Vertige II is the second compilation to be released on Abîme, gathering tracks from ten artists to explore the Vertige concept with a wider spectrum of intents.  

It features contributions from musicians all around the globe, each of them delivering an interpretation of this ambivalent sensation that could be equally seen as a positive or negative feeling if taken in its plurality of meanings.

Ranging from GIL’ dizzying textures in ‘Storm Petrel’ to the sweetness of Fauness’ guitars in ‘Am I ready’, Vertige II finds its coherence when seen as a progression, a back and forth between fear and love, with each track responding to the previous one by being its deforming mirror.

Vertige II puts the emphasis on vocal tracks, but again doesn’t limit itself to a one-sided approach, and that’s how Lil Asaf’s harsh Jordanian rap can be found coexisting with Flagalova’ anthemic pop and Ptwiggs’ shoegaze ‘Forever is not enough’. 

As the successor of our first compilation, this record can be seen as both a continuation and a rupture in comparison with it. The delicate sound palette of the original opus has exploded and expanded into an ecletic collection of pieces, sometimes frightening and overwhelming, and sometimes soothing and reassuring, as is the Vertige.

Blown by the Wind is a project that highlights the voices of the Global URL Nation community, and the textures that can be created from them. The voices mingle and intertwine until a soundscape shimmering compilation is woven.

It was a project in two phases. The first one consisted in the creation of a common pack of vocal samples - anyone from the GUN community could contribute with what they already had, or could create something specifically for the project.

In the second phase, artists from GUN could propose a track using this sample pack. The idea was to consider voices as key instruments, with the possibility of shaping, distorting and transforming them at will to create new textures.

Mun Sing’s forthcoming ‘Frolic’ EP adopts the drama and intricacy of his productions to create a surreal, demented fairytale. In this world, fun and indulgence come at a price; a shadow of consequence is embodied in the form of a sinister blue faced scarecrow. He is a boogeyman of sorts, akin to the beasts scaring children into good-behaviour in bed time stories, but now finding his form in adulthood. The Scarecrow reminds us that everything comes at a price, and punishes those that have too much fun. He is the embodied voice of guilt after you choose one more drink, one more episode. He lays dormant, silently watching until it’s time to strike. Can we ever really escape this lurking figure? In the times we have succeeded, how long does it last?



‘Frolic’ follows a narrative that begins with indulgence and moves through to consequence; starting with euphoric melodies and big room drops ('Frolic', 'Didn’t Need U Anyway') and ending in moments of unravelling reflection ('Scrolling', 'The Hypocrite'). The Scarecrow reveals himself for the first time during the breakdown of the EP’s centrepiece ‘Somersault’; a theatrical club epic in which the scarecrow cackles the lines “You plead a pregnant passage yet frolic and frot without consequence!?” summarising the spirit of the EP succinctly. 



The concept of indulgence has fuelled the composition of ‘Frolic’ as a whole, where Mun Sing would lean into singalong melodies and satisfying drops using a more inclusive musical language in favour of the grief-inspired awkwardness of last years debut album ‘Inflatable Gravestone’ (Planet Mu). ‘Frolic’ is inspired by big stadium pop concerts for its large-scale storytelling and pantomime-esque audience participation. After years of navigating loss and spirituality, Mun Sing found the natural next step to be writing music which explores the dialogue of joy and escapism.

The Shapeshift Spaceship universe is transfuturistic. Being at the boundary of states is not an anomaly in this universe, but a starting point.

Shapeshifting is a method of applied radical imagination that, in the manner of afro- and other emancipatory -futurisms, uses the spatiotemporal immensity of the future and intergalactic distances to declare a transfuturistic universe free from conventional gender and taxonomic reasoning.

The central motif of the Shapeshift Spaceship project – emancipation through the transformation of one's own shape – has an age-old parallel in music: it too uses the principle of constant ephemeral change, rhythmed by repetition, to create its own elusively passing beauty with the extraordinary capacity to transform human emotions along with its own change. The possible maximum of this intoxication with music is a state of ecstatic rapture, a transformation directly experienced through the moving body, accompanied with the awareness of the expanded nature of existence as an indivisible continuum of all its interconnected parts.
