The release of Crosstown Rebels’ SPIRITS compilation is always a bastion moment for the label. The first edition came to prominence in 2017 and we’ve been graced with an annual compilation ever since, showcasing a consistent habit to champion established artists and breakthrough ones alike. Now, Crosstown Rebels’ lauded SPIRITS series will see the light of day once more in June, with the release of SPIRITS V.

“Compiling the Spirits compilations and sourcing the artists that create the artwork for the sleeves is one of my favourite annual jobs for Crosstown. I get to sift through all the best music being sent to me and find a way to make a cohesive one stop shop full of underground battle weapons and future club hits whilst also setting the tone for the sound of the label in any given year. NYC-native Layla Benitez leads proceedings with Fides, a progressive leaning, introspective number that retains an inherent danceability throughout. It kicks off the compilation with a driving energy, one that’s perfectly matched by Trabajar - the Crosstown Rebels debut of recent Hot Creations inductee Mr.Diamond. 

A techy-inspired cut, punchy four-four drum patterns create a distinctive late-night feel, as UK-talent Denney soon arrives with Kill The Soundboy. Showcasing the groove-laced house sound with which he’s become best known, the near seven-minute piece is sure to light up many a club setting this year, paving the way for Talk To Me. It’s a collaborative venture between Munich-based artist ASK:ME and El Muerto, with Soulfoot featuring on vocals. Retaining a vintage Detroit style, the fast-paced tempo creates a natural excitement before Romanian-born mainstay GruuvElement’s gifts us the minimal-toned Boom Room.

Building with tribal-like percussion and salsa-inspired instrumentals, it’s a playful excursion into dance music’s outer realms, paving the way for young Peruvian producer Chinonegro with My Moment. Whether it be the pluck of a guitar string or a jazzy trumpet solo, there’s an inherent authenticity to the six-minute piece, as a mid track breakdown gives way to whispering hats and a rhythmic underlying backbone.

The penultimate offering comes from French-born, London-based regular Maglia, who serves up the shamanic Rayiys. The chirping of birds reside atop an ever-changing bassline, leaving us open and ready for the VA’s closing saga: Thanks Moon, by Spain’s I AM JAS. A heady combination of beautiful lyrical contributions combine with softly moving electronic elements, to leave us in a state of calm, inward reflection. Rounding off proceedings on a note of quietude, it reminds us of the final moments in clubland, transporting our psyche to sunrise, fond memories and everything in between.

Over a period of nineteen years, Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels has evolved into a world-renowned institution, garnering global audiences thanks to a consistent schedule of quality releases. In years since it’s earliest beginnings, the likes of Maceo Plex, Art Department, Seth Troxler, Ali Love, Mathew Jonson, Pier Bucci, Acid Pauli, Dennis Kurtel, Francesca Lombardo, Glimpse, Aphrohead, Fur Coat and a plethora of other figureheads have all found their home on the label.

The roster is international, showcasing how Crosstown has shaped a truly global scene. Releases are born in different continents by artists who hail from different countries, resulting in a sound that resonates worldwide. Perhaps most-pivotal to the label’s success is its musical output: no part is governed by boundary or genre. It’s underpinned by a truly eclectic sound, one that reflects the diversity of Damian’s love for music itself. An album from drum and bass icon DJ Krust here, a maiden LP from Audiojack there... traversing genres has been Damian’s forte for decades - and Crosstown epitomises that as a result.

A career spent DJing across the globe was the catalyst for Damian Lazarus’s latest project – Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons. Masterminded by Lazarus the album brings together a wide assortment of vocalists, collaborators and players from around the world. Taking inspiration from Lazarus's Lazpod series, Get Lost events and Day Zero festival in Mexico, this is music for deserts, jungles and sunrises.

Kicking off in LA, Lazarus was joined at the production controls by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence) as the album moved to London, and then final recording sessions completed in Mexico.

The resulting album, ‘Message From the Other Side’, is a revelation. It runs the gamut from the wonderful Qawwali-flavoured techno of the single ‘Lovers Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)’ to the African-tinged house of ‘Sacred Dance of the Demon’ to the dense dark ambient of ‘Inner Core’, and a whole lot else. It’s a truly original piece of music from a DJ-producer always driven by a desire to break new ground and, as importantly, have fun with such adventures

Jonas Rathsman announces his latest offering with cutting-edge innovators Crosstown Rebels. ‘Complex’ featuring Josef Salvat is released on 10th June 2016.

This is a tech-blues odyssey, an introverts primal scream, where complex emotions and urges are vented and perfectly complemented by Rathsman’s explorations into the dark corners of electronic music. Enjoy the journey. With the release only in the hands of a select few tastemaker DJs, ‘Complex’ has been making waves at the recent Miami Winter Music Conference, “receiving hands in the air welcomes and even a sit down ovation” according to label boss Damian Lazarus. ‘Complex’ is set to be the first underground anthem of 2016.

The release comes with two carefully chosen remixes. First up is Swiss techno stalwart Deetron, who steers the song into percussive acid oblivion while Serge Devant offers up his deep house expertise for a dramatic and driving offbeat cut.

With his instantly recognisable sound, Jonas has found praise the world over for his keen ear and transcendent sets, which have captivated listeners on both the international club and festival scenes.

Following his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, Rathsman continues to showcase his technical capabilities and impressive track selection with his bi-monthly mix series ‘ELEMENTS’, now on its fourth instalment.

Gab Rhome launches his own label in an effort to simplify the process of releasing music, thus returning creative flexibility and freedom to the productions themselves. Rendez-vous is a personal pursuit, coming at a stage of reimagination for Rhome. Launching in collaboration with his debut live set, RDV will simply be a place for Gab's art in its purest form.

The Changing Lanes EP leads the charge, with two tracks rooted in Gab Rhome's journey in dance music thus far. Harnessing a career's worth of world influences, RDV 001 is the start of a new story.

After All That pays tribute to the classic Gab Rhome groove - a housey beat overlays soothing vocals, reigning in the ropes for the b-side. A charming melody brings light to a tune driven by a sad and reflective message, with Gab himself providing the vocal chops.

"The pace of the vocal in After All That is inspired by RnB, soul music and general warmth. In fact, it's a bit of a contradiction to In The Rain There's No Lane." It's a tune for the calmer moments, with a groove that allows thoughts to flow freely. "The goal was to go for the cream on top of an espresso: packed with flavor, comforting, and a goosebump-based cure for a sleepy soul."

@crosstownrebels welcome Tochno Techno label owner @yulianikomusic to release her first full EP, ​Paradise, ​a captivating three track EP featuring jazz bossanova vocalist @silromero and Italian talent @cioz on remix duty. The aptly named ​Es Vedra c​ an be heard as a digital bonus track.

Opening track ​"Caminando" e​ncapsulates Yulia’s inspiration from walking on the White Isle of Ibiza where she spent the last year living. The hypnotising deep house melody of swirly synth pads and Sil Romero’s beautiful dreamy vocals wash over skipping percussion in an emotive composition. Niko described how the track came together - “​I sent demos to my friend and great jazz Bossanova singer Sil Romero and told her about my emotions after Ibiza. She also loves the island and goes there every year. The words "Caminado" are from Spanish - walking around, and she says ”I feel good​!”. Cioz ​puts his own melodic stamp on the remix, creating a progressive club piece with bright keys over a reshaped bass line.
