Keep Running - Holly Williams

I wrote this song in a moment of self reflection - realizing how truly broken I was, and how even through all that I have a God that will never abandon me.
It's important to face burnout with the mindset of yes, it's good to be helpful towards others, but you can't fill someone up if your cup is empty. It's ok to rest, you don't always have to be the “strong one”. 
The line “Never learn to fight, you're too brave” is very special to my heart- there may be times when we feel the temptation to lash out at others or even within ourselves and if we're ‘brave enough’ to take that risk, we will probably end up hurting more than helping in the moment. It's better to not even learn to fight (or practice it at all) to begin with.
With that being said, keep pressing forward and don't give up. Move at your own pace and everything will be ok. God will never lead you in the wrong direction, and He will NEVER abandon you.

This song is truly just a prayer of desperation, written to God in a time where I was running to Him out of complete necessity. A time - like many others - when I was humbled, brought to my knees and realized "wow I'm genuinely not able to do anything apart from Christ..."
The book of Ecclesiastes talks about how this life is complete vain and all of it, no matter how hard we try to keep it, will eventually fade. The things around us are so worthless and yet those are the things we always grab onto.
I find myself trying to fill the emptiness in my heart with anything and everything except for Jesus and then wondering why I don't feel satisfied with anything this world has to offer... but then I always remember there is Something even BETTER. Something (really Someone) eternally and abundantly fulfilling.
If nothing else let this just serve as a reminder to >> turn your eyes to Jesus <<< and stop running to everything but Him. We can't do anything on our own, we have no power on our own, no authority over the enemy... we can only expect to win this battle with the Lord on our side. He is here to fight for you and you CAN have victory through Him every day. <3

...and then they won the battle... prayer, supplication, and worship being their only weapon.

What is our fighting stance? What reason do we worship? Is it because what God has given? What Jesus has done?
Yes, we worship Him for those things, but "what He has given or done" is never the driving factor.
In the Old Testament, all fell to chaos because Israel, God's chosen nation, turned away from the LORD, the God of their ancestors. When they surrendered and humbled themselves yet again, He provided victory.
Could it be that what He brings is the main reason we are so quick to turn to Him? Yes, a difficult heart check, but we must not attempt to determine the character of God Almighty by His actions. He created good, therefore He determines what "good" is.

Bottom line is that He deserves everything we have to offer, even though nothing could measure up. We dare not turn our face toward Him, but He calls us His own sons and daughters. An unfair trade. One that stirs us to overflowing worship through any battle we face. We are required and CREATED to worship.

We call on the Lord in times of trouble. We earnestly supplicate for mercy. We remind Him of His promises. We cling to Him desperately. We long and strive to bring Him pleasure. We live for Him willingly and die for Him joyfully.
