Avi Snow, Tamir Regev & No/Me team up for ‘Metaphysical’ with KONG. on Bedouin’s Human By Default this August.

New York-based producer Tamir Regev has worked on various projects and under several aliases throughout the past decade, producing for other people as well as solo. Multi-instrumentalist, writer, and producer Avi Snow is one of his frequent collaborators and is a master of indie-pop grooves. Also involved in this release is No/Me, a singer-songwriter, and KONG.

The majestic title track opens up with a spine-tingling excursion filled with hypnotic percussion, gorgeous acoustic strings, and a tender and soft vocal. It's a rich track that makes an impression well beyond the dance floor. Tamir Regev then goes solo for 'The Old Days', an exquisitely enchanting sound with subtlety rousing vocals and a gentle smattering of organic hits and chords.

Damian Lazarus invites Meera to Rebellion as she makes her debut on the label with the release  her two-track EP, ‘Telefon’.  

Influenced by producers with unorthodox approaches such as Burial and J Dilla, blossoming Norwegian DJ/ producer Meera may be young in her career, but she is already capturing the attention of some of the scene’s  biggest names. Following the release of her debut single ‘Music For Humans’, supported by both Black Coffee and  Damian Lazarus, who she recently joined at Hï in Ibiza at the start of August, she now heads to Crosstown Rebels’  sister imprint Rebellion for the very first time as she unveils two fresh productions across ‘Telefon’. 

“‘Telefon’ started as me procrastinating on another track, but grew into its own thing throughout the day  and was a finished track by the second day. The entire process is kind of a blur, everything just came  together. ‘Slowdown’ was my first attempt at using my own vocals on a track, as well as something more  melodic and dreamy rather than a ‘club banger’. The track was very inspired by the vibe of a certain  Burning Man set.” - Meera. 

Armed with brooding basslines beneath sweeping synths and rumbling percussion, ‘Telefon’ balances  commanding core elements with sprinklings of light, hazy and wistful melodies for a hypnotic cut loaded with  suspense and energy - all while stuttered vocals exploring the frustrations of being disconnected to others ebb  and flow amongst the mix. In contrast, ‘Slowdown’ is more off-kilter initially, with Meera’s own vocals again guiding  the scattered bass hits before slowly transitioning into a resonant production guided by airy, emotive keys and  bright leads.

‘Never Wanted To Be’ is a collaboration between multi-genre artists atsou, Umami and Djupa Hav, featuring three tracks demonstrating the wealth of experience between these artists. Madorasindahouse’s atsou, who has played a significant role in the Afro House genre for the past few years, makes his debut on the label alongside the rock, jazz and electronic-influenced duo Umami, who have seen their previous releases on Human by Default getting critical acclaim by DJs and dance floors around the world. And tagging along are Djupa Hav, with their first-time contribution to the label, who provided the vocals and lyrics for the songs. 

Another diverse tracklist handpicked by the Bedouin pair, each offering features the ethereal beats and sweeping acoustic soundscapes which have made the Human By Default trademark. Title-track ‘Never Wanted To Be’ combines a mysterious vocal, a pulsing bassline, and laid-back, rhythmic drum work. ‘Water’ follows suit amongst shifting percussive layers, a sung arpeggio and ghostly synths. Then with its dub version, ‘Serial Offender’ moves through a mesh of strung, organic melodies, delicate bass pads and sleek production.

Capoon serves up an excellent solo eﬀort while linking with Angelos as he returns to Crosstown Rebels sub-label, Rebellion.

Antwerp-based Capoon has been crafting material that fuses rich organic sounds with oriental and worldwide influences for years now. Always looking for new inspiration via diverse collaborations with musicians around the globe, he has landed on labels like Human by Default, Einmusika, Mobilee, ZAMNA and more. Here, he returns to Rebellion and links with the co-founder of Global Fantasy, Greek DJ/producer Angelos, with the bubbling talent landing fresh from another stellar Ibiza residency at Blue Marlin across the summer. He has hosted and played alongside the world’s finest DJs, including Black Coﬀee, Keinemusik, Culoe De Song, Hyenah and many more, while releasing on the likes of Saved Records, Higher Ground and Connected.

Together, the pair cook up the spine-tingling deep delights of ‘Mazali’ featuring Kawtar Sadik, harnessing soulful vocals delivered in a heart-aching style over rolling, crisp beats. The majestic synths bring the track to life with real warmth and colour and ensure dancefloors will fall into hypnosis.

Capoon’s solo cut ‘Ubwoko’ is a vibrant Afrohouse anthem with spiritual synths and a careful smattering of organic percussion. The wispy pads lead you late into the night as enchanting chords and strings further cast their spell.

AMÉMÉ is on a fine run of form right now and comes off the back of his superbly received ‘Like That’ single alongside Baron (FR) on this, his One Tribe Records imprint. In 2020, he dropped ‘Patchido’, a percussive Afro-house anthem featuring vocals from Don Bello Ni that proved an early high point upon its 2020 release. Now, ‘Patchido’ gets a welcome rerelease alongside three fresh remixes for 2023 from AMÉMÉ, Enoo Napa and Nhii. AMÉMÉ kicks off the EP with his rework, bringing the horn motif to the forefront of the mix to transform the tranquil original into a peak-time selection. Piano chords and a bumping bassline add further power to the mix, while Bon Dello Ni’s vocals are processed and looped to build into a high-energy drop. South Africa’s Enoo Napa is next with a more paired-back remix. A menacing synth bass drives the track forward while ominous strings oscillate in the background. Choral and vocal atmospherics swell and fade, making for an evolving, tense techno journey across the track’s seven-plus minutes. US-based Nhii closes out the remixes via a spacious chugging rework of the original, with a worming acid lead that slithers around the drums and vocal. As the track progresses, the soundscape is filled with rising arps and processed vocal cuts before falling away for a breathtaking kick drop, creating a moment destined to stick in dancers' minds.
