I circle the lake at a relaxed pace, my pauses blending into the soft, powdery drifts. It's the paceful beginnings of a beautiful day, and the music in the background only hightens the experience."

Aspetuck (@aspetuck) is a Vermont-raised electronic music producer based in the Hudson Valley. His sound merges analog and digital processing, drawing from ambient, techno, IDM, dub, and kraut. Using modular synthesis, he crafts intricate percussive sequences and melodies. He shares his work through DJing, live performances, and radio shows on The Lot Radio. Co-founder of Never Late (@never-late) with Gilles and Hue from Delayed, Aspetuck has built a diverse catalog, including self-released albums and records on labels like Oslated and Wex Recordings. His Mind Wandering EP (Telomere, 2022) and albums Early Color and Inanimate Distraction Object (2022, 2023) highlight his evolving sound. In 2025, he returns to Oslated for Today Is Tomorrow and has upcoming vinyl releases with A Strangely Isolated Place, with more projects on the way.

Basel’s Timnah joins our series with a long-anticipated recording from last year’s inaugural pe:rsona, an intimate gathering from the minds at Positive Education. Over the years Timnah has established a reputation for expansive and visionary selections without equal, lending her voice to the beloved Amentia and A Walking Contradiction collectives and leading audiences into captivating unknowns worldwide. Recorded live in the French countryside at the peak of summer, Timnah’s set smolders with delicate tension, lacing outward like tendrils upon shattering glass. The next Deep Mind Music comes from one of my dearest friends, and greatest inspirations - hems

hems and I have a special connection, we both love to adventure through musical lands strange and beguiling, evocative and unusual, and have spent many hours together digging through obscure backcatalogs or making our own noises experimenting with hems’ many synthesisers in his studio in London 🧡

hems plays music like no one else I know, he has a magic touch and deep sensitivity for representing all shades of human existence. From the sublime to the transcendent, the unsettling to the hilarious, hems’ sets takes listeners to the beyond and then further still.

I first invited hems to make a mix many years ago, so I am very happy to finally welcome an entry from him. This recording is the first 2.5 hours of an all-night 8 hour set hems played at an intimate private gathering in Mexico City in March of this year.

In this recording hems coaxes us to drift inwards, to enter into an unusual landscape, to open up to all the elements of sound, contrasting pre-Hispanic music with vintage synthesizer tracks and much more.  

Listening to hems’ sets over the years has expanded my mind towards new possibilities, his selections and genius touch for programming evoking many deep epiphanies and insights. This mix is brimming with vitality and life, I hope you enjoy this kaleidoscopic voyage into the mystical 🌿 ~

hems ~ Deep Mind Music Vol.33

Amsterdam’s Ratherlost crew has spent the past few years perfecting the art of the marathon rave. Their home base is Lofi, a cavernous warehouse where sound, light, and visuals fuse into long-haul journeys that stretch well past the 18-hour mark. But epic runtimes mean nothing without the right hands at the controls, and Ratherlost has proven it knows how to curate, pace, and execute like pros.

Lofi’s two-floor setup allows for shifting moods: daylight hours wander through deep, dubby techno, slowly morphing into faster, syncopated rhythms as night tightens its grip. Pacing is everything in a space like this. And when it comes to the craft of pacing, few do it better than Bas Dobbelaer.

Bas is one of our favorite DJs for a reason. He understands that a warm-up set is an architecture rather than just background noise. It shapes the room, sets the tone, and welcomes dancers into the story. The mix we’re thrilled to share today was recorded live at Ratherlost’s Easter Sunday session at Lofi, where Bas shared the bill with artists like Aaron J, Na Nich & Vera Logdanidi, Aurora Halal, DVS1, upsammy, Occa, Agonis, Dasha Rush, Seb H, and Oscar Mulero. Quite the roster.

In the face of that stacked lineup, Bas delivered a masterclass in restraint and elegance. His three-hour set unfolds like a novel, tracing dub techno’s DNA across the past two decades. The vibe is timeless, spacious, and beautifully measured, a perfect example of how to warm up a warehouse without blowing the doors off too soon.
This is precisely the kind of DJing we live for: subtle yet commanding, hypnotic yet full of life. Clear your next 180 minutes. Plug in. And get a little Ratherlost yourself.

"This No Way Back stream was the first time I’ve performed a set from my home studio. When I was first planning this set, before the pandemic really hit hard, I had kind of a different idea in mind. I was planning something more sample-driven, less melodic. And although I would’ve deeply preferred to be in Detroit for No Way Back in-person under normal circumstances, the fact that I ended up performing from my studio meant I had all of my synthesizers there to use, including the larger ones that I don’t normally have in my live rig like the Prophet-6. I decided to take advantage of that, and the resulting set took kind of a different turn. This set includes some of the music that’s coming out later this year on my album with Mysteries of the Deep. I hope you enjoy."
