Hailing from East London in the Eastern Cape, Umgido are leaders in a new age Gqom sound. This unique sound blends Gqom melodies with classic notes of electro house and has fast piqued interest far beyond the borders of South Africa.

In 2016 DJ Athie began focussing on music full time and moved to Cape Town to attend the Bridges Academy where he graduated with their inaugural intake.

DJ Athie is a resident on 5fm’s weekly #GqomFridays where he introduces the freshest new discoveries through his mandate of sourcing all of the show's features.

With an extensive resume of productions and collaborations including Moonchild, Das Kapital, DJ Tira and Busiswa and the freshly released Masheleni (Vth Season) Umgido are focussed on releasing a string of new material through 2020.

In 2021 Athie will travel the world and continue to establish themselves and their sound on the global scene.
