Returning to Exploited for another bite of the cherry, Italian duo gizA djs are back.
‘Something Cool’ blends elements of indie dance and nu disco in its loose, warm
feel, with a dash of Italo disco attitude to boot. ‘80s synth pulses set the tone over
live percussion and subtle bass, before a sultry male vocal adds more retro feel to
the proceedings. Classic disco hi-hats drop in as the vocal switches from English to
seductive Italian and big synth chords filter into focus. A sweet arpeggiated lead line
thrusts into play as a Daft Punk-esque electric bassline funks away below. An
unexpectedly wonky breakdown builds tension, setting us up for a colourful finale
where the key elements morph and modulate in a beautiful fusion.
‘Rogue One’ is more of a brooding, atmospheric house affair, but one that comes
with dashes of funk. Tribal percussion intersperses a turgid bass groove as mystical
trumpet loops tease in and out of the mix. A discofied guitar lick bolsters an
infectious, mysterious plucked melody, and imperceptibly the track builds intensity to
a crescendo with eerie pads, heady reverbs, ride cymbals, urgent vocal chants and
judicious use of FX.

Damian Lazarus curates the third SOULS compilation on Crosstown Rebels’ sibling label Rebellion. Comprised of four tracks, transcending electronica, tech house and progressive house, Rebellion presents SOULS Vol.3 features the production talents of Airrica, Lorenzo De Blanck, Capoon and Bartolomeo.

Rising star Airrica opens the V/A with the playful Defect. Blending bleeps and rapid-fire claps with a warbling synthline and alien-like vocals, it’s a bouncy number that’s perfect for a peak-time dancefloor. Italian DJ and producer Lorenzo De Blanck whips up the pace with Addiction. Tight kickdrums and a trumpet-led melody wind through the track, building an instant mood-lifter. On Emma, Belgian talent Capoon offers a slow-buring, more ambient piece. Ethereal vocals glide
through the soundscape before a huge synthline swoops in and switches up the vibe. Bartolomeo completes the V/A with Isla Del Rosario, a funky track brimming with organic percussion and complimented by a Spanish vocal that dominates the track. Cinematic chords add a hypnotic feel, evolving into a cosmic, club-driven cut.

US-born Airrica cut her teeth into DJing in Tulum, finessing her skills as a selector and crafting a sound of her own from the booth. From Mexico to The White Isle, she has gone on to support Artbat, Damian Lazurus,  me and many more. In the studio, she produces lush and loud house music, stitching rumbling basslines between hypnotic grooves. Italian DJ, producer and vinyl head Lorenzo De Blanck has made his mark on the global electronic scene with several releases on Moon Harbour, Hottrax and Saved Records, among others. Remixes for Virginia Lazzarini, Detlef and Ohm Guru feature in his back catalogue. Antwerp-based Capoon draws inspiration from emotion rather than function, making music with a palpable mood and story-telling aesthetic. Releases on Human By Default, MoBlack Records and more display his thoughtful approach. Engineer and tour manager for label-head Damian Lazarus, Italian artist Bartolomeo is a classically trained musician with a meticulous attention to detail that is evident across his electronic material. Minimal and deep house tracks feature in his discography, with appearances across Hot Creations’ Hot Waves, Crosstown Rebels, Claque Musique and more, as well as via his own imprint BAR Musica.

As part of the 20th-anniversary celebrations of Get Physical Music, the label is to reissue Roland Clark's stone-cold classic 'I Get Deep' in the form of the original acapella and two new remixes. One comes from Rework and one from Roland Leesker, whose version is also included in the full and upcoming '20 x Get Physical' compilation.

Clark's original from the year 2000 is one of house music's most iconic tracks; an anthem that is adored by fans across the world for its irresistible groove and almost spiritual vocal charm. Remixing it is a huge task but one that German pair Rework are more than up to. Michael Kuebler and Daniel Varga are scene mainstays with 20 years of experience behind them and credits on the likes of Visionquest, Playhouse and their own Exlove label. Their ‘Rework Anyway Remix’ is filled with squelchy synths, trippy FX and a driving groove. The vocal is teased out and redeployed in freaky fashion as the taught bass and disco-fired stabs keep things moving in an electric fashion.

Then comes a truly standout remix from Get Physical Music main man, Roland Leesker. His small but well-formed discography is packed with timeless house music and he has also put together the forthcoming '20 x Get Physical' compilation with his usual aplomb. This remix finds him on a tech house tip, with textured drums and smart filters building tension throughout what is a drawn-out and captivating track. The vocal remains iconic but the mood is more intense and the synths more dramatic. This is a monster remix that is sure to be setting dance floors alight for months to come.

Last of all is Clark's original acapella which remains as spine-tingling and potent as ever. These are two timely and tasteful updates of a much-loved slice of deep house music.
