Perhaps a new name to these pages, but not a stranger to the scene, Copenhagen-based producer Kasper Bjørke has released music and remixes on Kompakt, Bella Union, Ghostly International, Longform Editions, Wolf + Lamb, and many others, along with projects for Prada, Nike, and Bang & Olufsen. He’s got more than just a few recognitions among music journalists (including a spot on The Guardian’s best contemporary albums) and has toured the world with his DJ sets as a solo performer and one-half of Filur (with Tomas Barfod). All that is great, but what about the music, Mike? Intricately produced with plenty of ambient and cinematic tendencies, the all-immersive experience of his new album Mother is a tribute to our home planet, which has given birth to humankind. And while we often get caught up in our self-created bullshit, we seem to miss the point of this brief encounter with our existence, which, in just another moment relative to the universal time, is poof! … and gone. All this, from birth (the first 20+ minute track is titled “Formation”) to death (the last is titled “Requiem”) is captured on this 100-minute album, gently guiding you through all the motions we’re destined to experience. “Other artists have tackled song cycles that parallel a day, a year, or even a lifetime. Mother spans a timeframe from 4.5 billion years ago up to humankind’s impending demise. It hints at how that may be sooner than we think, as well as the earth’s resilience, and the promise of another chapter.” For its conclusion, and for the track which I am happy to premiere for you today, Bjørke partners up with Danish singers Josephine Philip and Hannah Schneider, who steer our final transition with spatial and ethereal vocals, which beautifully occupy the dreaded void found in between the pensive piano chords, deep bass, and the dissolving theme. It’s really a beautiful piece of music, which I am sure that you will love from your very first play.

Lexika is a soundtrack to an imagined sci-fi movie set in deep space. It started with an image of a completely silent explosion in space. From that image I created a narrative of sorts, where a story unfolded as I set out to create the music that would become Lexika. With Lexika I’ve tried to step outside of myself and look at life, the universe, and our fragile existence from another vantage point. The themes of the album – grief, sorrow, hope, perseverance – are themes I come back to repeatedly though. This time they’re just framed in a slightly bigger picture.

When I close my eyes and listen, I see supermassive black holes. I see the Oort cloud, asteroids hurtling through endless black, the Andromeda galaxy, a radiant supernova, the redshift at the end of the universe. I see the endless vastness of space, I see Voyager II leaving our solar system and I see Mercury as a tiny dot in front of our sun. I see a story that unfolds forwards and backwards simultaneously through time where we – humanity – are both part of it and not. How, from the cosmic perspective, mankind’s existence is so brief that you’d miss it if you blink. And how that also makes it so precious.

It is very different from what I am working on but, somehow, it holds my essence, and it makes me feel well. Instead of letting it disappear along with many other pieces that I never share with others, I have decided to publish it in celebration of #pianoday2018. I hope you enjoy it.

I have to admit, Joachim Spieth was not a name that I instantly recognized. Most of his recent full-length albums and EPs, including the one I am covering right now, were put out on his very own German Affin label [and its subsidiary, Affin LTD]. But listening further, and digging some more, I began to recognize the ethereal aesthetic, the ebb and flow, and the atmospheric textures that felt slightly familiar. It is only after reviewing his discography further that I realized that Spieth has appeared on numerous Total and Pop Ambient installments curated by Wolfgang Voigt for Kompakt. Following a glimpse of his individual contributions, I returned to this long-player, again and again, traversing its slow-stretching arc through the warm-filtered spectrum. His third album, Ousia, is a follow-up to his 2020 Tides, continuing the journey through dreamlike environments, deep and calm, wide and open, like a limitless ocean spreading into the outer and infinite, distant and unknown. Even this morning, as my anxiety fed by the unknown is making itself felt in my chest, neck, and shoulders, the gentle and soothing sounds of “Jiwa” spread through my mind and remind me to simply step back, take a breath, and put things in context. Here we are.  For another short day. For another brief moment. And as I gather this time to reflect on what it truly means to be here and now, I hope that this music connects you with me, and with Joachim, in the dispatch of sonic transmission.

"[OUSIA] creates imaginary spaces, translates ephemeral impressions, and condenses them into cinematic soundscapes. The eight pieces illustrate an intense and emotional journey that creates expressive relationships between external and internal perceptions."

The album is out in January 2021, on a 2×12″ vinyl, with a special edition featuring a booklet of photographs by Spieth. Recommended for fans of introspective, oceanic, and tidal ambiance, from the likes of Markus Guentner, Brock Van Wey, and Marsen Jules.

As said by the so missed Juno Plus: “The middle ground between US and European electronic music is where the work of Hiver exists”. Echoing hypnotic melodies and haunting rhythms have given form to Hiver's sound. 
They've been defining their aesthetic path, driven by melodic and distant elements slowly evolving in a mould of linear rhythms. Their debut Ep “A Day”, on Vidab Records has been followed by the highly acclaimed “Blue Aconite” Ep, released via Curle Recordings and including a Tobias remix.  
Thanks to this release, Hiver’s name started to be reckon worldwide. Clubs and festival promoters has soon started taking note of their works, as testified by their shows at Panoramabar, Dimensions Festival, Polifonic, ADE, Oval Space,Tresor and tours in Asia, US, South America. 

Based in Milan, they have been playing at the infamous Dude Club as resident and in the meantime, other labels and producers started approaching Hiver with collaboration offers. 
Since then they have issued several releases on the likes of  Curle, Luke Hess’s Deeplabs, Kann, Appian Sounds, Fides, LET Amsterdami and Taped Artifact. In 2019 Peggy Gou featured an Hiver’s track for her compilation on !K7. In 2021 the duo makes a comeback with releases on Polifonic's new label and Sungate Records.
2022 "Wave Sliding" EP on Peggy Gou's GUDU label, a record that both marks and celebrates Hiver’s 10 years of operation. 

Few words regarding their DJ sets..
''Why stick to one genre? We play from house to techno with everything in between. we select for the room, crowd, club, set time and other artist on the bill'' Hiver says..
They are know to be able to deliver an uptempo techno set to an eclectic mellow-vibe.
