We Want The Funk (Jake Wallace Edit)

HLWA — pronounced ‘hallway’ — is an electronic music duo formed by Jake Wallace and Joey Karz. Blending elements of disco, funk, and pop into modern dance music, HLWA’s sound feels nostalgic yet contemporary. Trained in classical composition and music production, the two met while studying at the University of Michigan and gained recognition for their pop-up events in unexpected spaces, ranging from apartment rooftops to the Huron Riverside, and even the first-ever show inside Ann Arbor’s legendary Joe’s Pizza.

On stage, they combine Ableton sequencing and live looping with acoustic instrumentation, performing a variety of reimagined popular covers along with original music. With new music on the way, HLWA is gearing up for upcoming performances in NYC, LA, and Chicago, as well as their anticipated return to Joe’s Pizza.
