After the response from her more downtempo track for our Free Download series we thought it only right to follow up with Xiaolin for a mix for our InSessions series. The Hong Kong native is well-versed in all manner of electronic music spheres, but her penchant lies at the rawer, bleepy end of house music and minimal. As well as these serious club sounds, Xiaolin is also a fine purveyor of more traditional sounds and is a regular face on the Canto Pop scene. 

Recorded live at Mihn Club in Hong Kong, Xiaolin takes control of the atmospheric nightspot from the very beginning of this episode of our mix series. Stripping the action back to the fundamental elements, she injects power moves after power moves into the dancefloor as if priming for tracks that are yet to be introduced. Her unhurried, methodical touch speaks volumes as the next groove and bassline comes thudding into view. While the poppier side of her sound is more carefree, Xiaolin’s mix for our podcast series offers freedom of mind as well as of body.

Tomoki Tamura’s essential and refreshing label, Holic Trax collects together new house heat for a third
volume of it irregular Tom Tam Club series. Across both a digital and 2 x 12” vinyl release the compilation
offers plenty of club-ready highlights.
Having released music from producers around the world including Rick Wade, Burnski, Tuccillo and many
more, the label has become a favourite with DJs and dancers alike. Now it turns to a mix of new and more
established names for a collection of eight new cuts that offer something for everyone.
Up first is duo, Rough Principles, made up of established producers Ekkohaus & Moire Patterns of labels
like Moon Harbour. Their ‘Pool Back’ is a rubbery, spritely house track with rolling beats and bass and
thick, late night synths that exude real soul.
Grecian Mr. Statik - a big name in his native country as both a DJ resident and producer on BPitch Control
- then gets a little freaky on his ‘Habitual Nastiness.’ There is plenty of slap funk in his drums and intrigue
in his mysterious melodies. It is then to Moon Harbour mainstay and Italian tech king Marco Faraone for
‘Point,’ which is a stripped back, grainy and lo-fi basement house offering with dubby chords and a real
sense of rawness to it.
UK producer and Needwant associate Ashworth keeps things scintillatingly melodic with his spine
tinglingly eerie and spacious minimal track ‘Copenhagen’ before fellow Englishman Brunbjrn gets all stab
happy with the loose limbed, perfectly DIY sounding and ramshackle house grooves of his effusive
‘M'about Ta’.
Dubinsky, who has released on Foals man Ed Congrave’s Deep Shit label prefers a more mid tempo and
airy vibe. His exquisitely jazzy, sun kissed and playful ‘Viol Groove’ is a perfect piece of feel good house
music at its best, then Leftback label boss Dudley Strangeways does his trademark trippy, minimal house
thing on ‘Brown Leaves’, which is a heady, hypnotic and late night track designed for the small hours.
Finally, Baslow’s ‘Closer’ rounds out this excellently varied compilation with a lush broken beat, classic
vocal sample and some truly romantic emotions.
This compilation goes from sun kissed to sweaty and back again, and proves that label boss Tomoki
Tamura really has his finger on the pulse when it comes to enlisting standout producers from across the
world scene.

One thing is for sure: life is thriving in Toronto's undegrounds, with bright sparks of creativity coming from Edan's studio. Beside managing Microforum Vinyl Pressing’s production and quality control with over 15K records per day, Edan finds time to dig through records. Here's a carefully selected selection he put together as he took over the Strangers In The Night series. Expect an eclectic ride, rich textured as well as stripped down to its bare essentials, from progressive to minimal house and touching everything between. Enjoy it as much as we did!

We went 7 hours b2b from 4am till 11 am :) My longest set ever in a club. 
What you hear was from 5am till 6.30 am.
I went more deep, obscure and drivin' on this one. Personally vibes that i started to experience and learn more by going often to Georgia. Felt so good to deliver in such an institution!

Sohrab Karimi aka Ahu https://soundcloud.com/ahu_sohrab is a producer born in Tehran, Iran, living in Berlin nowadays. Ahu is one of the few artists who prefer to adopt low profile, with little to almost no information about him, beside his music.

Ahu’s signature sound is almost impossible to capture into words: introspective blue, sometimes with a Giegling feeling, other times with deep & dubby references to the minimal house scene, yet always authentic and promiscuous.

Little do we know about https://soundcloud.com/shahr-farang nor https://soundcloud.com/kolonygorky, Ahu’s record labels and homes for much of his releases. The labels reflect his vision about the electronic music, with ambient soundscapes, experimental concepts and sometimes dancefloor oriented cuts.

Somewhere in 2017 Ahu accepted our invitation to contribute to the Introspections series with a mix built with his own productions. To this date, it remanis one of the most beautiful mixes we’ve ever hosted.

That's how long it can take when you want to avoid haste making waste. After a seven-year hiatus Sonar Kollektiv finally releases the third edition of the 2007 installed compilation series “Computer Incarnations For World Peace”. The first two, celebrated episodes had been co-selected by Gerd Janson (Running Back). Now Sonar Kollektiv's A&R manager and Jazzanova DJ Alex Barck takes care of business all on his own, picking thirteen songs out off his immense record collection – which in this order and combination unquestionably live up to the high expectations towards the third part of “Computer Incarnations For World Peace” and beyond.

To start things off we get one of Barck's undisputed favorites, “Caught” from 1986 by Tokyo born singer Anna Domino. And not only this song but all of the following twelve tracks have a strong atmospheric and sonic connection to the eponymous classic by Jean-Luc Ponty (“Computer Incantations For World Peace”). For example, “Night Flight” by German sound engineer and producer Walter Quintus is excellent feelgood jazz funk from the late eighties as well as the cosmic synth monster “Swiftness” by Georges Rodi and Dave Sarkys from 1979. For quite some time now “Airport Of Love” by French studio project Love International is an integral part of any DJ set that ranges somewhere between Balearic and Cosmic. Not assignable to any genre though is Brenda & The Beach Balls' “Theme From A Tall Dark Stranger” off their first EP from 1986. But that's exactly what sets “Computer Incarnations For World Peace” apart from other compilation series: A complexity of all different styles, musical eras and connections to a whole lot of scenes, but – if played in the right order – has a well-knit common thread and takes us on a journey through space and time. A trip with a quick detour to Japan and its quite flourishing Minimal Music scene in the early 80's (Mkwaju Ensemble), but always returns to good old Germany. For example with “Sol Y Sombra” by Amanita from 1978, or Obalki's “Lobos Point”, which came out last year on Public Possession, as well as “Bewegliche Ziele” by Plaza Hotel featuring Jaki Liebezeit on drums; a track acknowledged with a wonderful reissue on Notes On A Journey. And finally we also get a little glimpse of the future via “Altona” by the Tuff City Kids. This is one of the tracks, that could be on the long awaited debut album by the long enduring remix project by Gerd Janson and Philipp Lauer to be released on Permanent Vacation. And when Barck pays tribute to his former compilation ally he's also allowed to throw one of his own tracks into the mix. 

One of the first tracks by Jazzanova, “Introspection” still sounds surprisingly fresh and scrupulous timeless to this day. 

One can almost claim that it was a good thing that Barck (and Sonar Kollektiv) took his time and now can proudly serve us his best matured and well-tested gems out of his collection. Bottoms up!
