The 46th edition of Juicebox Radio welcomes - Jesse Pollocks aka Kyotto. A Producer, DJ, Pianist and a promoter in the industry, Kyotto is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka and has been consistent with amazing releases on imprints such as 3rd Avenue, PHW Elements, Soundteller, Mango Alley, Visceral, etc. which have been gaining support from names like DJ Ruby and Nick Warren. His "I Am Back" EP on Nikko Z's label "Dopamine White" showed melodic flair and caught Mixmag Asia's attention, which was premiered with a well esteemed article via their platform. We're excited to have Kyotto on Juicebox Radio with an exclusive one hour mix. Enjoy!

Sabo's record label Sol Selectas welcomes a dramatic Afro house EP from Safar (FR).

Safar (FR) is a French artist with African roots and his music blends his multicultural background to create organic tracks with flowing percussion. Blending the electronic sounds of his European upbringing with the tribal rhythms of Africa, Safar (FR)'s music has been featured on influential record labels such as Deep Root Tribe, MoBlack Records and Moon Black Records.

This is Safar (FR)'s third time working with Sol Selectas after he previously featured a track on the label's Summer Sol VII compilation and also remixed a track by ARKADYAN.

"The Lost Tribe" builds tension with rising pads underpinned by vibrant percussion sequenced into its a stomping groove with free-flowing elements. Tribal chants add to the ceremonial vibe that's augmented with spiralling synths to create an energetic groove that's full of tantalising suspense.

"Memelles" powerful vocals and pulsating synths that are cut by heavy percussion to create a jerking groove with Afro flavour. Powerful offbeat rhythms and spine-tingling synths combine with poignant piano melodies on this dance floor focused track that has a cinematic sound with epic atmosphere.

The cover by Helia Jamali portrays the lost tribe portal as they are entering new dimensions.

‘Deep End’, Pandhora’s first 2024 release, maintains representative characteristics of their music: moments of calm preceding deep drops, dreamy keyboards, subtle progressions, and immersive sonic atmospheres. But, what else is behind this track?

The sonic impact of ‘Deep End’ is, in essence, a clear invitation to the dancefloor and to disconnect from the superficial aspects that can become visible in clubs and festivals. Although we may be surrounded by hundreds of people at times, we can feel alone, disconnected, and at times, dissociate.

Dealing with uncomfortable emotions is achievable through excitement and reconnecting with what we truly love: calm amidst chaos, love, harmony, and meaningful connections through music.

‘Deep End’ is inspired by those performances when connecting with music is not the focal point. Instead, music becomes another embellishment tainted by modern humanity, drug consumption, glamor, luxury, and the heavy use of cell phones. When family and friends are far away, and when home feels farther than ever, these situations can take their toll on artists.

While it might seem the inspiration for ‘Deep End’ arises from sheer criticism, it is merely a reminder to have a good time without disconnecting from what truly matters in life, going back to the essentials.

Making her label debut, Amonita joins the Proportion roster with her beautiful “Riviera”. Describing herself as “a dreamy fairy, DJ and musician”, the best-selling Organic House artist is an ever-evolving force where “beauty, harmony and aesthetics” are found throughout her music. A regular on such celebrated imprints as All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep and Shanti Radio, “Riviera” is redolent in a beautiful and ethereal narrative that glistens through Amonita’s use of live acoustic instruments and synthesiser melodies. Easily developing over its 7-minute timeframe, a swathe of cascading melodies and counterpoint motifs create a stunning sonic smorgasbord as a whispering vocal adds a layer of magical intrigue. Backed by a deep kick, smooth sub-bass and body-shaking percussive groove of hats and shakers, Amonita’s “Riviera” is a joy to behold.

First up on remix duties, Michael Coninx is a hugely influential figure within the underground house and techno fraternity. Under his Hermanez production soubriquet, the Belgian artist has consistently found himself at the upper echelons of the Progressive, Deep and Organic House charts with a string of hits dating back to a 2009 debut on Edu Imbernon’s Eklektisch. 15 years and almost 500 production credits later, Hermanez has graced such leading imprints as Christian Smith’s Tronic, Guy J’s Lost & Found, John Digweed’s Bedrock Records and his own Mooizo, with a trademark sound supported by a DJ glitterati that includes Luciano, Loco Dice and Reboot. Another Proportion debutant, the Hermanez remix is a glorious groove-laden affair that makes elegant use of the melodic foundations of “Riviera” while combining them with a panoply of additional production material that showcases the Belgian’s unique sound. Analogue and modular arps plus melodies with huge reverb tails glide across the 7-minute piece with additional bleeps and stereo-panned effects.

The final remix sees Ranta take centre stage. An artist with a strong identity, his use of “organic instruments and Slavic melodies” creates a “story of vivid impressions to immerse the listener in a special atmosphere”. With such a powerful sonic vision, it is little wonder the Russian producer has featured on a plethora of blue-chip Organic House imprints since an early-2021 debut on RYNTH. Since then, a century of production credits have found their way onto the likes of WAYU Records, Plaisirs Sonores, Journey of the Soul and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, supported by such leading lights as Sebastien Leger, Tim Green, Roy Rosenfeld and Amonita herself. A third Proportion debutant now sees Ranta deliver a beautifully crafted interpretation that takes Amonita’s original and transforms it into a powerful club-friendly affair. Making intelligent use of Riviera’s melodic sweep and breathy vocal stanzas, Ranta takes elements central to the original and creates a pulsating remix that revels in a growling bassline sequence and chunky rhythmic foundation.

Tom Trago is back, giddily dancing out of the studio into the dizzying light of a European summer. Tucked under his arm are the masters for his third album, The Light Fantastic.

Since his most recent appearance on Rush Hour last autumn, Trago has spent most of his time in the studio. Over four memorable months, he constantly jammed, recorded, tweaked and produced tracks, until he had enough strong material to put together what might just be his best full-length to date. 

Along the way, he was joined by an impressive guest list of guests and collaborators from Amsterdam and beyond, all of who were roped in after “popping into the studio to hang out”. 

You’ll have to wait to hear the album, but the good news is that there’s an enticing teaser of what’s to come in the shape of this formidable three-track taster. One of the tracks, the chiming, loose-limbed, bass-heavy workout “Avenido”, is exclusive to this 12”.

When he sat down to make The Light Fantastic, Trago was keen to recapture the essence of his early work, and particularly the melodic warmth, kaleidoscopic chords and robust grooves that characterized his 2009 debut album, Voyage Direct. This time, though, he wanted to rely less on samples and apply the lessons learnt from four years of largely acclaimed production work. As a result, The Light Fantastic oozes a gleeful sense of fun, whilst retaining the depth and definition that has always been a hallmark of Trago’s work.

The two album tracks featured on this sampler confirm the rich dividends that this new approach brought. “True Friends”, featuring the combined talents of Brit-in-Amsterdam Ben Westbeech and local hero San Proper, bristles with loved-up positivity, all bubbling electronic melodies, fuzzy vocoder vocals and jaunty, bottom-end bounce.

Then there’s the small matter of “Two Together”, an extra large helping of the kind of loopy, feel-good deep house funk with which he made his name. Expertly teased, tweaked and produced, it sees nagging hooks, darting synths, jazz keys and disco stabs riding a relentless, full-throttle groove. Co-produced with Berlin-based Dutch producer Steffi, it’s nothing less than a wide-eyed late night rush. If it doesn’t have you tripping The Light Fantastic, nothing will.
