We have been wanting to bring Serbian DJ/Producer Boris Mijolic aka Mass Digital onboard for a while now. Hailing from Serbia, Boris grew up gaining inspiration from music from a very early age. Exploring his father's tapes and later vinyl, he has always believed in the power of melodies. This clearly reflects in his productions, which are some of the best in the vast world of Organic House.

Experimenting with soft piano, pads and strings and infusing them with a perfectly crafted melody, Boris has been able to create some magical tracks which have found home on renowned record labels like Kindisch, All Day I Dream, Hoomidas, Sol Selectas to name a few. His music has been a staple in the sets of stalwarts like Above & Beyond, Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo and many more. This month Boris joins our little Distant Grooves family with a beautifully crafted guestmix.

This is a live recording from the first ever Seladoria in USA, in Denver 10th June 2023 for Whirling Dervish. Steve Parry opened up the Warehouse space, and slowly set the groove, and this is the first hour of that set.

HAFT, the Iranian duo of Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb, are known for fusing hypnotic synths, deep- rooted pads, and intricate percussion into a sound that bridges traditional textures with modern progressive house. Their debut three-track EP on Balance Music delivers a journey filled with psychedelic undercurrents and shimmering atmospheres that is crafted equally for the dance floor and for deep listening.

The brooding ‘Driftor’ is designed to nudge any DJ set in the right direction. An off-beat bass drives the engine, allowing you to comfortably sit in the pocket of its inviting narrative. Steely drums and percussion form a cohesive frame, while a bag of tasteful effects, samples, and stabs fill the remaining spaces. Once the breakdown hits, in all its subtlety, you know you’re in the hands of professionals. This is essential prog, designed for any occasion.

There is an undercurrent of psychedelia running through ‘Myntal’, hypnotic and consuming. Low- end frequencies double as notes, merging with the bass to create a dizzying effect. Its main-room identity, however, is confirmed by drums that strut forward with propulsive energy. It all points towards a seductive breakdown, its layering teasing a drop that confirms it: this is designed for floors ready to ignite.

Filled with depth, ‘Prism’ shimmers and shakes as synths and stabs perpetually morph. The result is a continuous stream of sonic moments to lose yourself in. Thankfully, the dense bassline and drums bring you back from the edge of hypnosis, filling the space with an elastic energy as buoyant as a trampoline. Then comes the breakdown: bells dissolve into minor-key haze, half beautiful, half surreal: an inviting dream-logic that is hard to deny.

Hailing from the Netherlands, Navar's teenage years were spent as a studio junky, building a relationship with music through an array of equipment where he developed the hallmark of his analogue/digital sound.

Never one to stick to a particular stylistic blueprint, Navar effortlessly melds elements of minimal, techno, progressive and electronica. He has continually impressed since a debut on Klopfgeist imprint in 2010, building a highly impressive discography of productions for Lost & Found, microCastle, Body Condition, Moral Fiber and Proton. His music routinely earns the praise of Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Guy Mantzur, Sasha, Nick Warren, Laurent Garnier, Henry Saiz, Lee Van Dowski, Rodriguez Jr, Maceo Plex, Jeremy Olander, Sasse, Oliver Schories and a host of other respected industry figures.

Electronic music luminaries Hernan Cattaneo, Chaim, 16 Bit Lolitas and YokoO chose to remix the Dutch artist's creations, all of which received critical and commercial acclaim. Always looking to further his creative avenues, Navar collaborates with like minded musicians when the synergy is right, a three track EP (courtesy microCastle) with fellow Dutch artists Mononoid reached #1 in both Electronica and Progressive House on Beatport, while a much anticipated EP with Israeli artist Sahar Z is due for release on Guy J's Lost & Found Records this summer.

Being locked away in the studio in the early days, have led him to heights that he never could have imagined at the time. Navar set out to carve his own unique path in the world of electronic music.

Inspiration for the Dutch artist comes from many facets and moments in life, as he describes “The inspiration comes from the escape I create when I make music. Every project is a new journey and doors to different sonic avenues open with each one. I step away from reality and enter a world of imagination, surrealism and forgotten dreams". It's no accident that Navar's contemporaries remark on the soulful qualities in his music. His inner feelings have helped create a uniquely deep and recognizable sound, as he states “My music is a reflection of my feelings, it comes from a genuine place that I want people to connect with. I feel comfortable expressing myself through music and I hope people can relate to that”.

Navar's emotive creations have already cast lasting memories for electronic music fans across the globe. As he goes forward in his journey through sound his passion continues to grow and there's no telling how far his creative talents will reach.

Inspired by rock music from the 70s and 80s played by his father and later the compilations of Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren and Tiësto; Navar set out to carve his own unique path in the world of electronic music.
