists like Massive Attack, Björk, Aphex Twin, Roni Size, Rage Against The Machine and many more. So music was very important to me from an early age and I heard my way through different genres. At the age of 15 I got interested in parties and raves because all my cousins ​​were older and always told great stories. I was really upset that I wasn't allowed to come with them, but when I turned 16, my mom finally allowed me to go with them. My first rave was a drum & bass / jungle party in what was then known as the Artwork Club in Vienna. It was a cool underground location on the fourth floor of a warehouse. Since that night my life has changed completely. I thought everything was mega, the sound, the bass in my stomach, the energy from the DJs and the people around me, the flickering light. I didn't know any of the numbers the DJs played and still found them so cool that I bought their mixtapes and listened to them all the time. [...] And the mix for HOW I MET THE BASS brings me back to that time, how flashed I was from the bass, what a great time it was. Good memories!

Q: Corona took us all off the grid in March 2020. It's been over a year since then in which we all try to stay afloat. How did you experience the time
and can use it for you?

A: It was a shock at the beginning, of course. But I was able to focus on other things very quickly and spend more time in the studio or develop new projects together with Radio FM4. I've been resident there for a long time and finally had more time to take part in other shows like FM4 Unlimited. I wanted to do professional speaker training through my radio shows for a long time, but the time was never there because of my old lifestyle. Now I'm actually in the second semester and it's a lot of fun! I also spent a lot of time with my family, we have grown apart a lot in recent years and it was important and also a good time to deal with such things. In terms of finance, it is of course a difficult thing, but the crisis made me realize that I can do a lot more than produce my club tracks and play in clubs on weekends. I reinvented myself and today I make music for commercials, films and various art projects. These are things that I have never done before. I was always very much oriented towards music for the clubs, but this way new doors have opened and I am very grateful for that. Still, I can't wait to go on tour again, be around people, play music, travel and visit my friends and family in Brazil again allowed to.

Q: The last time you had a new release on Exploited was "Crystalline". What are you currently working on and what can we expect from you in 2021?

A: Exactly, “Crystalline” came out on Exploited in early February and this track means a lot to me because that was the first tune I made during the first lockdown. I am very happy that “Crystalline” has made so many friends. As I said, I worked a lot in the studio, last week my remix for the great Bossa Nova star Bebel Gilberto came out on Pias. I also made a remix for the talented singer and songwriter from Berlin, Joplyn. In August, dear producer Alinka and I will be collaborating on Permanent Vacation. There should also be another EP on Pets Recordings. But my most important project for 2021 is to finish producing my second album! I'm in the middle of it right now and that takes a lot of time and patience, because this album should tell my musical career and it will be a fine mixture of different tempos and styles. Some cool features will also be there. I'm really looking forward to it when it's finished.

Ein Gig auf dem Fusion Festival ist für mich immer etwas ganz Besonderes. Die Menge an Floors und Stages sorgt dafür, dass man als Gast super schnell die Area wechseln kann, falls einem der Sound mal nicht so gefällt. Dir als DJ sollte dann auch klar werden, was es bedeutet, wenn du nach den ersten 2-3 Platten mal vorsichtig den Kopf hebst und einen vollen grinsenden Floor erblickst, obwohl die meisten vorher noch nie etwas von dir gehört haben. In Clubs oder auf kleineren Open Airs ist daran kaum zu denken. Ich freue mich über jedes Set das ich dort spielen darf und drope hier den aktuellen Mitschnitt für Euch :) House Music will never die!

Ich habe die Jungs von HS12 tatsächlich in meinem Plattenladen Sihl Records kennen gelernt als interessierte, neue, junge Digger. Ihr hattet musikalisch einen ähnlichen Geschmack wie ich unter meinem Alias Andreas Ramos und so etwas verbindet halt ziemlich schnell. So gab es einige Vibe-Momente hier im Shop bis ich dann das erste Mal im Kornhaus für euch spielen durfte. Dann gabs noch weitere Gigs bei euch unter anderem auch die legendäre Outdoor-Party am Loorenchopf, der die gemeinsamen Vibes nochmals untermalt hat. Bei HS12 denke ich auch immer direkt an die Zahl 12, da es seit eh und je meine Glückszahl ist.

I actually got to know the guys from HS12 as interested, new, young diggers in my record store Sihl Records in Zürich. Musically they had a taste similar to my  DJ alias Andreas Ramos and something like that connects pretty quickly. So there were some vibe moments here in the shop until I was allowed to play for you guys for the first time at Kornhaus in Winterthur. Then there were other gigs with you, including the legendary outdoor party at Loorenchopf, which once again underlined the common vibes between us. When I think of HS12, I always think directly of the number 12, because it has always been my lucky number and still is.
